White Cardigan + July Update

|
It's the last Wednesday of the month, which means it's time for a monthly update! I think July is my very favorite month of the summer because it's the only one with absolutely NO school. We finish up school in June, start it back up in August so it's only July that feels completely footloose and fancy free. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! As usual I'll be answering any of these prompt questions that apply to me, starting with what I'm wearing.

Most days around here it's just some variation of summertime casual! Lots of tank tops and shorts with an optional layer if I'm going somewhere with A/C. And this is a total side note, but I keep reading about the European heat wave and how awful it is since A/C is not popular there! It's easy to forget that it's not as common in other countries as it is in the States, and as much as I comment about it being "freezing" in stores or restaurants, I will definitely choose that "inconvenience" over not having it at all!

I guess I've resorted to talking about the weather because I don't really have anything important to say about this outfit. Everything is a repeat piece, everything is true to size! If you missed Monday's post, I shared more details about the jewelry I'm wearing here along with some budget-friendly options for these pieces and a few of my other favorites.

A little white cardigan is a summer staple for me. Last year I had one from Express (on the left, sold out now) but it was cut wide on the shoulders and always falling off. It drove me crazy, so as much as I loved the layering option I knew I needed something less fussy. I bought and returned several styles before settling on this $15 option from Target.

It drapes nicely, is lightweight and "ventilated" (it's hard to explain, but the material has mini teeny tiny holes in a pattern), and basically a perfect summer layer that you just can't beat for $15!
That's it for "What I'm Wearing," so let's just move right along to the rest of the What's Up Wednesday prompts I'm answering this month!

What I'm eating: This summer I've been eating a lot of tomato mozzarella salad (minus the basil). I've been eating this for lunch with a little roasted chicken on the side for protein.

What I've been up to: The usual: Work, Blogging, Reading, Chauffeuring Kids, Family Time and Date Nights.

What I'm dreading: Back to School season and a whole bunch of appointments on the calendar this month. August is going to be hectic so I just have to take it one day at a time.

What I'm excited about: Vacation this week! Today we're heading up to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for a get together with my husband's side of the family. On a related note, I read this article on Food & Wine about the 50 Best Dishes that Represent Each State. Idaho's Dish Representatives are Elk Steak with the runner up being Finger Steaks and Fry Sauce. Honestly I am also excited about trying to track those down and have a go at them myself while I'm there!

What I'm watching: We watched the first two episodes of Stranger Things, Season 3 over the weekend so I think we'll try to finish that up before school starts up again.

What I'm Reading: Run Away by Harlen Coben. This is my first book by this author and at 30% in I'd say so far so good.

What I'm listening to: I just finished Miracle Creek on Audible earlier this week and enjoyed it! I'm getting started on False Step (free on Audible with a Kindle Unlimited Membership!) and enjoying it so far. Update: I'm almost done with this now and wouldn't recommend it unless you have Kindle Unlimited and can get it for free. It started strong but didn't stay that way. It's by the same author as Jane Doe  which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately not liking this one as much. Full reviews for my current/recent reads will be coming up on Tuesday, August 13.

What I'm doing this weekend: Going to Silverwood Theme Park, boating on Lake Couer d'Alene, and probably some hiking, biking or other outdoor activities all while visiting with family. I can't wait!

What I'm looking forward to next month: Not much! The fun ends after this weekend! Ha!

I'll be taking Friday off from posting on the blog this week to fully enjoy my summer vacation, but I'll see you back here on Monday, August 5!

  1. So right about the a/c! We visited NYC some years ago and they had an insane heat wave - so many places there were not prepared and had little a/c units that just couldn't do the job. I do not complain about being cold, I'll take it any day over being hot.Total score on the white cardi from Target!
Have a great time on vacation - it sounds like fun and I can't wait to hear about the food - hope you are able to track it down!
    Safe travels my friend!

  4. I can't even imagine the heat wave we had a few weeks ago without AC! My husband is a huge Harlan Coban fan and I really like what I've read too! August is full of appointments for us too and I know it's going to fly by! Enjoy your vacation!

  6. I honestly need a white cardigan. I noticed this weekend that I have a beige one, a pink one, black and white leopard and a grey one. Need to add more variety. As for Stranger Things my boys had that watched in the first weekend it came out - lol - the older ones of course.

  8. Such a lovely layer! It's much too hot for cardis outdoors in summer here but I always have one in my bag for work, as the aircon can be so cold! But like you I'm grateful we have it - working from home when my aircon was broken was so hard during our heatwaves!

Thank you for the link up!

Hope that you are having a lovely week :)
