Black T Shirt Dress + August Update

|
Today I'm joining What's Up Wednesday for an end of the month, behind-the-blog life update. You can view the prompt questions for this post here, although you'll find I answer them all out of order and skip the ones that have me staring at the computer screen stumped for too long. As the saying goes, "My bloggy, my choice." Or something like that. Anyway...let's get started!

What I'm Wearing: Since I joined Team Dresses this year, I've been adding a few easy, comfortable options to my wardrobe. This "long sleeve" t-shirt dress is my latest addition. I write "long sleeve" with quotes because that's the product name, but since the sleeves don't go all the way to my wrists (they aren't pushed up here) I'd say it's more of a 3/4 length sleeve. That length works great for me since it stays out of my way way a little better in everyday life.

This dress runs true to size (I took an XS in this), but it's a little more fitted than the other dresses I have from the Daily Ritual line (e.g. the Daily Ritual short sleeve dress in this post is just a bit more of a relaxed fit even though I'm wearing the same size). For me, the plaid shirt was doing double duty. It worked as an accessory to add some visual interest to a solid color, plus it made me feel a little less self conscious about having the posterior region on full display.

One thing that's not different between the different options is the length. I'm 5'4" and the length of these is perfect for me. I like that they're just above the knee, but of course, that will vary with your height. As usual, I'm sharing three ways to style this piece to help you decide if this is something that will work for your wardrobe and lifestyle. This time I arranged them in a progression from more casual to a little more dressy.
TWO: Utility Jacket | Necklace | Ankle Boots (Similar with more Sizes) | T-Shirt Dress (c/o)
THREE: Blush Cardigan | Necklace | Sandals
T-Shirt Dress (c/o)

What I'm loving: Motivating Podcasts! If you need a little boost, check out The Skinny Confidential: Him & Her Podcast Episode #120 with Michael Gervais. Based on this episode, I don't think I'd listen to many episodes by this couple unless it was a guest I really wanted to hear. But this particular guest was A+ and really ran the interview well even though he was the interviewee. (Thanks to my friend Kristi for the recommendation!)

What I've been up to: Buying school supplies, getting the kids organized and oriented to a new routine and getting myself adjusted to a new weekday routine with a new job.

What I'm dreading: Stressful homework loads, balancing said homework loads with the kids extra-curricular activities, math problems that I have Google/find YouTube tutorials to help my kids figure out and all of these things that become a regular part of life now that school is back in session.

What I'm working on: Last week, I started a new job as a personal stylist. It's been really fun getting a lit more (virtual) hands on with helping women build their wardrobes. For quite some time I've felt like blogging wasn't really allowing me to help people in the practical kind of way that I wanted. I feel more like an entertainment service provider here than a solution provider. And don't get me wrong, it's fun and I enjoy it! But I couldn't deny the urge to make some changes or branch out somehow. Earlier this year I really enjoyed working as a personal stylist to help with an office makeover project (more on that in this post), so I did some research on a few different companies that offer personal styling services. I found one with a business model that appealed to me, and as they say, the rest is history! I'm now styling clients Monday through Friday and learning a lot in the process!

What I'm excited about: The weather has been a little bit nicer the past week or so and it feels great! This summer was hot and humid and I'm excited for a return to normal San Diego temps.

What I'm watching: My husband and I are still slowly making our way through The Crown on Netflix. We only watch 1 or 2 episodes per week so it's taking us quite some time to get through the two seasons.

Reading: I just finished Educated on Audible. I hate to over-hype a book, but it is the best memoir I have ever read. It's just so fascinating! I'm about to start How to Have a Good Day next. I'm also reading American by Day on Kindle and enjoying that a lot too. With all the back to school stuff going on my reading pace on Kindle has slowed way down this month, which is a bummer but just the way it is sometimes.

What I'm looking forward to next month: In September I'm going to try to play along with The Blended Blog and their Fall Fashion Frenzy schedule. I think I have pieces for most of the themes they have listed, so it seems like a nice way to stay organized and have some help planning the content schedule here as I adjusting to a new routine!

And there you have it! Another month in the books and what a busy month it was. I'll see you back here on Friday to share a few favorites for Labor Day Weekend Sales.

    1. Yes, for sure! So far most clients have wardrobe needs that are so different from what I share on the blog (business casual is a big one) so it's nice to be able to help with that without buying things I don't need for myself!

  7. I just finished "The Crown." I thought it was interesting as I really didn't know much about the Royal Family (I was never one to follow them) and Educated sounds really interesting. Thanks for hosting the link-up.

    1. Same here, I never followed the Royal family all that closely (especially anything that happened prior to my lifetime!) so this is all new to me!

  10. That is such a versatile dress! I am loving it with the utility jacket for fall! I normally shy away from more fitted dressed like that, but I like the layers and the plaid top you tied around your waist to help with that!

    1. Yes, I definitely needed longer pieces to wear with this one since it is a little pretty fitted.

    1. Thank you so much Brooke! I appreciate that. And yes, homework was stressful at times in Kindergarten so I think they just gradually make it worse every year. :( You get used to it but I still can't help complaining!

It's challenging me (in a good way) and giving me a lot of perspective on the wardrobe needs of a bigger variety of women. We all have such unique lifestyles and preferences, that's for sure!
