Navy Blouse + Currently

|
I'm sure I've said this on the blog somewhere before but it's relevant today so I'll say it again: navy blue is my number one color conundrum. I love wearing this color. I think it's classic and flattering on myself and nearly all skintones. I'd actually love to hear from anyone who doesn't find this color flattering on themselves, and please describe your skintone! But despite loving it, it's my toughest color to style! I have an easier time with it in the summer when I'm inclined to wear more white shorts and skirts. I do love a navy + white combo, so that's what I opted for with this blouse!

Thanks to Amazon for providing my blouse and sandals for this post. Thanks to Shopbop for providing my handbag!

If you're thinking it's not realistic to wear long sleeves plus shorts, I will say this is a very lightweight blouse. I wasn't too warm in this when I wore it in the evening to take my kids to some of their lessons. Though for the most part I ended up sitting indoors in A/C, so this was a nice alternative to throwing on a jacket or cardigan over my usual tee or tank. I didn't have to layer and it looked a little nicer than my more casual knitwear. Not that I necessarily needed to be more dressed up, but since I do spend a lot of time in really casual stuff, sometimes it's nice to dress up a little more just because!

This blouse comes in numeric sizing and I'm wearing a 0 here, which I think is equivalent to a size XS in Express or Old Navy blouses. It goes on over the head but it has a button at the back if you want a little more room to take it on and off...or if you did your hair before you got dressed and want to make sure you don't mess it up!

All in all, this is a nice piece! I have just a few pieces from Lark & Ro on Amazon and I think they offer good quality for the price.  The only reason I don't have more is because most of their items tend more towards workwear pieces. Since I work from home I don't need many of those. The prices on this exact top vary depending on the color/print you choose, but it looks like all of them are under $30. I do love the navy color, but I am starting to regret not choosing a different color/print that I can more easily mix/match with my blue or black jeans when fall weather hits. I may end up getting a second one of these because I do love the cut and style. Despite not needing it for an office job, this will be great for wearing to school events (registration day, back to school night, etc.) because it has good coverage and looks more polished than a basic tee, but it isn't too warm to wear in the heat.

It's the first Wednesday of the month so I'm joining Anne for her "Currently" link up. She provides the creative prompts for this, and today's participants are sharing what we're currently ordering, watching, cooking, wondering, and savoring.

Ordering...Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center when it comes out on August 13. This book has been discussed on every book podcast I listen to and I'm ready to read it already. I've enjoyed both books I've read by this author so I'm hoping this will be good too. I also want to order Someone We Know, the latest from Shari La Pena ( author of The Couple Next Door).

Watching...the "Most Hearted Styles" on Shopbop. I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for "Best Seller" and "Most Popular" lists, whether it's on a retailer site or when a blogger shares their most-clicked items. 'Hearting' items on Shopbop is just a way for people to save them to their favorites to come back and consider purchasing. I always have at least a dozen things on my 'Hearts' list on Shopbop...most don't make it to my home but it's still fun to look! Here are some of the most popular 'Hearted' items currently on Shopbop:
ONE:  Isabel Marant Etoile (Alpaca Georgia Pullover)
TWO:  Velvet (Kathy Cashmere Cardigan)
THREE:  Stuart Weitzman (Laney 75 Pumps)
FOUR: Shoshanna (Bosher Dress)
FIVE: Reformation (Flounce Skirt)

I thought it was fun to see what's trending and the mix of summer and fall items right now. Those Stuart Weitzman Snake pumps would definitely get a Heart from me! I love the pointed toe and stacked heel that's not too high. Plus, our weather would allow me to wear those a lot sooner than the alpaca sweater, that's for sure!

Cooking...is not my forté. Ha! I am really not a good cook.

Wondering...if I should do no-shop September again. Despite watching the new fall arrivals, I know I don't need any fall clothes for awhile here. I did it last year and it was a good experience and generally a good time of year to do it. Back to School season keeps me plenty busy so I hardly even have time to shop for myself. It's been on my mind lately so we'll see if I commit!

