Sweatshirt Skirt + Friday Favorites

I hope you all had a safe and Happy 4th of July holiday! Ours was a nice and relaxing day, followed by a fun get together with friends in the evening. My mom texted me yesterday morning asking, "Did you feel the earthquake?" I said, "What earthquake?" Apparently there was a good-sized quake in SoCal that even my family in Las Vegas felt, but none of us noticed anything here! At any rate, I'm shared a fun summer skirt outfit on Wednesday and I've got another one today! Aside from both being skirts and both being under $25,  I thine these two are opposites in a few ways. One is fun, flirty and more trendy. This one is functional, versatile, and more likely to stand the test of time!

Thanks to Amazon for providing the skirt in this outfit and thanks to Shopbop for providing my jacket, sandals and handbag.

This skirt is another piece from Daily Ritual, hands down my favorite brand on Amazon! It's a thick and comfortable sweatshirt material, so you don't have to worry about any lumps or bumps showing through. It's true to size but not fitted or tight, which also makes it more casual and suited for everyday wear. I have the waistband folded over on this which does shorten it just a bit (I'm 5'4" for reference on the length), but I just found that length slightly more flattering on my frame and it kept the skirt in place better. It's hard to describe some of these fit details in words, but the main point I'm trying make is that the skirt is a little longer than what I'm showing here because of how I wore it.

I honestly think just about any color of jacket or cardigan would work with the base layers of this outfit (black skirt + white top). I chose this BB Dakota jacket in place of a denim jacket because it's thin and lighter weight than most of my other jackets, making it better for warm weather. Plus it has the roll tab sleeves which I also love since it holds the sleeves up well in a shorter length, more suited to the weather. This jacket would be a great piece for summer travel! It would pack easily without taking up a lot of space, or it would be great layer to wear on a plane. It's also on sale right now at Shopbop

Time to join up with some blogger friends for Friday Favorites and share a few things I'm loving lately!

1. Blue Light Glasses: I spend hours every day staring at a computer screen so I finally decided to try some blue-light blocking glasses. I got this pair on Amazon for $20 and so far so good!

They come in a bunch of different colors, but I chose "New Burlywood" because I thought it would be the most neutral on my coloring. I cannot say they are life changing, but they do seem to reduce the glare. After about a week of using them I noticed I did not enjoy looking at a computer screen without them!  Fingers crossed that they also protect my eyes and make a difference in the long run.

2. Beach Romper: Since my Daily Ritual jumpsuit (posted here) changed my opinion on jumpsuits, I thought maybe their romper could also win me over! Well...the answer is yes and no.

The good news is that it's great quality, true to size, and made from the same comfortable material as the jumpsuit. (Side note...I need to find a synonym for the word comfortable! I know I over-use it, but it's a huge factor for me in deciding how much I like an item of clothing, so it's hard to avoid discussing it!)  The bad news is...well, nothing! I personally feel like this is only something I'll want to wear as a beach/pool cover up or maybe to the hair salon for a low fuss outfit, but I really can't say why! Maybe because I got it in black it doesn't feel that interesting as an outfit in and of itself? Time will tell I guess, but if you do need or want a basic romper that's good quality and a good price, this will do the job!

3. Audiobook: I started The Heart's Invisible Furies this week on Audible and I am really enjoying it so far! It's held my interest from the get-go and is even making me giggle here and there. I think this one came recommended from the Amazon Book Review podcast, which I am also enjoying. My book reviews are coming up next week on Tuesday, but I don't know if I'll have this one finished by then so I thought I'd mention it now if you need a good listen.

Well, I guess that's it for today! I gave myself a break from the "Multiple Ways to Wear" type posts this week just to scale back on blogging time a bit for the holiday week, so it made the posts this week seem a lot shorter to me! But I'll be back with another one on Monday featuring one of my favorite summer accessories so I hope you'll stop by and check it out!

  1. That jacket is really the perfect piece for summer layering. The sale price is good too. I have to say I like how you are wearing it much better than on the model, I wouldn't have given it a second look!
Glad you had a relaxing 4th - I have to keep reminding myself that today is Friday and not Saturday! I wish every weekend could be a long one!

  2. Such a cute jacket for layering on a warmer day! :)

It's nice you were safe from the earthquake too, sounds like it was a bad one!

  5. I love comfy knit skirts, those are the best! I called my sister in LA to see if she felt the quake, but she was driving at the time and didn't notice anything!
