Everyday Outfits + Friday Four 11/2/18

|
I hope you all had a nice Halloween! I waited until the last minute to buy candy and our Target was almost entirely cleaned out! But I found some Butterfinger bags stuck in a corner so I wasn't forced to be that family giving out raisins or toothbrushes or whatever it is that infuriates kids on Halloween. Other than that it was a pretty average week! Here are a few outfits from the past week with some notes on fit, sizing, etc.

ONE: Like all items from this brand, this turtleneck tends to run a bit small or just very fitted. I'm wearing a Small and it's essentially a bodycon turtleneck. Next time I wear this I'll want a layer over top, but what I love about it is the tulip hem in front! No front tuck necessary at all so it's completely low fuss, and it's perfect showing off your belt buckle. This is $30, also comes in black and is a nice stretchy t-shirt material. Not too thick or thin. My jeans are also TTS - I take the same size as Express jeans. I also take Short Length in these and I'm 5'4".

TWO: This is a standard work from home outfit for me: comfy leggings and tank plus a cardigan to make it look like an outfit! Of course, I actually wear slippers at home, but when I leave the house I can just throw on ankle booties. I'm wearing a Small in the cardigan, and it's one of my favorites this season. I reviewed a couple of other Amazon cardigans in this post but I reach for this one the most. It might be because it's fairly lightweight which suits our weather better right now. It does take about two weeks to arrive but it's under $25 and worth it!

THREE: I can't explain why I was drawn to this black snap button cardigan. I don't know if I think this style is the most "in" right now, but I just liked the button detail. It's true to size but more like Junior's sizing. I'm wearing an XS and it's fine but feels on the small side of "true to size." In other words, if you're not sure which size to get or between sizes, choose the bigger sizes. It's under $25 (with Prime Shipping and an additional 10% off  coupon at the moment), and comes in lots of other colors! Budget sweaters can be iffy but the quality of this is on par with anything you would buy at Express, Target, GAP etc. in my opinion.

On Fridays I like to share a few random things here that wouldn't make it to the blog otherwise! From fashion finds to favorite articles to real life happenings. Here are my four things for today!

1. Fall Trend: One Classic-but-Trendy-Again style I am seeing everywhere (and loving!) lately is the camel coat! I couldn't separate these into Save vs. Splurge because some of the top brands/options at Shopbop are about the same price as mall brands like Express and LOFT, depending on who is having a sale when you want to make a purchase!
ONE: Shop: BB Dakota (Zip to My Heart: $98)
TWO: Shop: Cupcakes & Cashmere (Fayola: $175)
THREE: Shop: Madewell (Double Breasted Blazer: $198)
FOUR: Express ($148)
FIVE: Old Navy ($34 Sale Price)
SIX: LOFT ($148)
I don't really have much need for a winter coat here but the reviews for the Express option describe it as "lightweight" which probably makes it the front runner in my case. But I do love the classic peacoat styling of the Madewell, Old Navy and LOFT options!

2. 2019 Planner: Now that we're approaching the end of the year, I'm starting to schedule appointments into January! I had to order my 2019 Planner this week. Last year I gave Plum Paper a try (not sponsored, not affiliated, just recommended by my friend Kristen) and I liked it enough to re-order this year. They have customizable, reasonably priced planners that fit my preferences so I'm a fan. e.g. I need all of the weekdays on one page so I can fold the planner in half and see my full week staring me in the face on my desk! I order the 7x9 Notes & Days option shown below.

3. Individually-Wrapped Makeup Wipes: I know this sounds silly, but I was so excited to see these individually wrapped makeup wipes at Target this week! For ages I have been keeping one on hand in my car or purse in a Ziploc bag. Anytime I want to re-apply lipstick I like to have a clean slate, and these wipes are my favorite way remove lipstick. But sometimes they dry out in the Ziploc bag before I can use them, plus this individual packaging is way more compact. This isn't an everyday product for me but I do like having it on hand, a few times per week, so this is much more convenient!

4. Weekend Plans: This one is a busy one! The kids have some activities on Saturday afternoon, then we have a school event to attend Saturday evening. Sunday I have my monthly Girl's Brunch, but this time we're making it just coffee to save time and money since the busy + expensive season is upon us! Somewhere in there I need to squeeze in workouts, errands, laundry and blogging!

  1. One of the best things my kids ever got trick or treating was a capri sun! It's so hot here and a drink was a much needed treat! I always think of that when I'm considering what to pass out. I need a new planner so I will definitely be checking out Plum Paper. Planners are such a personal decision, I feel like if I get a bad one it ruins my plans to be organized. I have spent a lot in the past and not really enjoyed the planner, despite all the rave reviews from others. I'm with you on the work from home standard outfit - such a great formula!
Have a wonderful weekend my friend!

    1. I was sooo close to get Kool-Aid pouches to hand out! I think I might try it next year. And yes, planners are really individual. I'm sure what I like won't be right for everyone. But I feel like one brand dominates the blog world because they (sponsor a lot of bloggers, frankly) so I felt like sharing an alternative. :)

  3. Don't remind me of the holiday season, specially coming to California, tickets are so expensive. I'm loving your turtleneck, I just got a black one. My weekend is thankfully not too busy and I cannot wait!

  4. The individual makeup wipes sound interesting, but as my kids are still quite young I find we always go through a pack before they get anywhere close to drying out haha, I use them for everything!

I like your casual work from home outfit too, that's a cute cardi :)

Hope that you have a great weekend ahead of you! :)

    1. Oh yeah, these definitely won't replace baby wipes! And even with older kid we still use those a lot. But I don't like to use those for makeup removal...it just doesn't work as well actually!

  5. I love your burgundy turtleneck! I need to order a new planner. In the past I've used Erin Condren but tried a new line last year that I really didn't love. I'll check out Plum Paper - love that you can customize it!

    1. Erin Condren planners do look really cute, but even their customized pages don't allow me to view my full week all on one 7x9 page and that's a must for me. I know everyone has different preferences on that though!

  6. I think you've sold me on the Plum Paper Planner. It's so hard to choose which ones have just enough bells and whistles to be actually useful. And the individual make-up wipes for lipstick is brilliant. (I sometimes use the back of my hand).

    1. Ha, I've used my hand too. Or a paper towel and water in a public restroom, which is awful and not very effective. Planner preferences really are so individual...I do think it takes a bit of trial and error to see what features/layout are a MUST for you. The full weekly view is a must for me and surprisingly difficult to find in other brands!

  7. I don't use make up wipes often so I have the same issue when I finally pop them open and they have dried out. I love the idea of packaging them individually! I'll have to look out for them because I love bringing them when I travel! You have some great camel coat picks!

    1. Yes! I carry a giant pack with me when I travel and it will be much easier/more space efficient to just pack a few for the number of days I'll be staying.

  8. I love your black denim! They look sleek, sexy, and chic all in one. And I’ll have to try those individually wrapped wipes! I’m like you and enjoy carrying some with me, plus they’d be perfect for camping! Thanks for the heads up :) Have a great weekend!

    1. Aren't they great for travel? I'm so glad someone decided to make these. And thanks for the sweet comments. I do love my black jeans! :)

  9. Love the camel coats!! Also really like that long striped sweater. I wear things like that so much because like you said, it's comfy around the house, but looks put together for when you go out... and that's my life. I'm at home and running errands and running kids, etc... all day.
