Cable Stitch Reviews + Friday Favorites

|
I've had some good luck with the Cable Stitch line of sweaters from Amazon, and since winter is here I wanted to check out a few more of their styles that looked promising. I own and love two sweaters from this brand and felt like the quality was nice for the price point (generally in the $40-60 range). But now that I've tried six sweaters from this line, there are two key things I've learned: first, sizing is a bit inconsistent. Second, color representation may be a little off. Here's a look at four sweaters I tried recently and how they compared to the stock image.
ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR

In all photos below I'm wearing jeans from Express and Lucky Brand ankle boots (both older/sold out). I am also wearing Size XS in all of these sweaters, and as you can see there's quite a bit of variance in how each one fits.
ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR

ONE: V-Neck Cozy Sweater in Off White
For me, this sweater had the most inaccurate color representation of the bunch. It's called "Off White" but in the product photo it was a clay/taupe/grey on my screen. But the reviews said that it was more white than depicted, and I was counting on that since I couldn't imagine that color being flattering on me. It is in fact a cozy fabric so I really did like that, but I was surprised at how short the length was on me vs. the model. Yes, she's wearing one size up from me, but she's also most likely a lot taller than me! (For some items they tell the height of the model but for this one they didn't.) For me, this was a misson all counts. If I go up another size it might give me the length I want but I think it's going to be too oversized everywhere else. For another thing, I didn't like the narrow shaped v neck. Compared two the fourth (pink sweater) which was just about a perfect V-neck for me: not too narrow or wide and not too deep/low cut. And last but not least, the Off White color didn't really suit me, nor was I into the other color choices on this one.

TWOMock Neck Cozy Sweater in Wine
Of the batch of four, this was the piece I most wanted to work for me and I ended up texting three friends to get opinions on whether to keep or return! Again this is a "Cozy Sweater" and the material is great! I really do love it. I also love the color - I think my photo makes it look just a bit darker than it is in real life so the stock photo was pretty accurate. I don't mind oversized sweaters, but the problem for me with this is that all of the "oversized" material is along the side of the body. It's not long enough to wear with leggings, and it's not just a boxy cut. It's got complete extra folded flaps of fabric on the sides of my body that lay kind of awkwardly. With a front tuck it was moderately better but not much. Sadly this went back as well. That said, I'd still recommend this if you are able to size down one size.

THREE: Raglan Shaker Stitch Pullover in Marled Camel
Going to the opposite end of the fit spectrum for these sweaters, this camel sweater was too tight! While it doesn't look super fitted in my photo, the armholes were coming up too high into my armpits so it felt small. I debated whether to order the Small or XS in this since I didn't want it to be tight, but given the fact that the model was 6 feet tall and wearing a Small, I thought I would be okay with the length and fit in an XS. Either she is all legs or a Small is much longer than an XS. Or she was wearing a different size than they listed. The info just doesn't add up for me, but with the right fit this would be a great sweater. The material is comfortable, it's nicely made and the button detail is fun. But I do recommend ordering one size up from your normal size.

FOUR: Textured Back Long Sleeve Sweater in Camille Pink Sweater
Of all four sweaters here, I would say this one was the most true to size. While it's not one of the "cozy" fabric sweaters, it's still perfectly comfortable and not itchy at all. The textured back on this will make it more suited for Spring weather, which is why I wanted to get it in pink. But...the pink was more Pepto pink in person than what I expected from the stock photo. For myself I prefer a lighter, softer pastel pink as shown. It does have two other color options that look nice so I may give one of those a shot before giving up on this.

In summary, all of these went back due to fit or color, so that was a disappointing result. I still think the quality of these are nice but I hope some of their future options will be a little more consistent with the sizing! In case you missed my previous posts, here's a quick look at my two favorite sweaters from this line, originally posted here and here.

Time to join up with some blogger friends for Friday Favorites! If you enjoy a random assortment of favorites like this, see who I'm linking up with at the end of this post to find more posts like this!

1. Red Tops for Valentine's Day: I'm hoping to find a great red top for Valentine's Day so I can have something red and festive to wear for daytime or possibly just date night. I'm thinking either a red cami to layer under a blazer or jacket or a red top/sweater to wear on its own with black jeans. I've rounded up some designer options from Shopbop (Options 1-4) along with some more budget friendly options to consider for V-Day and beyond:
ONE: Cami NYC (Sweetheart Charmeuse Top) | TWO: Helmut Lang (Asymmetrical Tube Tank)
THREE: Enza Costa (Half Sleeve Crew Tee) | FOUR: ASTR The Label (Sepulveda Sweater)
FIVE: Amazon Cami ($15) | SIX: Express ($30 - Sale)
SEVEN: Revolve ($57) | EIGHT: Amazon ($16)

2. Masked Singer: I haven't exactly been watching this show, but my mom and sisters were texting about it this week so I had to look up a couple of videos on YouTube so I could participate in the conversation! I first heard of the Korean version last summer when Ryan Reynolds was on it but I never imagined it would come to the States! After watching a few performances I have to say it's surprisingly intriguing! Have any of you all watched this show yet?

