Rust Cardigan + Currently

|
This month I'm participating in No Shop September, and although we're only five days in, so far I think it's going to be a good experience. I may have a different opinion about it by the 30th, but so far it's really making me get organized in my outfit planning for the blog. I spent some time over the weekend going through my closet and some of my old outfit posts to see what things I had from last year around this time that I still liked and wanted to wear again. This rust cardigan is one I'd kind of forgotten about, but it's the perfect weight for transition weather, so I was happy to put it to use again.

Per the product description, this cardigan is "Coffee" color. But I don't personally drink coffee in this color so I'm having a hard time using that color name! I'm wearing a small in this and I'd say it's true to size. This lace trim cami is another piece from last year (linking to this year's version), and I didn't use it as much during the summer either because I didn't want to have to wear a strapless bra. But if I know I'll be wearing a layer and hiding the straps, I just wear a regular bra with it for more comfort.

This leopard crossbody bag was my one and only NSale purchase. But guess what? It's now marked down to less than what I paid during the sale. This is exactly the reason I rarely shop the NSale...things always go back on sale and there's no need for me to buy fall clothes in July. I thought I was safe with this bag since I can use it for all seasons, but the fact that it's cheaper now than during the sale just reduces the odds of me shopping the sale in the future! (Bitter, party of one!)

My ankle boots are true to size, and although they do have perforated detail a the back, they aren't see through so you can still wear socks with them, which is exactly what I'm doing here! I'm not a big fan of wearing shoes without socks aside from sandals. If you need some nude, no-show socks to wear with shoes like this, I like these from Amazon.

On the first Wednesday of every month I love joining up with Anne for her "Currently" link-up. She provides the creative variety of topics, and the participants provide the answers! This month we're all sharing what we're currently starting, buying, sharing, reading, and recording.

Starting...to get the hang of the new routine for fall. It was overwhelming for the first full week with the kids going back to school and me starting a new job all at the same time, but I'm learning to balance work, blog and family life. (If you missed the details on my job you can find them in this post.)

Buying...as little as possible for No Shop September! For me, this is mostly not buying new clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. I'll still be buying books to read and I will replace cosmetic items that run out. I want this exercise to help me narrow down the true gaps in my wardrobe. So far there are three things I don't have that I could really see myself using: a fall hat, olive jeans, and a fall dress. These options from Shopbop are similar to what I have in mind, but they'll have to wait until October!
Sharing...my next round of book reviews next Tuesday, September 11. If you like to read and want to start posting book reviews, I highly recommend joining Steph & Jana for the Show Us Your Books link up! It's such a great community! I didn't read as much as usual this month due to everything else happening in life, but I still have a couple of great books to recommend.

Reading....Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris and just getting started on The Lake House by Kate Morton.

Recording....everything I wear and organizing my closet with Stylebook App. Jenna posted about this on Sunday and I immediately downloaded the app. I had just planned out my blog outfits for the month on a paper planner, but I love the idea of having an app for this on my phone with visuals of my actual clothes! I think the set up process is going to be tedious and take awhile, but hopefully it will be worth it. I'll keep you posted!

That's the latest from here. Thanks for reading and I'll see you back on Friday!

  1. Makes you wonder how they come up with names for colors doesn't it? Coffee seems like it would be much darker, oh well! A no shop month sounds like a great idea, I am trying not to buy much but I do have couple of things I'll be getting for a trip in October. That app sounds great but I'll bet the set up is tedious yet worth it. I may look into it! I'm excited about your upcoming book review!
    Have a great day Gina!

    1. It's taking me about 15 minutes to do one outfit per day on Stylebook. Which feels like forever since I can selfie it much faster!! But I really want to try it for a month (minimum!) so hopefully it will get easier.

  2. The color is great!! The boots are fantastic and you are gorgeous!! That darn NSale, I am going to use restraint next Summer because I never really love some of the things I get just to get, lol. Can't wait to read your next book reviews. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

    1. Glad I'm not alone with the Nsale! I do love the bag I got, but I've only used it a few times since I got it so waiting to save another $20 would have been just fine!

  3. Yes I think not shopping for September will be great and I'm considering extending it to another month, maybe all the way to December and only use GC if I have any. I know about the nsale, I noticed that too, next year I will probably shop it even less. Hopefully next year as a whole I will barely shop.

