Wrap Cardigan + November Update | On the Daily EXPRESS

Wrap Cardigan + November Update

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving! I don't know how many people will be reading blogs today since I'm sure many are traveling or visiting with family or starting their food prep, but I'm staying local with no extended family in town, so it will be a pretty quiet holiday for my family of four. That means I still have some time to blog, so I'm staying on track with my regularly schedule Monthly Update for the last Wednesday of the month. I'll be answering any of these prompt questions that apply to me, starting with what I'm wearing. With the weather finally cooling down a little here, I'm reaching for my leggings again for everyday casual wear, and I'm always on the lookout for pieces like this cardigan that are long enough to keep me respectably covered.
You saw a preview of this outfit last week in my latest Amazon Try On Session, and I didn't waste any time wearing it in real life. Since I'm always hugging my cardigans around my body to stay warm, I loved that this completely wrapped in front and it stays closed nicely. Partly due to the tie of the belt, and also partly due to the texture of the cardigan. It is very soft and not scratchy or itchy at all, but I have another wrap cardigan that falls open a lot, and I think this one stays put better because the textured fabric can "grab" on itself. I'm also a fan of any type of top/jacket/cardigan with interesting collar details, so I liked how this one draped like a shawl at the top. It almost looks like it could have a hood, but it's not a hood - just a collar. I'm wearing an XS in this but this brand does tend to run a little on the smaller side, so if you're debating between sizes, go with the larger of two.

Well, nothing else new or noteworthy to tell you about this outfit, so let's move on with the update!

Here are the rest of the What's Up Wednesday prompts I'm answering this month!

What I'm eating: When I saw we had some rain and cooler weather headed our way, I bought a few different kinds of soup to have on hand for lunch. My standout favorite so far is this Campbell's Roasted Red Pepper & Smoked Gouda Bisque Soup:

I bought mine at Target but I'm sure most any grocery store that carries Campbell's soup will have it. It was with the canned soup, not the refrigerated soups.

I also tried this Good & Gather Tomato Basil Pasta Salad at Target and like it a lot too:
It's really flavorful, though it's more of a side dish, so I still need some protein to go along with it for lunch.

What I'm loving: Golf weather! I don't golf, but my husband does and my boys are learning. I like going with them to the range when they hit practice balls just to sit outside and read a book with gorgeous scenery and weather. I have thought about taking up golf to participate with them, but I'm still totally intimidated by that idea. I've never been good at sports that require hand-eye coordination (I have tried tennis and softball!), so I just don't know if I am up for starting from scratch again on a very frustrating journey. If any of you golf I'd love to hear how you got into it, whether you were already sporty, and how long it took you to become un-terrible! Haha!

What I'm working on: The "Touch it Once" organizational/tidying up method for both domestic matters as well as work and blog tasks. The basic idea of this method is that for any task you start (or item you touch), you see it through to completion before touching something else. So if you go to the mailbox and get the mail, instead of tossing it into a pile in the kitchen you immediately deal with each item, rather than saving it for later. I read about this years ago and started implementing it right away with little household tasks, but only recently did I read about doing it for other projects and it really clicked with me. I have noticed that I tend to switch-task a lot. So if I'm writing a blog post, I might write a few sentences, then go check my email, then turn over a load of laundry, take out the trash, etc. before coming back to write a few more sentences. It makes me feel like I'm always busy but not always getting a lot checked off my to do list! So I'm trying to just "touch it once" - to a certain extent. With a blog post I can't finish it all in one sitting due to time constraints, but when I sit down to blog, I do make a certain goal of finishing a certain segment or part of a post (e.g. edit photos or write an intro) before moving on to anything else.

What I'm excited about: Having a few days off of work and the regular routine for Thanksgiving to just relax and spend time with the family without feeling rushed from one thing to the next!

What I'm watching: I need to watch the finale of DWTS from my DVR! Hopefully I'll get to that tonight. I already know who won since it's impossible to avoid spoilers these days and I'm not thrilled with the winner at all, but I still enjoy watching the full routines.

What I'm Reading: Allen Eskens latest, Nothing More Dangerous. I'm just getting started with it but it did start out strong so I'm happy about that. My favorite of his is The Life We Bury, and if you haven't read that one yet, you definitely should!

