I'm a Barbie Girl

|
As a child, Barbie was a major player in my toy collection. Peaches and Cream Barbie, Day to Night Barbie, and Barbie and the Rockers Barbie were a few of my favorites:

Fast forward 30+ years, and I'm re-kindling my love for Barbie in a totally different way. I stumbled on the @BarbieStyle Instagram account and I'm hooked! It's cute and hilarious with surprisingly wearable outfit ideas. There were so many great looks that I had to ask Carylee to collaborate with me and do a few re-creations of her own, especially after I kept seeing Barbie wear so many pieces similar to hers. So be sure to go check out her looks here!

Blue on blue with pops of yellow and pink...we girls, can do anything. Right, Barbie?

I don't have a lot to say about this outfit except I wouldn't have thought to put these pieces together on my own but I loved it!

Blue Button Down: Express / Jeans: Express (Similar) / Sandals: Jessica Simpson (Option) / Bag: Jessica Simpson Megan

Stripes, moto jacket, plum shorts...life in plastic, it's fantastic!

I was on my own for shoe selection with this one since Barbie didn't take a full body photo. And after putting everything on, I felt seasonally confused. (Upper body too warm with the sweater and jacket, legs too cold in shorts!) So I tried it again with pants for the win:
Striped Sweater: Express (Similar) / Moto Jacket: Express / Shorts: J. Crew / Plum Skinnies: Express / Grey Booties: Express

Bomber jacket, mini skirt, leopard bag...come on Barbie, let's go party!

Once again I was left to my own devices for shoe selection and I hope Barbie would approve of the burgundy booties I chose:
Moto Jacket: Express / Barcelona Cami: Express / Skirt: Express (Similar) / Leopard Clutch: Express Booties: Old Navy

Well I have a confession to make. I said I've only recently started getting outfit ideas from Barbie, but that's not entirely true. I actually started copying her outfits a long time ago. I pulled this from my ancient history album and yes, that's really me rocking the Western Barbie look. What can I say? I'm a Barbie Girl!

  10. How did I not know about this Barbie Instagram?!? I was obsessed with Barbies until I was like 13 and now I'm thrilled that my daughter, Laila, also loves them. My favorite things was playing store - setting up all of the clothes and shoes and then having Barbie friends shop. I started early. And Gina - that western Barbie outfit!!!! This is so great and totally made me smile.

  37. Love this post sooo much! Am obsessed with Peaches n Cream barbie and wished I picked up the reissued version when it came out. The funny thing is - I never really "played" with barbies - I always just liked getting them dressed up and getting their hair just right LOL! My daughter LOVES playing with her barbies and recreates movies & storybooks with them - she can play with them for hours...and I like coming in and fixing their clothes & hair - so we get along perfectly :-)
