Grey Lightweight Jacket + June Update

|
It's the last Wednesday of the month, which means it's time for a monthly update! I think March is the month that has the tagline, "In like a lion, out like a lamb." Maybe that's true in terms of weather some places but that would accurately describe June life for me. The month started with end of the school year chaos and ended with the relaxing, happy pace of summer! As usual I'll be answering any of the these prompt questions that apply to me, starting with what I'm wearing. The answer to that is simple: all of my favorite lightweight jackets as much as possible before it gets too hot!

This BB Dakota jacket is true to size, nice and lightweight. I expect I'll still grab it now and then in the hotter months when I need a layer for indoor A/C. It's a great piece for dressing up, down, or everything in between! I shared it in early May in a more dressy/business casual outfit, so here's a side-by-side of my dress it down vs.  dress it up options for this piece:
RIGHT: Jacket (c/o) | Similar Cami | Black Jeans  Similar Necklace | EarringsShoes (c/o) | Handbag (c/o)

As far as the other items in today's summertime casual outfit, most of the exact items are old or sold out so I could only link to similar options. I'm wearing a Small in the Gap tank, which is standard for me in this type of fitted tank

That's it for "What I'm Wearing," so here are the rest of the What's Up Wednesday prompts I'm answering this month!

What I'm eating this week: Against my better judgment, I bought a bag of English Toffee Peanut M&Ms after Lisa posted about them. They're pretty good, though it's an exaggeration to say I'm eating them "this week" since the small bag I bought lasted exactly one day. Ha!

What I'm reminiscing about: Last weekend we got to spend the longest day of the year with our long lost BFF neighbors! They moved away two years ago and came in town for work/play and it was so great to reminisce about the good ol' days, catch up on life, and laugh so hard we cried. There's a quote that Andy from The Office said that I just love, "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." So true! I don't think we realized at the time just how lucky we were to have good friends live so close. It just hasn't been the same here since they left, but I was glad for a fun reunion.

What I'm Loving: Skirts for transition weather! I know it's technically summer now but our weather definitely says Transition, and skirts have been perfect for a lot of in-between days. I have a couple of new-to-me options that I'll feature with full length photos in upcoming posts, but why not preview now while they're still in stock and you have plenty of summer days left to wear them?

First is this sweatshirt skirt! I posted this on a wishlist post awhile back and finally ordered it
Jacket (c/o) | Necklace | Similar Tank | Skirt (c/o) | Sandals (c/o)

The skirt is true to size and as expected given that it's a sweatshirt skirt, very comfortable!

Second is the rust/orange tiered skirt. This color is trending strong this summer and it's outside my normal color palette preference zone...but I like it! It's a fun, affordable summer piece.
And finally, I've already shared my denim skirt (first posted here), but it's still on repeat:

What I've been up to: I think I can sum this up in six ways: Work, Family, Blogging, Reading, Date Nights and Dance Classes.

What I'm working on: Hm, I don't really have any big side projects going on right now. I'm pretty content with what's on my plate right now. One thing I would like to work on is doing a better job of tracking my reading recommendations. When I save books to my To-Be-Read (TBR) list, I usually just add them to an Amazon list and by the time I read them, I can't remember the source of the recommendation. I would just be curious to know if I have a few Top Book Recommenders or if it's all over the place!

What I'm listening to: Podcasts and Audiobooks all day, everyday. I tend to have Podcasts on while I'm working so I don't have to pay complete attention to plot points, audiobooks when I'm doing hands-on tasks like laundry, hair and makeup where my mind can still focus on the words. Lately I'm really into podcasts about books, especially Sarah's Book Shelves podcast favorites and I just started listening to Amazon Book Review Podcast. So far I'm enjoying that and my current audiobook (below) was a recommendation from that Podcast!

What I'm reading: I'm listening to City of Girls on Audible and enjoying it so far. I tend to enjoy with this type of character-driven, storytelling novel on audio. I'm also reading According to a Source on Kindle, which is a gossip-y novel about Hollywood. It's okay for a summer read but not likely to get a "Recommend" rating from me.

What I'm excited about: Sorry (not sorry) to be so book-focused here, but I'm excited about having such a great TBR list thanks to the bookish bloggers who joined me in sharing their list of Page Turners to read this Summer. No more wondering, "what should I read next?" for quite some time!

What I'm watching: I'm still slowly but surely making my way through Peaky Blinders. I think I've only watched one or two more episodes since last month! We only end up watching about one episode per week so it's pretty slow going. If you decide to give the show a try, I would say give it three episodes before you decide to keep going or drop it. After that you should know whether it's going to grab your interest or not.

What I'm looking forward to next month: Nothing in particular except Every. Single. Day. It's summer and I want to soak it up and enjoy it!

That sums up the latest from here! Can't wait to hear what you all have been up to lately!

  1. I'm so jealous of your weather. It is so hot here there's no jacket required. The heat is insane and every year we all say the same thing - "It's never been this hot before." The heat is just oppressive.
I really like the tiered skirt! The color and shape are fun, I'm glad you gave it a try because you have the perfect shape for it!
I've yet to watch Peaky Blinders. We finished Imposters (so good) and now we're watching the latest season of Outlander.
Funny about the M&M's - I've been searching all over for them and can't find them anywhere! Could be a blessing in disguise!

  2. So glad you had a wonderful time with your neighbors! Love all of your skirt inspiration! The rust tiered skirt is really cute! I agree with Kellyann about the M&M's - I can't find them here either and am sure I would eat the entire bag in one day!

  6. I really like your idea of wearing lightweight jackets with shorts. It's one look that I don't think I've tried, yet. As much as I've watched the office, I don't remember Andy's quote, a bit heartrending for sure! I need to start making a list of TBR, as I need some new input at this point!

  7. We've been having some pretty warm days, and I'm not mad about it. You know I love me some hot weather. I'm glad you found the M&M's and liked them. I bought the Coconut yesterday to try, but it was low carb day, so I didn't tear into them. Maybe Kent and I will eat them tonight. I think that rust skirt is just the cutest!!! XOXO

  8. I love that jacket! Drapey jackets are my favorite to make an outfit look even more polished and this one is such a great neutral. Also loving the flowy little skirt in that rust color that I'm seeing (and loving) everywhere! I'd really like to add one to my closet this Summer because as we discussed in texts, I'm not much into shorts.

That's so awesome that you got to reunite with your ex-neighbors! I know you've spoken highly of them! I hope you guys had a wonderful time :)

  9. That orange skirt is really cute! I can't wait to see it full length on you! The English Toffee M&Ms sound SO good and I just know I am going to give in at the store one of these days! I doubt they will last a day at our house either!

  10. Our summer weather finally hit! So, I am so excited to finally break out "summer clothes"! That tiered rust skirt is so cute on you! I hope you are having a great week - and enjoying summer as much as you can. So glad you got to spend time with your good friends. I know - why do people have to move away.

  13. You are so lucky to get on with your neighbours, we had lovely ones in our previous two houses, but where we are now they are so rude, ignorant and not very nice at all - that's not all of them but most! Thanks for sharing today. Jacqui Mummabstylish