Savoring...every last day of summer before we go back to school!

That's the latest from here! See you back on Friday!

    1. The problem is that I just don't have enough bottoms in other colors! I do love it with all of those colors though!

  2. I really like navy too but tend to reach for it when I'm wearing other blue tones or prints. Navy and white is so crisp and fresh! Maybe you can challenge yourself to find new ways to style this pretty top. I agree, it's nice to dress up a bit more just because. Yesterday I got all dolled up to go to Dollar Tree - ha!! Ended up being a good thing because we had my mom over for dinner (she is not a fan of my no make up, no hair, shorts and tee look) and then we had to go out unexpectedly to see a friend in the hospital. You never know, right?!

    1. If it's been awhile since I've gotten dressed up I may get dolled up just for the gas station! LOL! Then I'll hit Starbucks or something while I'm at it to make it worth the effort. And yes, I really do want to challenge myself to wear this another way!

    1. Thank you Andrea! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has challenges with navy!

  4. I have almost those same snake pumps but in Marc Fisher. I love the stacked heel. I am impressed by your 'no shop' September. September is probably my favorite month to shop - with all the fall things (probably because it gets cold where I live - and I just love boots and jackets too much). Just yesterday I found like 10 jackets and boots I wanted to buy! It's a struggle... I hope you are able to enjoy every hour left of your summer break! Happy Wednesday.

    1. Yes, it's entirely weather related here! November is when it cools off and I'm ready for all the fall things! And thanks for the tip on the Marc Fisher pumps! I would love to find a less $$$$ option to the Stuart Weitzman pair!

  5. I am with you on savoring the last days of summer... and maybe I *should* be with you on a no-shop September. I am always so tempted by all of the new fall arrivals too, but really for at least the first couple of weeks of September, and often the whole month, it's not like we can even wear sweaters yet! Maybe I should reassess shopping/wardrobe when it actually is the temperature to wear the stuff that's tempting me :)

    1. Same boat here except it stays pretty hot until November! Hard to justify summer OR fall purchases until the new season is really here weather-wise!

  6. I love navy too and wear it more with white in the summer and browns/tans/cognac's in the fall and winter. That blouse is perfect for being just a little dressed up and I love it styled with shorts! I'm savoring these last weeks too before my daughter heads off for college!

    1. I think I just need the right pair of jeans or pants to work with this blouse...just not sure what that is yet!!

  7. This is a great outfit! I love long sleeves (or sweaters) paired with shorts. And navy blue is a great color for me as well even with black hair and a pale complexion. I wear the color often. I generally pair it with whites, cognacs and browns, or grays, but it also looks great with different pastels or a rich shade of green.

    1. Thanks Kate! Luckily I have no problem with year-round white!! I do need a new pair of white jeans, though! Mine aren't in great shape anymore.

  10. Oh my gosh, I 1000% agree with you about navy. I actually really like the way it looks on, but other than white, I never know what to put it with. I just can't bring myself to wear it with denim without feeling rather "Canadian Tuxedoish". (even with light denim) Love that new bag. I'd love to have a Chloe bag...guess I'll just have to be happy with my Chloe sunglasses. LOL

    1. Okay I'm so glad you understand! I feel the same way about wearing it with denim...which leaves me with minimal options! I really should have picked a different color but live and learn I guess.

  11. I absolutely love navy! I pair it with everything! Bright pink, green, grey, coral, purple, yellow. I love it with literally every color! I like the way it adds depth to outfits without being too dark like black. Your top is really cute! I like pairing long sleeves blouses with shorts too.

    1. You're right - it really does go well with a lot of colors. I just don't have bottoms in any of those colors! I really didn't think this one through!

  12. I love navy, too- but I find that I don't reach for it as often as I should because it is a little quirky to wear (even though I totally categorize it as a neutral). You look smashing here in this navy + white combo!
