Eyelet Wrap Dress + Currently

|
Last month I did a little Amazon Dress Haul where I tried nine dresses and found just two worth keeping. I shared my first keeper and very favorite last week, and today I'm finishing up with this black eyelet wrap dress. I was worried that because I chose the black color (it also comes in Red & White), this would be difficult to photograph and capture all the details from the eyelet pattern to the ruffles...and it turns out I was right. The more I tried to brighten the photos to show the dress detail, the more ghostly I looked! I was never completely happy with the balance but I'm sharing it anyway because it's a great dress for real life, even if it's a challenge for an amateur photographer and photo editor!
Dress (c/o)| Necklace | Sandals | Earrings | Handbag (c/o) [Budget]

This dress is true to size and runs XXS-XXXL, so it has a pretty good variety of sizing options.  It's a a full wrap style, so it opens up in the front completely like a bathrobe. Sometimes with wrap styles they can be pinned in the front to keep them secured, but this one comes down very deep on me and no amount of pinning will correct that so a cami is mandatory. I generally try to avoid that, but I liked this dress enough to keep it and just wear a matching cami. I'm wearing a regular Target cami with it here, but I just bought this $14 wirefree bra cami to wear with it next time. It's a shorter length, plus it's a bra + cami in one, so I think that will be a bit more convenient and comfortable going forward.

I think my top view selfie does a better job of showing the eyelet and ruffle wrap detail on this dress, so I'll drop that view back in here to give you the close up details on this:

I really wanted a dress that didn't give off an "office/workwear" vibe, but was still nicer than a t-shirt dress and had sleeves so I didn't need a jacket or cardigan to wear it to things like doctor's appointments where it's always cold. That proved to be very challenging! Most were too short or too frilly for my liking. This seemed like a nice in-between. I wasn't too sure about the puffy sleeves when I ordered it, but they didn't seem too dramatic in real life so I was okay with them throughout the day. Then it came to photo time, and taking photos of an outfit can often make or break things I'm on the fence about! It's hard to explain, but it's almost like I'm not looking at myself- just an outfit on another person. In this case I barely noticed the sleeves so that made me feel a lot more comfortable wearing it again in real life.

I should also mention I'm 5'4", so that might help you gauge how the length will be on you. And that's a wrap (pun intended!) for the details on this dress! Time to move on to Currently...September  Edition!

It's the first Wednesday of the month so I'm joining Anne for her "Currently" link up. She provides the creative prompts for this, and today's participants are sharing what we're currently making, taking, discovering, consuming, and saving.

MAKING...an early fall wish list. It's still hot here so I won't be buying any sweaters or jeans, but I am on the lookout for pieces that have fall elements but still work in a warm climate.
One: Ramy Brook (Aviva) | Two:  Sam Edelman (Hilty)| Three:  Sol Sana (Bruno) | Four:  Rails (Jasmine)

One: Rust Blouse. I added a couple of rust pieces to my summer wardrobe and they ended up being making my top eight summer favorites. I'd love a blouse in this color to wear this fall! This splurge option by Ramy Brook is gorgeous and just the right color, but I'll keep looking for a more budget friendly option with sleeves. (Though I love how they paired the top with the coordinated skirt for a faux dress look here!)

Two & Three: Ankle Boots to wear with Skirts and Dresses. While I have black and taupe ankle boots, my current options aren't really fitted enough at the ankle to pair nicely with bare legs. These options by Sam Edelman and Sol Sana would be ideal!

Four: Transition Dresses. After trying nine dresses in August I only ended up keeping two! I would still like one more lightweight transitional dress with long sleeves. I love this option by Rails. Animal print is going strong for fall, and this incorporates that trend in a subdued way, which I love!

TAKING...A couple of bags to Goodwill this week. Over Labor Day weekend I went through my closet and parted ways with summer pieces that just didn't get used or I just didn't love any more this year. I focused only on looking at summer clothes and shoes. If I try to do my entire closet I get overwhelmed, or I just can't get myself to part with pieces that I think I might use in the upcoming season. Whereas when a season is ending, I have an easier time letting go by telling myself, "I didn't wear this all summer...I don't need to hang onto it for another year to see if I will use it next summer."

DISCOVERING...that my sister-in-law listens to her audiobooks on 2.5 Speed. This Blew. My. Mind. I usually listen on normal speed. I couldn't comprehend processing the information that quickly, but she assured me your brain adapts! I bumped up my current read (Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb) to 1.25 and I am adapting, but holy cow. I can't imagine going twice as fast as this!!!

CONSUMING...Homemade Wonderful Bread from Allrecipes. I usually make Wheat Bread but we had my nephew and his friend in town a couple of weeks ago so I wanted to have some white bread on hand too in case they preferred that. I forgot how delicious a simple piece of homemade white bread could be! If you make it, read a few reviews first. I agreed with the reviewers that said it needed a little more liquid.

SAVING...up a list of my favorites this week to share on Friday. I hope you'll stop by on Friday and check it out!

  1. Love that cute Rails dress. Rails makes so many great styles, pricey though.

  2. I love Rails clothing. The detailing on your wrap dress just takes it up a notch in cuteness. So very darling! Holy fast listener, I wonder if I could do that with audio? Probably not, I’d miss something, lol. Can’t wait for your Friday Favorites!!

    1. OMG, I sooooo agree with you. I do think video dominates right now but I still prefer blogging. As a content creator AND consumer! I know I'm in the minority but I think/hope there are still a few of us!

  5. The top view selfie does a great job to show the eyelet detail. Black is such a tough color to photograph. It amazes me some of the photos people take - it takes so much practice - and just the right amount of light. I love the rust color - I am adding more of it into my fall rotation. I really want to style it with grey jeans. I hope you have a great Wednesday!

  6. What a cute dress! i find black things so hard to photograph too but you did a great job in the selfie shot! :)

I've heard people watch videos on youtube at double speed, but never heard it with audio books before! I can't imagine being able to take thins in that quickly, haha! I can read pretty fast but think I'd lose concentration if I tried to listen at double speed!

Thank you for the link up!

Hope that your week is going well :)

  9. This dress has so many nice details, I can see why you were drawn to it. I know what you mean about photographing black--to get details I've lightened the photos so much, black started to look green...

  10. What a sweet little dress! The thought of an audio book on 2.5 made me laugh. It's probably like being read to by the chipmunks. HAHAHA! I actually listen to a lot of my Marco Polo message on 2, so I'm sure it's similar. Love your wishlist. The SE booties are like the tall boots (I just returned yesterday) I might light that version better. Have a great day!

  14. I love the black eyelet dress! Eyelet is so fun and the darker color makes it easier to transition for fall. The Rails dress is a gorgeous pick too!

  15. Cute! I agree it's sometimes hard to find a balance of a dress that's not "professional" but also not as entirely casual as a cotton t-dress. And yes, so smart to do the closet cleanout seasonally. I've only had time to just pull a couple of random things but am kind of itching to get in there and really fully evaluate the summer stuff - especially now that the weather has decided to turn cooler (which I am not ready for!!).

  16. Ahh, that is the thing with black- super hard to photograph details unless you blow it out! I love the top-view photo; shows off those cute eyelet details perfectly!

  17. So much good in one post! First, I love the wrap dress on you! It's versatile enough to wear practically anywhere and the fact that it's black makes it appropriate year-round. I love wrap styles but agree that they can be a bit cumbersome so a thin cami underneath is perfect!

And I really want those black boots! Just added it to my current wishlist :)
