Summer Favorites Recap

Well it's the final Friday of August, and even though the weather will be warm here for awhile, it definitely feels like the seasons are changing. The kids are back in school, it gets dark a little earlier, and the nights are a little cooler. I can even see some slight changes in the colors of the leaves! I'll start incorporating more transition weather outfit styling options on the blog in September, but I want to enjoy every last minute of summer to the fullest so today it's just a 100% summer outfit and recapping some of my best selections of summer for Friday Favorites with ErikaAndrea, and Narci,

This top definitely makes my list of top five summer purchases. I also have the striped version (I'll share that below), and although I styled them practically the same way, I still liked having both options so I didn't have to wear the exact same top every time I wanted something with a little more oomph than my basic tees and tanks. I'm not sure if the volume on the bottom of this top will play well with cardigans or jackets since I haven't tried that myself yet, but I really hope it does! It will be money very well spent if I can make this work for more than one season.

Most everything else I'm wearing is "old" from several summers ago, from my hat (from Target) to my shoes (Sam Edelman Sutton, sold out everywhere) to my jean shorts (J. Crew Factory, but none of their current styles are similar to these at all) and even my exact Stella & Dot necklace is long gone. As always I try to find similar current options, but now and then I just can't find anything I feel comfortable even calling "Similar." For me personally this is great because it means the items I bought were solid purchases that stood the test of time! For you all as readers I know that can be frustrating, and until I started blogging I didn't realize just how quickly things go out of stock at stores and how hard it is to share "current" fashions! But since I'm really trying to shift my focus (personally and blog-wise) to pieces that stand the test of time, that has definitely translated into a lot more "similar" links over the past year. I guess what I'm trying to say is I really do appreciate those of you who still visit my blog anyway despite the fact that it's not an "everything all new and all in stock" situation here, and I hope you'll have a little grace with me on my selection and linking of similar items!

I'm joining Erika, Andrea, and Narci for Friday Favorites, and keeping with my theme of Summer Favorites today. Here are my other Summer fashion selections that truly ended up being put to good use!

1. AE Peplum Top: I'll count this top as one favorite since it's one item, even though I have it in two colors. Here's a look back at the striped version of this top:

I don't own many tops from AE/Aerie except for their henley tanks, and I wear a Small in those but took an XS in this, so I think it runs pretty similar to most tops from LOFT or Express. Here's another way I wore this top for date night:
Top | Jeans | Sandals | Necklace

2. Laser Cut Sandals: These laser cut sandals were my best shoe choice this summer! The heel is not too high so they're easy to walk in, and for my skin tone they're the perfect "nude" shade so they easily match with just about everything!

RIGHTJacket (Similar for less) | Similar Cami | Skirt (c/o) | Sandals (c/o) | Necklace | Earrings | Handbag (c/o Shopbop) [Budget Option] (Original Post HERE)

3. Rust Tiered Skirt: This was such a fun piece to have this summer. It's as easy to throw on with a basic tee or tank, but the color and tiered layer styling add some extra fun to an outfit without a lot of fuss. You can see the front view and length on this directly above (I'm 5'4" for reference), but I here's how I ended up wearing it most of the time.

A lot of times I'll repeat an outfit exactly how I shared it on the blog rather than trying to come up with a new way to wear an item. I just don't bother to keep re-taking a new photo every time!

4. Rust Henley Tank: Since we're talking summer favorites, this rust color in general was a new favorite for me. I haven't owned many pieces in this color in the past but it's really growing on me. And I'm positive it will work well straight into fall! For the outfit below, I can easily swap out my denim skirt + sandals for jeans and ankle boots.

Rust pairs nicely with black and white too, which is great for me since those are staple colors in my wardrobe:
Cardigan | Tank | Shorts | Sandals (c/o) | Handbag (c/o) [Budget Option]

5-6. Chambray Jacket + Sweatshirt Skirt: I have two favorites in this next outfit so I'm listing them together. And I didn't list my favorites in order from most to least, but if I had, this chambray jacket would probably be #1. It was great for travel and softer and lighter weight than a denim jacket, making it better for summer months.
Jacket (c/o) [More Sizes Here] | Tank | Skirt (c/o)| Necklace | Earrings | Handbag (c/o) |  Sandals (c/o)

I wore it with joggers for my summer vacation travel outfit and it was the perfect layer for the airport and airplane.

The sweatshirt skirt is nothing fancy, but it was nice to have as a casual option for something in between shorts and pants. It pairs easily with just about any tee or tank.

It's not a super fancy piece that will get you compliments, but it's a low-fuss, comfortable piece that makes it very easy to get dressed and out the door!

7. Express Date Night Top: I've only worn this top out for date night once so I'm pushing it with the "Favorite" term since I usually like to reserve that for things I've used a lot, but this piece really does stand out for me as a new favorite. Plus, it's under $25 this weekend for the Express Labor Day Sale!

I love the cut and color on this! The only reason I haven't worn it more often is because I haven't had it long enough. We only do a date night about once per week, so it's not as easy for me to put this into my everyday outfit rotation and wear it more often. It might be a bit much for my usual activities like trips to Target or Back to School night, know what I mean?

8. Fleece Shorts: On the opposite end of the dressy-casual spectrum from date night, these fleece shorts were my favorite summer lounge wear purchase. They're just so soft! I wear these at home several times a week, and I ended up getting them in burgundy too so I can have a backup pair to wear when the pink ones are in the wash.
T-Shirt | Shorts (c/o) | Necklace | Earrings | Sandals (c/o)

The pink pair ran a little on the roomy side, but the burgundy was more true to size, so there seems to be a little size variation between colors, but not so much that I recommend getting anything other than your normal size.

I was originally planning to make this a list of Five Summer Favorites, but then there were a few more things I just couldn't leave out! Then I thought...okay, no problem...I'll just make it ten! But once I got to eight I felt like anything beyond this list wasn't truly a standout favorite, and I didn't want to add more items just to make it a list of ten. So I'm sticking with the title of the old TV show and saying, Eight is Enough!

  1. Really impressive & helpful blog for me, I was searching this kind of information from a long time. Thanks for help me.

  2. All your tops are precious and super versatile. Have the sweetest, long weekend beautiful! xo

  3. I just love that AE top you have in both colors. I would love to have the striped one - I keep checking but I think it is long gone - boo! Looks great on you!
I am finding myself having to link more "similar" items as well. I think it's a good thing overall because that is real life and as long as there's something similar out there it's all good for our followers.
    Have a great weekend Gina!

  4. So many cute summer outfits! I can see why you have the peplum tank twice - it's nice in navy and in stripes! I just added another peplum tee to my wardrobe, I love the style! :)

Hope that you have a nice weekend ahead of you :)

  5. I love your henley tank, I want one in bodysuit form.

  6. That rust skirt is still my favorite. I love the color paired with black. I didn't really shop at AE either until this year - and I got some great pieces. I was so surprised. They make one of my favorite tanks. I agree finding pieces that last for a few seasons - is how I am trying to shop. I hope you have a wonderful long weekend.

  7. I always like to see a list of favorites (I'm planning on doing mine next week 😉.) I know what you mean about items selling out, while it makes sense, sometimes the item is so basic it's like "what the heck?". Ha! I tried to get an AE peplum top, but they sold out before I could get one!

  8. You always look absolutely precious!!!

  9. Such beautiful looks, love each one of these, and the rust colored skirt is sooo gorgeous!

  10. Those fleece shorts are really cute and ever since I saw them on you I've had them on my amazon wishlist! I love your tiered skirt too! This was a really fun recap!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! I sincerely appreciate each and every one and always do my best to answer questions promptly!