What I'm listening to: I'm almost done with Ask Again, Yes on Audible and really enjoying this one. It's two-family saga with lives that intertwine in interesting and complex ways.

What I'm doing this weekend: Ooh...that really depends on the weather! We had talked about doing some outdoor adventure staycation activities, but if it's now supposed to be cold and rainy so that's not going to happen. I do think we'll put up our tree and probably do a little online shopping to take advantage of Black Friday sales for some holiday shopping (and gifts to self! Ha!).

What I'm looking forward to next month: My dinner with Noelle is coming right up, and I'm looking forward to getting together and talking shop with her. I'm also looking forward to getting holiday cards from our friends and family! It's always fun to see how everyone's family has grown and changed, and we also have some pretty hilarious friends and relatives who make us laugh with their comical pictures or funny commentary on the year.

What else is new: I have a few new Amazon pieces that didn't arrive in time for me to share them in my latest Amazon Try On Session...and rumor has it they'll be on sale for Black Friday. I'll be sharing those new pieces in my Friday post so I hope you'll stop by and check it out!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and I hope to see you'll stop by and say hi on Friday!

  1. Your outfit looks Thanksgiving perfect...comfy, cozy and all the fall feels. :) As for reading blogs, I wondered the same...how many folks would be reading over the next couple of days. I'm currently visiting at my mom's so I've snuck in time at night and early mornings. Anyhoo, today and tomorrow is all family focus! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Gina! :)

  2. Love your outfit! I listened to Ask Again, Yes on Scribd and it was amazing! It is such a deep story. I need to start the touch it once method. I feel like I "chase rabbits" every time I start something because one thing leads to another and then nothing is complete!

    1. Oh my gosh, that "chasing rabits" phrase is perfect! That's totally me.

  3. Enjoy Thanksgiving and the days off! I feel the same way, getting to be off and staying home for a few days is really my favorite thing. I'm hoping to shop sales from my couch and get our Christmas decorations up. My younger son golfs but no one else does - I like driving the golf cart though! I'm terrible at sports - ha!! Happy Thanksgiving Gina!

  4. That wrap sweater is so good! Such a pretty neutral outfit! I used to love hitting golf balls with my husband to practice but I've only played one game of golf (9 holes) and it's been years. I really need to try the touch it once method. I get distracted and am constantly bouncing between multiple tasks. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. I think this outfit is one of my favorites on you! Enjoy some time off. I am going to have to try that roasted red pepper soup, I just love soup but I don’t usually have luck with Store bought but I trust your taste buds! I hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving sweet friend! xo

    1. Ha, if I were as good a home cook as you I probably wouldn't like store bought either!! If you're a great cook I don't know if you should trust me on this one! LOL!

  6. Love the wrap sweater - so cozy! And I also love golfing weather...because my husband will take my kid with him, they both have a great time, and then I get like 4 hours to myself! :) Alas, it's going to be a long time before we see golf weather around these parts again.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. I'm reading blogs today because I'm Canadian and we celebrated Thanksgiving in October :) And I love that idea of "touch it once." I'm going to have to implement that and see how life improves.

  8. Such a cute cardi! I like the 'touch it once' idea too - i need to try that! I'm always getting distracted by everything going on!

Thank you for the link up!

Hope that your week is going well :)

  10. Gina, I love your cozy outfit! It is perfect for Thanksgiving! I don't know how many people will be reading blogs this week either, but I scheduled posts for every day this week just in case! Wishing you many blessings this Thanksgiving!

  11. Hey, sweet lady! You look adorable! I'm going to have to do food prep when I get off my laptop. Happy Thanksgiving!

  12. I love the wrap cardigan and the suede boots! Perfect fall look. I think you should give golf a try. I was totally intimidated by the game but my husband's entire family plays, so for my 30th birthday my husband thought a golf outing with the whole family would be fun - not exactly when you want to learn (and really play for the first time). But, I actually liked it - and it wasn't as hard as I thought. It is just always watching the ball - and not looking up! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!

  13. Happy Thanksgiving, I used to play tennis and wish I could start playing again.

  14. I turned into a runner by default because I am horrible at anything that involves hand/eye coordination! Gym was my worst class! Haha! I completely understand about trying something new. That soup looks delicious! I need to get some for my pantry!
