Friday Favorites 9/20/19

|
Happy Friday and welcome to another round of Friday Favorites! As usual I've got a random mix of things I'm loving this week, starting with my favorite outfits of the week. And by "favorite" I mean they were decent enough to photograph and share with the public. Let's get to it!

1. Camo Jacket
Camo seems like it's here to stay, doesn't it? I'm sure eventually it will fade a little in popularity, but I am still seeing a lot of it this fall! And since I've already collected a few pieces I'm putting them to use while I can!

My camo jacket is from Express a few years back, and they do have one option right now, but it's a cropped, boxy style and doesn't have a great review. I found two other affordable options from Target and Amazon, though I absolutely love this one from Evereve, but it's a bit of a splurge. Also, I just got these shoes and sizes are already selling out! Ugh, sorry about that! I really do hate it when things sell out before I can even post them. I wanted to replace a pair of round-toe mules I had with a pointed toe style, and these are just what I wanted. I was ready to sing their praises today, but if your size is sold out in this exact pair, this similar style has good reviews and is also under $50.

2. Cabernet Shirtdress
Speaking of things that aren't going anywhere this fall- my dress obsession! Now that I've gone through some trial and error to figure out the types of dresses that work for my lifestyle and body type, I'm slowly building a little collection of favorites.
Dress | Sandals | Necklace | Handbag (c/o)

This Cabernet shirtdress from Express is my latest addition. It doesn't have pockets, but that's about the only thing I would change about it. Then again, I think for this style of dress and material (it's the same material as a Portofino Shirt from Express), the pockets might add some bulge at the place where none of us want any extra bulge, so I can live without them in favor of a sleek line. I had my son snap an iPhone photo on the way out so I could show you the length on this. At my height (5'4") it's just right. For taller ladies I think this might be too short to be work appropriate, depending on your office environment.

3. Favorite Stretch
I've shared this next item a couple of times in the past, but one segment in particular has been on Repeat lately so it's worth mentioning again.

Advanced Lastics is one of my favorite advanced stretching DVDs (all of my favorite Favorite Yoga & Stretching DVDs posted here), but the Neck, Back and Side Stretch segment has become a regular part of my routine lately. The whole workout is a little over an hour long, but that particular segment is just 12 minutes. In my opinion that portion is not an Advanced stretch. Yes, the ladies demonstrating are very flexible but the stretches themselves don't require much flexibility. They just feel great for your neck, back and sides. I've been especially wanting to counteract all the neck and back strain from working at a computer, and this just does the best job out of anything I've found. The instructor gives the best technique pointers! The stretches themselves are pretty simple but when you really incorporate her technical adjustments it makes such a difference. Also, for any new readers you can find all of my past fitness content in my All Things Fitness Reference Post!

4. Shower & Shave
When I put these posts together, I always look around my house or through my recent Amazon orders to see what I use a lot but haven't shared on the blog. This Shower & Shave Cream caught my eye this week!

Although this is called a Cream, I apply it to my regular bath pouf when I'm showering and it lathers up really well on my legs. I'm finding I like that better than regular shave gel since it just seems easier to work with and easier to keep the product on my legs. I cannot say I've tried a lot of other shave creams to compare, but for four bucks I'm happy with this. That said, if you have a shave cream that's the best you've tried, let me know because I'm definitely open to trying others!

5. Flashback Friday
Once again I'm digging through my outfit archives to give myself some easy-to-recreate outfits for the current season with pieces I already own. This really helps me shop my closet when I'm in an outfit slump for whatever reason, and I hope it encourages you to do the same!

My olive tank didn't get much love this summer, and I think it's time I changed that! I think it would be a good "transition" piece for the weather we're having lately, which is best described as "the hottest month of summer" weather. Fall may be on the horizon officially, but it's still too hot for me to even tolerate pants here, so this is a legitimate transition look for me!

Time to join up with ErikaAndrea, and Narci for Friday Favorites!

  1. I wore my camo yesterday and was thinking how much I like my pants and thought they'd maybe work on my trip. But then I read that it is a big no-no to wear camo in Ireland, so...they'll be staying home! I really like your cabernet dress! That is a great style on you and the color is so pretty for fall.I should check out that stretching DVD , that is the one area I really don't put the time into and I need it. I know how important a good stretch is but I never take the time.
    Have a terrific weekend!

  4. I agree - I don't think camo is going anywhere. I thought it would be a passing trend - but it seems to be one that is staying like leopard. We had a bit of cool weather here - but now we are in a heat wave, too! I love that rich burgundy dress. I hope you have a great weekend!
