Grey Duster Cardigan + Friday Favorites

|
Awhile back I moved my blogging desk upstairs, and since then I've enjoyed being near a window with access to fresh air and natural light. It's also right next to the laundry room, which is normally convenient since I'm always doing laundry and I can switch loads as soon as they're done. It's less convenient now that my washing machine has been broken for two weeks. The part needed for the repair is finally in and the repair people are fixing it as I type, but it really sounds like they're just taking a hammer to that machine and they have to keep coming in and out of the room where I'm blogging (since they set some of the parts in here), with a direct line of sight to my selfie-filled computer screen! As awkward as this is, I'm trying not to complain or worry about what they're thinking because at least the repair is happening.

Anyway, enough of my washing machine woes. I promised I'd be featuring a few more of my "basic staples" from Abercrombie (see my first piece here and $10 striped peplum cami here and this grey duster is one of those pieces.

Duster: Abercrombie | Tee: Express | Jeans: Express | Shoes: Amazon (Similar in "Sesame") | Necklace: Kendra Scott | Bag: Amazon

Details:

This duster is just perfect. It ran true to size for me and is a perfect weight for moderate Spring days. At first I thought it looked a little heavy for Spring but the open stitching allows for quite a lot of ventilation (I guess that's the right word here). It ran true to size for me and is a great price at $35, but there's also a promo code on the website over the weekend for an additional discount plus free shipping on orders of $50 or more, so it might be worth getting both this and the oatmeal color ...which I also snagged and you'll see in an outfit on Monday.

All of the other pieces in this outfit are "old news" around here, but everything I'm wearing ran true to size for me with no surprises or particular issues to note.

Friday Favorites:
I have a random assortment of things to share today for Friday Favorites, starting with a couple of Trader Joe's picks. I've shared some of my Trader Joe's favorites in the past (easy appetizers, sweets, other ) but I've had some recent success with new things I've tried lately so I wanted to share those today.

Trader Joe's Soft & Juicy Mandarin:

I've been eating Trader Joe's Soft & Juicy Mango for quite awhile but once I went in store to stock up and they were sold out. So I opted for these Mandarins instead since it seemed like the best alternate option available in store. I don't even like regular mandarins that much, but these are good! Now I have to keep both these and the mangoes in stock at home.

Coffee Squares:
If you like coffee and chocolate...well, you just have to try these. I'm not a huge fan of dark chocolate on its own (I like it sometimes but am pretty particular) but this flavor blend is just right. Perfect for a small, post-meal treat when you want something sweet but not a giant calorie bomb dessert.

Favorite Songs:

I've had a couple of songs on repeat this week. First is Imagine Dragons latest, "Believer." I think I heard on the radio that it's going to be in a movie coming out so I'll probably get sick of it by the time summer rolls around. But for now, I'm into it.

Second, this remake of Britney's "...Baby One More Time" by Tove Styrke. The beat is more dark than the original, but equally catchy, with some funky techno added into the mix (after the second chorus and bridge). I can't stop listening to it.

Favorite Dances:

This week on Dancing with the Stars, Derek and Julianne Hough performed a feature duet (watch it here, inspired by their parents divorce) that was very powerful and just physically amazing. But their mom was in the audience watching and I couldn't help wondering if that wasn't extremely awkward for her?

As for the competitors, I loved Heather and Alan's tango to "Toxic" (watch it here) and Normani and Val's Foxtrot to "Big Spender" (here).

* * *

Well hooray! It only took 30 minutes to install the part and my washing machine is now fully functional! I've never been this excited to do laundry in my life!

This weekend I won't be doing an Outfit Recap/Outfit Singles post. Not just because I need to get caught up on laundry, but I am planning to go out of town for Spring Break next week (although that may change last minute depending on the weather...blah) so I'll use the "extra" outfits that usually go in my weekend posts to fill my normal M/W/F schedule next week. Have a great weekend!

  4. I am so happy for you that your washing machine is finally fixed. I really am. During our move, I had to go three days without doing laundry and I thought I was going to go crazy. I also envy you for being able to laundry during the day. That is the no 1 reason I'm always on the lookout for a work-at-home job---so that I can do laundry during the day. Well, that and so I can wear yoga pants and hoodies every day, but you don't do that. As usual, love the outfit. Were you able to catch Kate's R&F review on instastories?

    1. I wasn't! I checked her insta story the minute I saw your message but it was already gone. I'm willing to take your word that she said it damaged her lashes though because it saves me a lot of money! Ha!

    1. I'm getting used to going in there like a boss. Haha. And honestly the staff has been very friendly. I expected to get treated like, "why are you in here old lady?" but nope! They treat me like they want my business. Will keep you posted on the travel!

  9. Living in an apartment for what felt like an eternity makes me appreciate having a washer and dryer like whoa! I don't know how you did it for two weeks with a family full of stuff to maintain! You deserve retail therapy! Also - I love that duster on you. It does look like the perfect cover up for spring. And I need to google the two songs you mentioned! I'm not sure I've heard either, but I trust that they are great!

  10. Yay for repairs! I'm glad you have a working washer again. I really like that cardigan. It is a perfect spring staple. And I will have to try the mandarians and mangos. I was looking for dried fruit to take on an upcoming trip. Have a great time on Spring Break!
