Black V-Neck Dress + Currently

|
It's the first Wednesday of the month so as usual I'm joining Anne for her "Currently" link up. She provides the fun and creative prompts for this, and this month we're all sharing what we're currently experiencing, appreciating, wishlisting, posting, and considering. I'm going a little out of order to follow my normal post flow, so let's start with the outfit I'm posting today!

POSTING: This comfortable, functional black v-neck dress from Daily Ritual.

You know, I wasn't sure this length would work for me since I'm only 5'4," but I am loving it! I don't think it makes me look taller or anything (I can only wish) but having it hit just below the knee made it a lot easier to get in and out of cars and move around without worrying about it riding up and what not. I wore this last weekend on a little day date to Balboa Park and it was just perfect since it heated up quite a bit that day. I will also say the aging knee thing is no fun so if you're self conscious about that, this is great length for covering the knees but staying cool and comfortable. Even the model for this on the Amazon site is 5'11" and it still covers her knees! Oh, and yes, you can easily wear a regular bra with it, so more bonus points for that.

Another detail I really liked on this was the curved dropped hem. I thought it was flattering but again, functional for moving around

For only $20 it's a really great dress - I can't really think of anything negative to say about it! If you're not a fan of the v-neck but like the other features of this dress, you can try this option with a higher neckline and otherwise similar length, shape etc.

If you're a local or have visited Balboa Park in San Diego, just in case you're looking at these photos and wondering where this is in Balboa Park...these were taken at a different neighborhood park later in the day. While Balboa Park is beautiful and you can't go far without stumbling on someone involved in a major photo shoot around any turn, I wasn't up for doing any photos there. It had two things going on that I try to avoid for pics: bright, direct sunshine and big crowds!

That sums up the outfit details, so here are the rest of the currently prompts!

APPRECIATING: Warmer weather! It was a relatively cold, rainy winter but the last week or so it's started to feel like San Diego again, and I definitely appreciate the change.

WISHLISTING: Oh I have quite a few things on my wish list as usual! Here's a little look:
One: Z Supply (Blaire) | Two: Quay Sunglasses (Zeus) | Three: Shop Cloverpost (Circle Medallion) | Four: Airpods | Five: Wedges | Six: Cardigan |

One: As the weather warms up, I think I could use a romper to wear around the house post-shower and before I'm ready to get officially dressed to go anywhere. This Z Supply Blaire option looks exactly the right style and I really liked the pieces I've tried from this brand, but for now I'm holding off. It seems like Target or Aerie should make something similar to this for $40, no? I haven't seen a similar option either of those places yet but I'll give it another month or so.

Two: I wear my prescription sunglasses almost all of the time to avoid wearing contacts, but when I do need to wear contacts, I don't have a great pair of non-RX sunglasses to use with them. I've heard good things about Quay Sunglasses (Zeus) and the price is pretty reasonable, plus I'm intrigued by the lighter frames for Spring/Summer. I'm not sure if it will look good on me but there's only one way to find out!

Three: My budget friendly silver medallion is tarnishing and I need a replacement. This Circle Medallion from Cloverpost (Circle Medallion) looks perfect, except that I'm wanting a longer medallion and this one is shorter. So I either have to keep hunting or buy this one and get a longer chain to go with it.

Four: My kids recently got Airpods and they are loving them! Now that I can see firsthand how functional they are, I wouldn't mind a pair myself.

Five: For years I have been trying to find a pair of nude wedge pumps as comfortable as the black pair I wear all the time. But every pair I find is either not the right heel height or not the right shade of nude for me or they don't have a pointed toe. Plus, in general wedge pumps don't seem to be "in" right now so there's not much selection. In or not, they work well for me so I still want my perfect pair! I just found this option this option at DSW for $60 that comes in different taupe and blush shades that could possibly pass as nude for me. I actually just ordered three different colors (Taupe, Light Pink and Light Brown) to test in person, so one of them better work!

Six: I love having a White Cardigan on hand for Spring/Summer, but the one I had last year drove me crazy because it was always falling off my shoulders. Right now this classic boyfriend cardigan from Ann Taylor is my top contender!

CONSIDERING: How to fit a group exercise class back into my schedule. I mentioned this a couple of months ago and it's still on my to-do list. Worst case scenario is that I have to wait until the kids are out of school in the summer so our evenings aren't as busy, but I don't want to wait that long and I don't want it to be a summer-only thing for me!

Thanks for reading today and I'll see you again on Friday!

  1. I'm not one for big crowds either! I see so many people getting photos without a care in the world but I am not one of them! I get anxious enough on my own street! This dress looks so comfy and perfect for wearing while you work at home or even running errands. It would be a great vacation dress too! Love it with the jacket and hat!
Oh, and I would love a pair of Airpods too!!!

  3. My daughter and mom both have airpods and they rave about them! I love your dress! I always stay away from the midi length because I'm on the shorter side too. I think the length is perfect and flattering! Such a chic spring look!

p.s. I nominated you for the Sunshine Blogger Award (post up on the blog!)

  5. Yes to not wanting to take pics in big crowds. This may sound weird, but I'm terribly self conscious when I ask my husband to take them. I know it's stupid, but I can't help it. The dress will be a summer workhorse for sure and I'm glad you like the length. Of course it's super cute on you. If I wore earbuds more, I'd want air pods. I've heard lots of great things about them. Hope you can fit an exercise class back in. Sounds like we need to live closer to each other and go together. 😉

  8. The sunglasses are from a company I've heard lots about but have never seen any - they look good to me in this piccy though. Thanks for hosting the #linkup. Jacqui Mummabstylish

  9. I have been thinking about adding a white cardigan to my closet, but debating between a simple one like you showed or a cable knit one. Or maybe I need both! Haha! Those sunglasses are really cute! I like a less expensive pair I don't need to worry about at the pool or beach instead of using my prescription ones.

  10. That dress looks amazing on you! I love how you’ve styled it too, makes me even more excited for patio/pool days!
I wish balboa park was a bit closer to us because it really is the perfect spot for pictures! So many beautiful areas with very little people. I still can’t stand taking pictures with people around! I’m a weirdo lol
