Fleece Moto Jacket + March Update

|
You know, I thought March would seem like an especially long month compared to February, but honestly it has just flown! It was a busy month but a pretty good one, and I'm sharing my monthly update in today's post. I always start this post with what I'm wearing, and most days if I leave the house I'm still in something like this...jeans, tee or tank, and a light to medium weight layer. And this happens to be my favorite kind of outfit anyway so I am enjoying the prime season for it!

Okay, this jacket is a little bit of a splurge, but it's a good one! Comfortable, easy-to-move in fleece material and it's true to size. Some of my moto jackets tend to look more dressy, but I love that this fleece gives a more casual vibe since 95% of my lifestyle is more casual. That said, I think you could easily wear this to a business casual dress code job with nicer slacks or jeans with no rips if you're allowed to wear jeans to work. One thing I love is that the collar actually stays placed very well! With a lot of drapey collar jackets the collar flops all over the place and ends up driving me crazy. This thicker material folds out and stays out nicely.

This t-shirt is a great option for a more fitted scoop-neck layering tee. I didn't have to fuss with trying to tuck it in to make it look nice, although I noticed on the model they had her wearing it tucked in with plaid pants and it looked nice that way too. I feel like the trend in tops for the last five or so years has been a more flowy, oversized look and I'm wondering when the pendulum will swing the other way. A lot of women I talk to prefer more fitted tops to enhance their figure, and it can be tough to find good options for that look, especially when it comes to business casual wear! I'd love to hear what you think about fitted vs. flowy tops and which way you think the tide is turning on that trend!

Today I'm joining What's Up Wednesday for an end of the month, behind-the-blog life update. You can view the prompt questions for this post here, or just read on for my answers.

What I'm eating: This German Chocolate Cake. Earlier this month when my mom and sisters came to visit, their visit coincided with my mom's birthday. We had to celebrate with her favorite cake, German Chocolate! I've had this flavor a lot growing up but never made it myself, so I asked my sisters if any of them had a tried-and-true recipe. Sure enough, one sister had a favorite so I made her favorite, which is the exact recipe from this blog. It's a bit labor intensive since you have to make the two layer cake plus two kinds of frosting from scratch, but it was worth it! We all loved it and now my son wants another one for his birthday next month!

What I'm loving: I shared all of the household items I'm loving from Amazon in this post!

What I've been up to: I can't even answer this question anymore without boring myself! My answer has been the same for the past several months...work, family, date nights, reading. Lather, rinse repeat.

What I'm watching: I finally watched "A Star is Born" and I can see why the actors (especially Bradley Cooper) got nominated for their performances. I enjoyed the movie though I guess I didn't love it? I'm not a big movie person in general though, so it's probably just me. I need to check Bohemian Rhapsody off my watch list next!

What I'm reading: Whisper Me This. Apparently I ordered this back in July and completely forgot about it! I'm only 15% in and so far it's okay. It was free with my Kindle Unlimited membership and has good reviews so I'm giving it a chance. Sometimes I get asked if I think Kindle Unlimited is worth it, and my answer is an ambivalent "Maybe." There are times I feel like I'm getting good use out of it, especially when my kids find books on there to read as well. And then there are months where I feel I didn't use it at all or every "Free" book I read was really mediocre. So I guess it goes in phases.

What I'm listening to: A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman. I've heard good things about this but couldn't get motivated to pick it up because generally the Grumpy Old Man genre is not my thing. I decided to listen instead so I could check this one off my list already. So far it's a bit slow so I'm glad I didn't try to read it on Kindle.

What I'm looking forward to next month: Spring Break! I'm taking the week off work and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also happy that my kids will have a much needed break from their homework and activities too. It's been a busy Winter/early Spring and we're all ready for some R&R.

What I'm dreading: So...one of the things my kids want to do for Spring Break is visit Knott's Berry Farm. They went there on a school field trip recently and loved it so they want to go back. I don't love amusement parks, but have to admit it seems like a good Spring Break activity. I'd love your tips on surviving! I haven't been to an amusement park in ages so I'm stumped even on little decisions like do I wear sneakers or sandals? Backback or crossbody bag?