This cardigan is gorgeous love the color and length, we have so much gems in our closets. I started setting up my stylebook app by taking pics of items I have on the internet. The rest I will actually have to take pictures. It's going to be tedious but fun once it's all done. It will also show how much clothes I really have, which I already know is a lot.

    1. I'm definitely using as many stock photos as I can. Express pieces are always on a model and on some weird background so I have to take my own pics of ALL of those!! Argh. Can't wait to see more of your Stylebook pics!

  4. That's a cute cardi, great you could rediscover it! I found when I did my 7 months without shopping that it made me appreciate what I had more and the huge variety of outfits I could create without shopping!

Your bag is cute, although it's a shame it's reduced even more now! I like the print! :)

I'd love to know how you plan out your outfits for the month - even if you do decide just to use the app. I could never plan that far in advance, I'm impressed! Sometimes it feels like a chore planning out something to wear for the next day in the evenings, haha!

Thank you for the link up!

I hope that you are having a good week so far! :)

    1. 7 months of no shopping is impressive!! As far as planning my outfits for the month, I'll try to get more detailed on that in another post. But in short, I sat in my closet with a calendar and looked for things I hadn't shared on the blog in awhile or at all, then starting selecting dates to wear them and wrote them on the calendar!

  5. I am with you on the NSALE. Sometimes I wonder why I scramble to buy things - when I can get them for cheaper later - with lot less anxiety! Love the rust cardigan.

  6. No Shop September is a great idea. Not sure if I could do it or not, but I definitely think it's worth a try... after the Lilly sale, ha.

    1. Haha, yes, I made sure to wait until I had purchased something from the Express labor day sale on August 31 before I started this!!

  7. That's great you're getting used to the fall schedule, and I hope you are enjoying your new job. That's awful that the bag you got is now LESS than what you paid for. I don't usually take part in those big sales.

  10. Finding that bag marked down even more now would make me mad too! I always get salty when I miss out on saving money! Hopefully it's not marked down too much more. I can't wait to see what you've been reading lately! I always get some great ideas from those posts!

    1. It's not too much less than what I paid (I think $20?). But had I known I could have easily waited!

  11. oh, rage that the bag you got is even cheaper now. how rude.
i am trying to do a no spend september - so far so good-ish. books are hard ;)
can't wait for your thoughts on the lake house, i forget - is this your first kate morton book?

  13. This made me laugh because my coffee is pretty close to that color--if only I didn't like cream so much. :) I love the length of that cardigan too. Those are some great fall shopping picks. I have olive jeans on my list too. I've heard of that app. I use the Cladwell app which I think is similar.

    1. I will have to check out the Cladwell app! I like Stylebook so far but I also like options. :) Funny I love creamer but my coffee never looks this orange except if there's a large amount of pumpkin spice! LOL.

  14. They're totally different, but I love David Sedaris and Kate Morton's books both so much! And man, I really should contemplate this no spend September - it's been so long since I've been able to wear jeans and such that I should just enjoy what's in my closet... but not buying fall stuff is soooo hard :)

    1. I think it helps that we don't really have true fall here! So if I buy fall stuff...most of it I can't wear until winter. Glad to know you like both of those authors!! I've heard great things about Kate Morton so I'm excited to finally check her out.

  15. Hope things are going well in your new job! I'd be annoyed about the bag too! I never buy much at the NSale either. It always seems to go back on sale around the same time you'll start wearing it. Looking forward to your book review!

    1. Isn't that the truth! I usually stick to bags or jewelry that I can wear right away, and yet I still got burned this year! Always appreciate you stopping by! :)

  16. That would make me call Nordstrom and complain to them. Stop trumping up your sale if it's going to be cheaper like five minutes later.

I haven't done a no spend month in a while. I always liked doing them.

  17. I literally tried like six times to comment on this post whilst I was at the airport, but now I finally have internet I've fully forgotten everything I wanted to say lol. basically, I love the look on you as the neutral colours really suit you and your skin tone. I'm also planning on cutting down on buying items this month - so far it's harder than it seems! already I have a silk pillow in my Amazon wishlist haha.
