Little White (Faux) Dress

|
All summer I have been seeing bloggers styling white on white outfits and thinking, "I need to try that." It's just such a vibrant, pretty look for summer! I was leaning towards getting a little white summer dress to wear and even put a few in my shopping cart...only to take them out later. I've tried white-on-white in the past and wasn't happy with the results, so I was pretty reluctant to make any purchases. But then I had an "a ha!" moment! I remembered that I have worn a faux LBD numerous times by pairing a black tank and black skirt, so why not try the same thing with my white skirt? Then I can try the trend without spending a dime. Perfect!

I got this white eyelet skirt earlier this summer and have worn it a few times with different colors of tops (e.g. a grey t-shirt in this post or my olive tank in this post). I noticed that a few reviewers thought this ran small and/or short. I'm 5'4" for reference, so naturally if you're taller than me it's going to look a lot shorter. On the product model it only comes to mid-thigh, but she looks to be at least 5'10" with really long legs. As for running small, I took my normal size, but since it doesn't have any stretch and is pretty fitted around the hips and lower abdomen, I think depending on how people carry their weight it might require sizing up. I have my tank tucked in to the skirt here but since it's all white...it still kind of blends together in the photos, but the top of skirt hits just below my belly button.

My tank is just a Target basic, and my exact denim jacket is sold out (Mavi "Samantha" from Nordstrom since they have been known to restock), but I did try on this $40 Old Navy version in store since I've been linking to it so often as a similar item, and I can tell you that it really is very similar to this. My jacket is slightly shorter/more cropped than the Old Navy version, but otherwise the fit and sizing are very similar.

Taking outfit pictures is a funny thing sometimes. When I put this outfit on, I wasn't loving it on myself. I just didn't feel comfortable in all white and I really can't pinpoint why. But since I had agreed to the collaboration, I wanted to follow through. So I went ahead and took the pictures in this outfit...but then changed back into my olive tank for real life. But when I pulled up the pictures to edit and post...I actually didn't mind the white on white! Maybe it just takes some getting used to, but I was glad I was able to try it without buying anything new.

Summer White Collaboration:
Usually I share a few more ways to wear one of the pieces in my post, but since all of these are repeats, I thought it would be a good time to share some all-white inspo from other bloggers!

  4. Isn't it funny how we never think twice about wearing all black but wearing all white is so different! Ha! I love a little white dress, faux or real it looks great. Adding the denim jacket is even better because I just love denim and white. You wear this so well Gina!

    1. Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! Black on black = easy to pull off. All white = scary!

    1. It was really too hot for the jacket but I also didn't like the outfit without it! So I suffered a bit for the sake of fashion. Ha!

  9. I love your LWD and how fun is that blue denim jacket!!

  10. I love the idea of doing a "faux" LWD with a tank and a skirt! That's a great way to try the idea without committing to buying a new dress. I do like how it turned out, but I also feel a bit conspicuous when I wear all white (which is rare).

    1. Yeah, I wouldn't have been comfortable removing the jacket, that's for sure! Which is not the best situation when it's over 90F!

    1. Well...for one it's kind of a stain magnet! Ha! I know you have two young boys so it definitely is a gamble that one of them will go digging in the dirt and come back in to give you a big hug in your white outfit! But maybe try it for a date night. :) It would look great on your coloring.

  13. Gina, I love this white on white outfit and it really looks like a white dress the way you have it styled it! Isn’t it funny how some outfits photograph in such a way that it changes your perspective on them altogether?! You look amazing as always!

    1. Thanks so much, Shelbee! I know "a picture is worth a thousand words"...and sometimes those include, "wait...I don't think it looked like this in person!" Ha!

  14. I think it's really cute! I really like white on white looks when people vary the texture of the pieces they are wearing like you did. This is definitely something I would wear!
