The Lifeless Outfits

|
January's not quite over yet, and somehow I still have some New Year momentum going. First I was cleaning out my closet and making resolutions, and finally I've gotten on to the really important stuff like organizing my Pinterest boards. In the process of deleting looks that no longer inspire me I stumbled across a few looks I meant to try. I especially like to test out lifeless outfit sets to see if they work on a human, so I ran a few experiments this weekend.

As soon as I put this outfit on, I realized it reminded me of one I've featured here a lot by Skye! (Far right image). I remembered that she wore a cognac belt with hers so I added that, but I wish I had also copied her on the necklace to add some color!

Cardigan: Express (40% off right now) / Portofino Shirt: ExpressJeans: Express (Similar) / Belt: Gap  / Booties: Target

Original Pin: Here
I think part of what makes the original set cool are the details like the hat and loafers, which I don't have. But it's still a simple, put-together look with wardrobe staples.
White Blouse: Express (Colors Vary) / Black Skinnies: ExpressShoes: Sole Society

Original Pin: Here
This outfit made me so happy because my Navy Barcelona Cami has not been worn in over six months because I could not find an outfit that worked! But this one was a definite winner for me:

Cardigan: Express (40% off right now) / Barcelona Cami: Express (Royal Purple) / White Jeans: Express / Shoes: Sole Society

So not only do I feel like my Pinterest boards are more organized now, I just found myself three new outfits without buying a single thing. It's probably something I should do a little more often!

  1. So impressed you still have momentum going. I love cleaning out my closet. I always feels so good! I try to clean out a little every time I bring new clothes home. It keeps it from getting overwhelming. My Pinterest was such a mess! It's totally where I go for inspiration though. Love what you came up with! That tan cardigan fits you so well!

  6. Great re-created looks! I'm always pinning outfits without an actual human modeling them and I forget to try them myself. I love every one of yours!

  9. I really need to organize my pinterest boards too! I have one inspiration board that should really be separated into seasons. When you're done with yours, please do mine. Hehe
Thanks for the added inspo on the neutral cardi! I love it! And may be able to work this in my remix challenge. Pinterest def makes you feel like you are shopping when you're not!

  11. Goodness, kudos to you for taking the time to organize your boards!!! I should remember to try and work on that while the I'm a passenger in a car - seems like a good time to slowly work on that task! And the bonus will be being inspired like you along the way!! Love the blue cami and the outfit set with the coated black jeans - those are still on my perpetual wish list! :-)

  13. You are so inspiring! I should do the same because buying new stuff right now is a little silly for me. I need to make my closet work for me a little bit better! I love those leopard flats! They really do go with everything!

  14. I am so bad at using my Pinterest to it's fullest potentail. I pin a ton of things and rarely use it when it relates to outfits. I do use the recipes that I pin a lot. Love all the outfits you've recreated. I actually did find use a Pin inspired outfit on the blog today too.

  15. I love your line "to see what it looks like on a human". So funny, and a great idea too. I use Pinterest to help me plan my outfits and so often I have found it looks great in the picture, or great on someone else, but not on me.

  16. I like that you actually tried those looks out and they look cute!!

  17. love this idea - i created a bunch of outfits on polyvore for my trip to Aus and then tried them all on.. some things work better on polyvore than a real person! i especially love how you paired the cami with the cardi. meanwhile, how does your voile tunic looks so pretty and perfect? i am wearing mine today and it looks like i've had it for 10 years. do i wash things wrong? i ask you this because you are a mom and mom's know how to fix things. also, i have tried almost everything to get a stain out of my white nordstrom striped top but it won't come out! help? haha.

    1. LOL, with the Voile Tunic, I just wash it on gentle with Woolite then hang dry. So far so good. As for stains...ugh. I have a teeny one on my white London sweater that I can't get out. I've tried Shout and Clorox bleach pen (those usually work for me) and no luck yet so maybe someone else can chime in with an amazing solution!

  18. I really like the navy, yellow, and white outfit. Adding the leopard just made everything perfect.

My Pinterest was started a while, and I have a good amount of follower, but I just don't use it much. Need to see if I can start on it again.

  20. I tried once to layer a button down with a cardigan and the result was disastrous! I have bulges everywhere and I kept pulling on my clothes and it made me feel so uncomfortable. I wonder how you did it?

  21. I am impressed by your motivation to keep organizing! I definitely need to tackle my pinterest boards, there are some very outdated things on there haha! Love the navy and white look!

  22. Very nice! I love them all, but numbers 2 and 3 are gorgeous! I love how simple they are and yet so put together. I'll have to try this Gina! I've been so uninspired lately when it comes to my own clothes. That's bad, because then I'm tempted to buy new things to fill the void!

Omg I have been wearing my white one like it's about to be stolen off my back lol! I need to buy some more colors, it's seriously the greatest cami I've ever worn!

Sorry I've been so mia lately. I've been such a bad blogger this month ;(

I think you'd look so cute with the black hat in the black and white look. I need to give my close the once over again. Just last night I saw a few things that I don't really care to wear anymore! Happy Monday!

  31. I love that you call these lifeless outfits. I've never thought of them like that before ... ha ha. I need to do a bit of Pinterest board organizing, too, but I'm not sure I want to go there;) A little out of control.

  32. When I read the title of your post, I thought you were being hard on yourself and calling your outfits themselves "lifeless" LOL! I have so many outfits pinned with grand ideas in my head of how they can work in my closet. I hate it when the collage (or lifeless haha) outfit looks much better in 2-D. I really love the brown belt with the cardigan in the first outfit. It's amazing how an accessory can change the whole tone.
