Summer Comfort

|
After confessing on Friday that I'm not feeling very creative in terms of summer fashion, I thought I could at least mix it up today by sharing something a little more along the athleisure lines instead of my everyday casual. I've been wearing outfits like this when I go out for walks in the evening or even just around the house when I don't have to be anywhere right away. I just need to look nice enough to answer the door, and I'm sure the UPS man has seen much worse than this!

This t-shirt is really lightweight and has a bit of an oversized fit. It's somewhat sheer, but since I'm wearing a black sports bra under it you can get a sense for just how see through it is. When I wear it as a regular tee, I just wear a nude bra and I don't feel like it's too see through for that, but your preference may vary. It runs Small-XL and I took a Small. It fits about like I would expect a Small to fit so I think it's true to size. It reminds me quite a bit of the Madewell Whisper Tee that I also love, but this one is a bit longer in the torso. It did shrink a bit after I washed and dried it, so it's not long enough for leggings anymore, but it still works better for a side tie like I've done here than the Madewell tee.

And for what it's worth, in reality no, I don't go out for walks with my Fishtail Braid Hair Extension! But it looks cuter in pics than my normal hair so what can I say? Vanity won over reality on this one.

These New Balance shoes are awesome, however they are actually my mom's shoes now! I followed the recommendations to go a half size up in these, but after wearing them a couple of times and taking them on my trip to Oregon, I finally accepted they were just a bit too big and I need to re-order my regular size. Since they were used I couldn't return them, but while I was with my family in Oregon we played "Cinderella" so to speak and my mom was the lucky one who was the best fit. So even though I'm annoyed at myself for making that mistake, I was happy to know they were going to a good home! And for what it's worth my mom thought they were ultra-comfy too and wore them for her travels home.

My fleece shorts are selling out in a few sizes (I went one size up for a relaxed and comfortable fit), but I'd also check your local Target since I've seen a lot these in stock locally (near the athletic wear section). But if that's not an option for you, I rounded up a few more Splurge and Save fleece shorts since everyone needs a pair!

Here's some chit chat and light reading to start off your week!

1. Malcolm Gladwell Book Recommendations...Malcolm Gladwell is one of my favorite authors so I was very interested to see this list of 12 Compelling Books he recommends. The only one I've read from his list is Freakonomics and I definitely enjoyed that, so I'll be adding a few more of his suggestions to my list.

2. Speaking of Books...My next round of book reviews will be up on Tuesday, August 14. It's always the second Tuesday of the month, but it feels later than usual this month since the first day of the month was a Wednesday.

3. The Price of Fame...This article was pretty interesting regarding the actual cost of being a celebrity. I think most of us muggles are pretty quick to judge celebrities when they get into financial trouble, and I'm sure sometimes they do overspend (like all of us!). But I can also understand how quickly something like the need for a full time security guard for your personal safety would take a toll on your budget.

4. Fanny Packs are a Festival Staple...This article explains how Fanny Packs are all the rage at music festivals. Personally I don't attend music festivals, but I do love my belt bags when I travel. It's nice to know that younger and more hip people than myself are on board with one of my favorite, practical trends!

Thanks for reading today! See you back on Wednesday for another outfit post and a little collaboration I'm doing with a few blogger friends!

  1. As much as I love your fashion posts, I really love your book recommendation posts and so I'll be looking forward to that one. Have you found a favorite no show athletic sock for wearing with your New Balances? I have yet to find one. They either show just a little too much or aren't functional (i.e.,keep scrunch down below my ankle). I love the athleisure look and let's face it--it's what's most of us are wearing.

    1. I recently tried Old Navy's no-show sneaker socks (as an add on to meet the free shipping minimum, of course!) and I am liking them. I've also heard good things about this pair

    1. To be honest some of the books didn't sound very interesting to me, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because Malcolm said so!

  4. That's such a cute casual outfit, and a lot dressier than my around the house outfits (which are usually pyjamas, haha!). It's a shame the shoes weren't the right size, but great your mum can wear them!

Hope that you had a lovely weekend :) We had a quiet one as we were all a little unwell from another winter bug! Feeling better now though.

    1. Ha, well, this feels like pajamas and I often sleep in something similar, so it's probably not much different from what you're wearing around the house!

  5. This is the cutest everyday and comfy style! I love the addition of the fishtail braid! I have one pair of fleece shorts and find myself always reaching for them, they are great for everyday wear. The side knot on your tee is such a cute way to style it.
Fannypacks are so functional that part of me is glad to see they are making a comeback. Function just has to win out sometimes and I've seen a few from Gucci that make them look pretty fashionable as well. Looking forward to your book review!

    1. Thanks Kellyann! Knotting the tee on the side was really the only way to make it not look sloppy with the shorts. A front tuck felt too formal for such a casual look.

  6. I'll be wearing a similar version of this outfit often for the next couple of weeks! You can't stress about how you look when you are packing up! I can't wait to see your book recommendations! You always have some good ones!

    1. Good luck with your move! And yes...when you're moving fashion kinda has to go out the window. Or rather...into a box to take to your new home!

  7. Those shoes are adorable - I’m glad you’re getting them in the right size - they look perfect and not too bulky to wear with streetstyle looks as well as athleisure!

    1. I learned with the Adidas superstars that if sneakers are too wide...they will make me feel uncomfortable and clownish so I'm all about a more sleek style like this.

  8. That's such a cute work-out outfit and I love that it looks nice without looking too over the top... you know... like you're preparing for the runway more than a quick jog.

    1. LOL yes, I know the type that you mean! I don't even own any fancy workout clothes like that. Since I work out at home I keep it pretty simple in that department. It saves me a lot of money!

  9. I’m so with you I’m feeling uninspired in the summer clothing department! I have a post going up tomorrow about it ;)

But I must say, you look fabulous! I love each item you’re wearing, especially the braid! Such a cute look Gina!

    1. Ha, glad to know I'm not alone in the struggle! I don't mind getting dressed every day, but trying to make it feel "blog worthy" is another story.

  10. That fishtail braid had me fooled! Love it though and why they didn't I think of that?! I am no good in braiding hair let alone fishtail nraiding! Going to check this out. You look so cute in this outfit and I am sorry to hear about this sneaks. They are pretty but if they don't fit right you probably won't get a lot of wear from them. At least it's going to a nice home and I am sure your mom pretty happy!

    1. I wish my hair were long and thick enough to braid like that, but I'm glad there are some fun shortcuts to help me out in the meantime. :)

  13. You look adorable in this athleisure look and your legs are killin' it. Just this summer on days when I know I'm staying home, I've been throwing on my Nike running shorts and a tee. Something I never did before and I gotta' say, I don't hate it. HA!
