Black Sleeveless Tank for Work + Play

|
I'm at a point where I feel like I have most of my wardrobe basics covered, but if you've followed me for awhile you probably know I tend to favor v-neck tops 90% of the time. Crew necks feel restrictive on my neck, and I also don't find them as flattering on myself. But I was intrigued when I saw this $12 black sleeveless tank because the bateau neckline was unlike any I've worn or tried recently. It reminded me of the type that Jackie O. wore (e.g. in this pic with Queen Elizabeth), so I gave it a try and I have to say I'm really glad I did!

I tend to vary between XS or Small in tops (even within this exact brand) and I went with an XS in this. The fit is perfect! Not tight and not too baggy. I can also wear a regular bra with this top which has been a top priority for me this summer. I really don't have a lot more to say about this top except that it's fantastic and you honestly can't beat it for the $12 price. I was really impressed with the quality, and I think it's a heavy enough jersey knit even to wear for a more professional setting. I  shared an outfit styling option for business casual wear with this top in my Three Ways to Wear section below. I wore this outfit to take my kids to their dentist appointment on the last day of summer break since I knew the office would be cold and I'd want to be in pants. I was right, and I could have used a jacket, too!

As far as sizing for the other pieces in this outfit, my jeans and shoes are both true to size. These jeans are my favorite pair of classic, non-distressed "nicer" blue jeans. I've had them for years and they've held up really well. If they're not on sale today, hang tight because Labor Day Weekend is upon us and Express will most likely do a storewide 40% off sale.

Coming up on the blog this week: On Wednesday I have my end-of-the month, behind the blog update for the month of August. This month has been a whirlwind of change around here so stay tuned for Wednesday's post if you've missed any of the updates along the way. I'm keeping this section short today so Wednesday's post doesn't end up too redundant.

On Friday I'm planning to put together a round-up of some of my recent Express favorites for those who want Labor Day Sale recommendations. There are a few things I purchased during their last big sale that I love and haven't shared yet, so I'll try to at least take some selfies of those to share on Friday too.

In Real Life: The weekend was busy with homework for the kids, chores and errands for the household, a birthday party for my oldest and me trying to switch my blogging routine around to get more done on the weekend. This week is our first full week back to school and my first full week at my new job. I know I haven't been too specific about my job yet, and it's partly because it's all new to me and I'm not sure of the proper way to handle it on a public venue. I've been observing other bloggers the past couple of weeks and it seems most bloggers stay fairly private about their employer but will get more specific about their line of work, whether it's teacher, lawyer, librarian, engineer, etc. I guess that seems like the best route for now, so stay tuned for Wednesday's post for the scoop! (Hint: It has something to do with fashion!)

  1. It's a great basic tank and I really like it dressed up with the blazer! :) Your new job sounds great so it's good you're going to share a little more about it.

I know I don't share my employer as there are employee guidelines that prohibit me from doing so - but the industry and non-specifics is definitely fine to share :)

Hope that you had a lovely weekend and your week is off to a good start :)

    1. Thanks for the feedback, Mica! Interesting that your job has limitations about what you share!

  2. I am having a hard time believing this tank is only $12! What a great piece. I usually go for v-necks as well but the neckline on this is certainly flattering and it makes a great layering piece.
Aren't you a lucky lady to be doing something in fashion - how fun! I hope you are enjoying your new job!

  6. I agree. I really like that neckline. I tend to favor vnecks too, but they don't work very well with longer necklaces. That neckline is perfect and more attractive than a traditional rounded neck.

  7. That is a great tank and I love the boat-neckline for something different. I also tend to favor v-necks but this is a great alternative. Good luck with getting back into the school routine and into a new one with your new job. I hope you had a wonderful first week! I can't wait to hear more :)

  8. i feel the same about crew necks and v necks. it's funny, i used to be the opposite but now i'm 100% v neck. i am picky about them because they sometimes fall weird on me, but i don't like crew necks that much at all anymore (unless they are really loose). off to check that tank out. congrats on the new job! sorry i missed that. i work in construction but don't reveal my employer, i feel like that's just a bit too... reveal-y. haha. we went to our jobsite the other day and i wanted to take pictures but our logos are everywhere and on our hard hats so... nope. haha.

    1. Yeah, I really couldn't think of anyone who shares exactly where they work. Maybe it feels like sharing your home address in a way. Too reveal-y. :)
