Red Plaid Shirt for Now & Later

|
I know I've said over and over again that summer is my favorite, but I will admit this plaid shirt makes me a tiny bit excited for fall. That and the fact that the local consensus is that this summer has been San Diego's hottest ever. Considering I lived in Seattle before moving here, it's been at least decade since I had a really long, hot summer. If we have any more like this I might start changing my tune about summer! I do love it for the relaxed pace, but our Spring weather was far more enjoyable.

Truthfully, for the better part of the day I wore this plaid shirt tied at the waist just to add some visual interest to my outfit since it was too hot to wear it like a normal shirt (in the same manner as I styled it with the dress below). But by the evening it was cool enough to wear it like this to a casual dinner at a beachy sports bar. I haven't owned a plaid this bold since the 90s, but I was drawn to this one and I especially loved the studded details on the pockets and collar. It's a little hard to see those details in these photos, but you can see them on the top-view photo I posted on Instagram.

As I'm writing this, my plaid shirt is 40% off and sizes are starting to sell out. If you like this exact style, I wouldn't wait too long to order or your size may be gone. It's true to size (I'm wearing XS) and a comfortable, soft material. If your size is no longer available, here's a similar red plaid option fully stocked.

Aside from my top, my shorts and sandals are from Target a couple of years ago but fairly easy to duplicate with similar items as I've linked above. This Tory Burch Chelsea Crossbody holds my wallet, keys, phone and lipgloss, so I've ended up using it beyond just the date night bag I thought it would be. For budget medallion crossbody bag options try this one or this one.

Three Ways to Wear:
This plaid shirt will transition nicely from summer to fall. I put together a few ways to wear it now and later with basic pieces already in my wardrobe:
THREE: Plaid Shirt | Black Jeans | Ankle Boots (c/o) (Budget option w/ more sizes)

We did a little back to school shopping over the weekend and have some school orientation and registration activities to attend this week. I guess that's made it a little easier to think about fall fashion and start planning ahead despite the summer weather. Hope you all are having a good week and hope to see you back here for a new post on Friday!

  1. Your plaid shirt looks great! My sister has a few, and I've tried the ones she's no longer wanted, but I've never found my perfect one yet!

Hope that you are having a good week! I have the week off so I've got lots of relaxing things planned! :)

    1. Ha, all plaids are not created equal. Hope you're able to find one you like!

  2. I love the relaxed pace of summer but I'm not a fan of the heat and humidity. The perfect place for me to live would be one with mild summers for sure and then of course mild winters too. But, sadly for me, I'm not moving anytime soon so I just have to deal with the heat and humidity! I'll bet Seattle was cold! Anyhow, I haven't worn a plaid shirt tied at my waist and I'm not sure I could pull it off, I like it on you so much though! It does add some visual interest and it's great for layering later. I'll have to give it a go and see what happens. Have a great Wednesday Gina!

    1. I originally planned to wear it open like a cardigan (as shown in the selfie) but...I just like some shape at the waist! Can't help it. San Diego weather is usually pretty great, but it makes you spoiled quickly so we are a bunch of complainers over the smallest weather inconvenience. LOL!

  3. This is the CUTEST look. I think I will pack something like this for our 2nd college boy move this week. Plaid shirts have me heart and I love this Summer-ized version! Have a GREAT day today!

    1. I hadn't worn much plaid since last fall so it was a nice change for me too. :)

  5. I love your bold plaid shirt and how you styled it different ways. It is probably the 90s in me - but I like to tie my plaid shirt around my waist - like the look with your black dress. I'm looking forward to cooler fall weather - we have had extreme hot temps here, too, nothing comfortable this summer.

  6. It's so easy to become desensitized to the weather once you get used to it out here. My son loves to make fun of me when I say it's "cold" (50's) After living in MN you'd think I could handle it better, but oh how soon we forget. LOL. I love the versatility of a plaid shirt. I ordered a red and black and white and black during "the sale"😉

  8. Spring is much more bearable than Summer here! We had such a perfect Spring that I think I got complacent and now I'm over the heat! It's usually about August when I feel this way though. Love plaid! This one looks so soft :)

  11. You make this plain shirt looks so darn cute! I like it best with the shorts. Something about adding sleeves to shorts that I like. Have a great weekend.
