Black, White & Olive Outfits

At the beginning of this month when I sketched out my editorial calendar (i.e. what I'm going to post on the blog each M/W/F of the month), I planned to share some red, white and blue outfit inspo today given the upcoming holiday. But I haven't been wearing that color combo lately, so I decided to switch gears and highlight a different color combo I've had on repeat lately. In fact, black, white and olive are one of my favorite color combos for any season!

Since I don't live in a true four season climate, it makes sense for me to have most of my wardrobe in neutrals like this so I can get more use out of them year round. I do like having a few items in trending colors of the season, but I can't get carried away with them or they take up too much closet space the rest of the year. I often think of olive as a fall color, but it really does work well year round!

ONE: Black Jacket + White Top + Olive Jeans

I wore this as a Spring outfit but it would work equally well for Fall in this neck of the woods. To give it a more fall vibe, I'd probably swap out the sandals for peep toe booties or ankle boots. You'll notice that in most of these outfits I have leopard accent either in my shoes or my handbag. For some reason I just think a little leopard complements these colors perfectly. It's like the cherry on top of the sundae! My BB Dakota jacket here runs true to size  and I love that it has the roll tab sleeves! The sleeves stay in place I don't have to fuss with rolling them only to have them fall down later.

TWO: Olive Cardigan + Black Shorts

Let's be honest: this cardigan won't be necessary on hot summer days! But this is the most summery outfit I have on file with this color combo, and the outfit just isn't as interesting without the olive cardigan. Plus I often end up carrying a cardigan or jacket with me in the summer since I'll freeze indoors in most places with A/C. This "open sweatshirt" is true to size (I'm wearing XS here) and does indeed feel soft like a sweatshirt, but it's not too warm or heavy.

THREE: Olive Moto Jacket + White Tee + Black Jeans

Depending on your climate, this one might look like more of a Fall or Winter outfit to you. For me it's definitely a Winter outfit since our Fall weather is more of a Summer Expansion Pack. Most of these items are pretty "old" by blogging standards, but the jacket, boots and tee have been favorites that get a lot of use year after year. In hindsight I wish I had just worn regular black jeans vs. the zip pocket pair to give this outfit a more classic look, but that's one of those "blog and learn" things. I couldn't find a great current option at a reasonable for my boots since they're out of season at the moment, but I expect that will change in about a month when stores start bringing in their fall fashion.

In all of these pictures I happened to be wearing a white top and just switching the olive and black around, but I do mix it up and wear a black top with white and olive alternating as the bottom and outer layer. I'll share a few of those outfits below, but oddly enough I don't have many olive tops to shuffle things around even more. I guess I just don't gravitate to that color as much for tops. Regardless, here are a few other ways I've used this color combo in my everyday outfit/top view format. Since we're officially into summer now, I chose outfits that are more relevant to the current season to make it easier to find similar shopping options for these items.

It worked out well that I postponed my Patriotic Outfits post since Kellyann, Andrea and several other blogging friends are doing a 4th of July themed link up next Monday! I'm planning to join the for that so I guess I better wear some red, white and blue this week!

Here's the latest of what's going on in the blog world, real life, and a few other notes!

On the Blog: Coming up on Wednesday it's my June Update post a.k.a. What's Up Wednesday, a.k.a. the post where I share what I've been eating, reading, watching and doing all month. On Friday I'll be sharing my top Audiobook selections for your summer roadtrip. ICYMI, I shared my favorite page-turners you should read this summer last week!

In Real Life: I'll be going into a lot of detail about this on Wednesday's post so I won't say too much here, but we just finished our first week of summer break and it. was. glorious!!! I am loving every day. I do want to make a summer bucket list again this year. I did one last year and it was a good motivator! But I need to put a little more thought into it first before I commit to sharing anything on the blog.

I hope things are going well in your neck of the woods too! See you back on Wednesday!

  2. It's funny because I keep thinking I need to pull out my red, white, and blue and wear it since next week is the 4th yet I haven't! It's funny because I limit myself to that combo only for the 4th. You wear these neutrals so well Gina and I love how easily these looks will transition from season to season - our seasons are Hot, Hotter, Hotter than Heck. There - just 3! I think it would be so nice to live someplace that actually had all 4 seasons!
    Have a great day!

  3. This is such a nice neutral trio and you wear it well! I like the fun little touch of print with the leopard print bag too! :)

I just posted my weekday wear linkup, I'd love you to join! :)

Hope that you had a wonderful weekend :)

  4. You wear neutrals so well! Black, white and olive are so classic and versatile! Love all of these outfit combinations! I can't believe the 4th is next week already! I seem to only wear red, white and blue in July!

  5. Each of your stylizations has something special. This styling seems very simple however it is really classic. A nice combination of colors, although I miss some colors.

  6. Adding some olive with black-and-white is absolutely brilliant! You look so beautiful in all these outfits and I wish you a most marvelous Monday!

  7. This year I seem to have plenty blue and white items but no red. All we need is some warmer and dryer weather to get them out to wear. Temperature here is a good 12 degrees cooler than where we visited on holiday. The colour combo you are wearing looks great on you. Neutrals can be so practical. Have a lovely day. 8. this is a great color combo, I was also thinking about doing a 4th july inspired post but to be honest I haven't been wearing this combo so I gave up. This post is a lot more helpful in my opinion.

  9. I just finished putting up a (very) few red, white & blue touches in the house. I rarely wear that combo except for the 4th too. Isnt' that funny. Olive, black & white are a great combo!!! Have a great week!!! XOXO

  10. I don't often wear those colors either, but I think that is because it's so typically for 4th of July. Like I don't wear yellow and purple together because those were my high school colors! I think sometimes we avoid some color combos like that. I definitely don't avoid olive, black and white though! These are all great inspiration outfits!

  11. I just want to mention I’m all new to blogs and certainly savored you’re web site. More than likely I’m want to bookmark your site . You surely have good writings. Appreciate it for sharing your web page.