  1. What a cute jacket! it looks so cosy :)

A theme park is a great place to take the kids! We have so many here. Definitely sneakers so you don't have to take shoes off to go on rides, and a crossbody bag to keep everything close!

Thanks for the link up! Hope your week is off to a good start :)

  2. Oh Gina, you and I are so much alike! I felt the same way about A Star is Born. It was okay but I don't get teary when I hear the song and I didn't cry during the movie. I liked Bohemian Rhapsody far better. I thought maybe I was just in a hard place because my dad was sick and that was why I wasn't all crazy about it. I mean 98% of women die for that film and I was like "yeah it was good but..."
My dad loved German Chocolate! I will have to check out that recipe, we will still celebrate his birthday each February with his favorite cake so I can always use a great recipe.
Spring Break will be wonderful! I always like it when my kids get a break, they work so hard! I'm glad you are off too and can do fun things with them!

  3. There are so many things I can agree with you on. My go to outfit is jeans and a tee, and some layering piece, and I am not a big fan of amusement parks. I loved them when I was in my teens, but not so much anymore. I love German chocolate cake - but have not had it in years! And, I have yet to see A Star is Born. One last thing - March has gone by in a blur! Happy Wednesday!

  4. OMG I tried listening to a man called Ove last year and gave up. It was so slow. This is a good jacket, I think my closet is missing a key jacket but I can't figure out which one.

  5. I have never even thought about a fleece moto jacket but my goodness it is perfect! Oh boy, amusement parks with the boys were something else and we were exhausted at the end of the day but they always had so much fun so it was worth it! Yum, German chocolate cake sounds so good right now. I hope you have the best day beautiful!

  6. I'm not a big amusement park person either, I totally get that. Your routine sounds a lot like mine--maybe not the most exciting but it's comforting to be in a regular routine. I like it :) That does look like a great jacket and one that is super versatile. Oh, I loved Ove, I'll be curious to hear what you think! I also listened on audio.

  7. First of all, Super cute outfit! I love the fleece moto jacket and may need to consider adding one to my own wardrobe. I am just getting into the habit of wearing lightweight jackets indoors as part of my outfit. I am always cold anyway! Second, I also hate amusement parks...every bit of them. So I don’t ever go! I send the grandparents with the kids. Hahaha.

  8. Gina, I watched Ralph Breaks the Internet with my younger boys the othr night and I died a little each moment. lol. It's so bad. Anyway, I need to catch up on movies that are actually entertaining. lol. Anyway, I hope you end up having a great time at Knott's Berry Farm. I'm sure you look cute regardless. And I LOVE those jeans. I keep buying black denim that's slightly too small. Then i don't want to wear them.

  9. You have all the cute moto jackets. Ha, my advice for amusement park survival is to make you husband ride the rides with them, lol. Or let them bring a friend. I used to love amusement parks, but was shocked to find that I can no longer ride on all those crazy turning, spinning things that I used to love. Got very nauseous. Good luck.

  10. Your fleece moto jacket is so cute and perfect for spring weather! Roller coasters terrify me because I'm afraid of heights so I always made my husband go on them with my daughter! I'd opt for a small backpack or belt bag and wear sneakers.

  11. What a cute jacket and definitely worth the splurge. You know I'm not a reader, but I did read A Man Called Ove back when it first came out. Stick with it, it's good in the end. Wear your sneakers to Knotsberry. I know you want to look cute, but comfort comes first😉 You're a good mama for taking them! XO

  15. I read Whisper Me This last month and I'll be curious about your review. The main character kind of bothered me. I mean make a decision already!

  16. For our upcoming amusement park visit I found this cute nylon mini backpack that also converts to a crossbody! That way you have both options :) http://bit.ly/2JYM89J Hoping that A Star Is Born is available on the plane on our spring break trip, because I STILL haven't seen it... Enjoy your break!
