What's Up October, Side Tie Tank + Link Up

Today I'm joining What's Up Wednesday for an end of the month, behind-the-blog life update (along with hosting Style on the Daily Linkup with Amy Ann, as usual!). You can view the prompt questions for this post here, or just read on to find out what's been going on around here lately!

What I'm wearing:
Side-Tie Tank | Denim Jacket | Black Jeans | Bag (c/o) | Necklace | Earrings (Gunmetal Black)

This side-tie tank is a new favorite! It's so comfortable and the side tie is a fun detail. If you have a short torso, it might be long enough for you to wear with leggings but I opted for jeans since even though I could pull it down longer, it wouldn't stay that way without a lot of fussing/adjusting. It runs true to size, and comes in one other lavender-ish color.

Express has a couple of other tops with the same ruched + side tie detail as this tank with different colors and sleeve lengths. I could definitely see grabbing a long sleeve version for cooler weather. These also seem to have a bit of a higher scoop neck than the tank version I'm wearing.

After wishing I had a pair of almost-flat black boots to wear to a concert last month, I ordered this studded/strappy pair to fit the bill. Now I probably won't go to another concert for years, but I've seen several of my blogger friends wear similar pairs for casual wear so I'm sure I can find other excuses to wear them!

I ordered a half-size down in these black studded buckle boots, but everything else I'm wearing ran true to size.

What I'm eating this week:
Less sugar than last week (I hope). Every time I see a news headline about the unhealthiness of sugar, I avert my eyes, pretend I didn't see it, and delude myself into thinking my habits can't be that bad. I'm finally facing up to the fact that I know I need to do better for my own health and to set a better example for my kids. Baby steps here!

What I'm dreading:
Given that I'm trying to reduce sugar intake, I'm not looking forward to dealing with the stash of candy my kids are likely to bring home on Halloween next week! It's kind of a bummer since I usually love Halloween!

What I'm working on:
Photography is still the number one thing that comes to my mind for this topic. My kids are still my primary photographers so we're all learning together about different locations that work well (or not), which time of day works best given their schedule, etc. I'm also realizing editing photos is a key part of getting a specific look, and I know I'll need to do some lessons or tutorials on that too at some point. I was ready to give up after the first month of attempting non-selfies for blog pictures, but I'm finally starting to feel like there's progress and hope to continue! Oh, and of course I'm working on breaking that bad habit I talked about on Monday. So far not so good!

What I'm watching:
We finished Season 3 of Better Call Saul this month and have loved the entire series so far. Now the loooong wait for Season 4 begins. I'm also watching Dancing with the Stars. For some reason I don't think I'm connecting with the "Stars" as much this season so I'm a little bit less interested than usual. But the routines from the best performers are still amazing and enjoyable, I just fast forward through a lot when I'm losing interest.

What I'm reading:
I just finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and it was very entertaining from beginning to end. I'm about to start Little Fires Everywhere. Both were frequently recommended in the book linkup I join with my book reviews every month so I'm hoping "Little Fires" will live up to "Evelyn!"

What I'm listening to:
I'm currently listening to The Obesity Code on Audible. So far it's very interesting and may or may not have influenced my decision to reduce sugar intake. Full reviews for this along with the fiction books I discussed above will be in my November Book Reviews, coming up on November 14.

What I'm doing this weekend:
Let's see...dinner with friends on Friday, Halloween Party for the kids scheduled on Saturday, relax a little on Sunday and hopefully it cools down enough by then for an evening walk!

Well, nothing super exciting this month but that's life most of the time. I'll take "not super exciting" over "real problems" just about any day! Hope you had a great October and see you back on Friday!

  1. I need to start doing these again, I love this and I cannot workout this week so I'm super paranoid about what I'm eating. I tried going on walks so far but I'm still pretty drowsy, I'll pick up the obesity code. I gave up alcohol for two weeks now and I need to be better about cutting sugar. Your photos are so much better I see the improvement as well. I see a hint on blurriness in them, one easy tip is to tell the photographer to not lift his finger from the shutter until after the pic is taken to avoid subtle camera shakes while the pic is being taken.


    1. Yeah, we're still not quite getting 100% in focus pictures, which is especially more obvious when I'm zooming to edit. Thank you for the tip! I might even consider getting a tripod for them to manage. We'll see. Saw your IG story and am glad you're enjoying The Obesity Code as much as I am!

  2. Love the side tie top! I could’ve used the long sleeve version today in Florida we finally got a mini cold front. Also “Better Call Saul” is amazing! Such a good show and I can’t wait for season 4 either. Have a great Wednesday Gina :)

    1. Yay, glad to find another fan of the show! I didn't think I could like it as much as Breaking Bad but I do! They're different but both so great.

  3. Ha! That's funny about the booties and the concert because I'm pretty sure I've worn my flat buckle booties to see Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, AND Garth Brooks! They're a great edgy piece but manageable to be standing and dancing for three hours which is why I think I always turn to them! And that top is really cute!

    1. I'm pretty sure "concerts" for these boots came to mind because of you more than anything. You've probably been to more than anyone I know! Maybe now that I have the right shoes I can start going to more concerts! LOL!

    1. Thank you so much! It's a bit of a splurge but my very favorite brand for denim jackets. They fit perfectly (for me!) and are soft and comfortable with a nice amount of stretch so they're easy to move in.

  6. I've been trying to reduce sugar intake for years and it's SO hard! Good luck to you! I love that side tie tank top! It's such a fun detail while still being a versatile top since you can easily layer it under things. Very cute!

    1. I'm long overdue for sugar reduction and you're right, it's so challenging. Less than a week into this decision and I'm already regretting it! LOL!

  7. First, I absolutely love the detail on your tank! Tanks and camisoles can get boring but I'm loving that little details like lace, ties, and ruching are being added to mix things up! And second, your photos have been perfect! I know we need to schedule another session but it doesn't seem like you need me lol! The boys are doing so well :)

    1. Yes, bonus points that this one is comfortable and allows me to wear a regular bra! And I still love getting together with you for pics, too! It's nice to go with a friend to chat, not to mention we can explore a little more than I can with the kids.

    I wanted to recommend Trim Healthy Mama, just do a search for it on pinterest and there are so many sugar-free treat recipes that are pretty good. A lot of them use stevia or sweet blends that some people may not like, but a year into it and I have no complaints. Good luck and many blessings!

  13. I think your kids are doing a great job, my husband is my photographer and he has a lot to learn lol. I try to add a bit of editing. Try Gimbo, it has a steep learning curve but its free.

  14. i do the same thing with sugar! i just pretend it's not that bad. i know it is. but like (ugh i just commented on your post about the over usage of like, but i am leaving it there), i don't know where to start?! it's so overwhelming.
    i adored Evelyn so i'm glad you did too! little fires everywhere is on my shelf at home, so hopefully i will get to it soon.. before the end of the year.
    The Obesity Code sounds interesting, and of course, terrifying haha.