3. Un-Favorites: This week was filled with a lot of un-favorite activities so I struggled to come up with anything else fun to discuss here! At work my favorite co-worker has her last day today, which is great for her since she's moving on to better things, but a bummer for me. At home, each of my kids ended up having an urgent care trip and missing some school for minor health concerns, so that was not a favorite either. And my dentist appointment on Wednesday wasn't a highlight, either! I could go on with my list, but let's just say it was one of those weeks! I'm sure you've all had those where life inconveniences keep piling up. Again it's nothing truly terrible so I'm grateful for that, but I'm still ready to be done with this week entirely. I did share a lot of recent favorites in Wednesday's post so if you missed that, head on over there for more!

As always, thanks for stopping by and spending a few minutes of your day with me! I appreciate your time and support!

  1. It's a shame none of those tops worked out - I hate when things aren't what you expect based on the details online! I'm always wary of ordering from new places for that reason.

Hope that you are having a great weekend after your less than perfect week! We finally have our aircon fixed - it was so tough suffering through the heatwave without it!

    1. Oh yes, if I'm trying a new place they need to have super easy returns!

  2. For the most part it was a meh week for me as well, nothing special happened but nothing bad. Your round up of red tops is so good, I wouldn't mind adding another red top to my closet, I currently only have one.

    1. Same! I only have one but I'm not loving the fit of it right now so I wouldn't mind 1-2 other styles.

  3. Ugh, I do not like going to the dentist! And I am so sorry the kids had trips to urgent care! Let’s put this week behind us girl, I promise next week will be much better! I forgot today was national wear red day and your red selections are wonderful! Wishing you lots of love and peace this weekend!

  4. This week was blah for me too. Ready to move on to the weekend and warmer weather! The sizing and colors are always hit or miss on Amazon. Your sweater review is so helpful! Love your red top picks, especially #6 & #7!

    1. I've had MUCH better luck with other lines at Amazon, like Daily Ritual. But they just don't have much in stock right now so I had to branch out! So much for that! LOL!

  5. I always wonder how colors can be so off when purchasing online. I would not be for the Pepto pink, either. I hope you have a relaxing weekend - and next week is much better for you!

    1. It does make me wonder if they used a Sample product for the photos and then the actual batch of products ended up different? I don't know but they were just so off!

  6. i love the picture of #1, but yeah, looks completely different on you! i definitely prefer #4 for the vneck, but they both look shorter than i'd like - and like you said, i could size up (and up) to get it long enough but then it would probably fall off me lol. bummer about #2. i really like the tunic you already have, very flattering and love how long it is (the link goes to the stripe sweater though, i found it from your other post but just wanted to let you know). sorry about the urgent care trips, hope everyone is okay, minor or not. it always sucks when a favourite coworker leaves, i get super sad even though you want what's best for them.

    1. You are the best for letting me know when my links are messed up! Thank you - it should be fixed now!

And yeah, for taller people I think tunics are probably the only realistic option from this line. The model on that pink v neck sweater was allegedly 6'0" and wearing a Small but I'm not sure I buy that!

  7. I read all the reviews now before ordering anything on Amazon because I have ended up with items that didn't even resemble what I ordered. I do like these sweaters, especially #2. I am sorry that didn't work out.

  9. I have been buying (and returning) a few sweaters and tops from Amazon too; fit and colors are often off and I find that even if I like them some hold up well and others hardly hold up at all.

    1. Yeah, I have started limiting my Amazon selections to certain brands more and more (e.g. Daily Ritual and Pattyboutik are favorites) because it's so tiring to keep buying/returning things that don't work!

  10. Wow! That sizing really is inconsistent! The rust colored sweater looks promising, but I agree-it looks like there is a lot of material on the sides! I know what you mean about all the little inconveniences and little things that add up. I've had lots of days/weeks like that when I tell my husband I just need to vent for a few minutes then I feel much better!

    1. Yes! I felt like I was venting in this post a bit. I try to be positive here but I also want to be honest that not every day/week is just soooo wonderful!
