Four Summer Date Night Outfits

|
This summer I've been teaching my husband The Way of the Instagram Husband and having him snap some photos of my date night outfits while we're out and about. These are just iPhone snaps and we don't always have great lighting, but at least you get the idea of how each outfit looks in something other than selfie. A lot of my favorites are a few years old so as usual, I'll link to similar items when the exact piece I'm wearing is sold out. Normally I also share four random things on Friday for my Friday Four, but today I'm just sharing four date night outfits instead!

1. White Blazer, Black Skort:

I first posted this skort with three ways to wear it in this post, and this outfit was the first one I reached for the minute I had an excuse to wear it! I wore this to see a show at the San Diego Fringe Festival followed by drinks and appetizers with friends at Cafe 21 in Gaslamp. The skort runs true to size and is probably my favorite purchase this summer because it's so easy to dress up or down and so functional because it's a skort!

2. Tie Front Cami, Black Shorts:
Unfortunately this exact cami is sold out, but I did find a couple of similar options that would work just as well for this outfit. I'm wearing these Target Sandals in all four of my outfits. They are my very favorites for date night! They're really comfortable (although I do add a ball of foot pad for extra comfort) and between the black and nude pair they go with everything. If I could only have two pairs of dressy shoes...I'd choose these.

3. Lace Cami, Blazer, Skirt

I've had this cami since well before I started this blog, which means it's 5+ years old. Needless to say it's a favorite and it's not going anywhere any time soon. I've paired it with the black shorts from outfit two as well as with dark grey and black jeans if I wanted to wear pants. My Express blazer is sold out in most sizes, but the H&M similar option looks great too at a much better price, and I've had pretty good luck with H&M blazers too. (e.g. My white blazer in outfit one!) I wore this for drinks and appetizers at Fleming's Steak House in La Jolla. I might have been overdressed I guess but when I hear "La Jolla" I think it's going to be fancy. Like most places in San Diego, some people are more dressed up and some are always casual, so I was fine either way. I ordered their fried olives and they were delicious! I love olives but I'd never heard of fried olives before this! It's probably a good thing we don't go there very often!

4. Little Black Dress:

And last but not least, this $17 black dress! One of my dance class friends told me on a Wednesday that she was going to be subbing last minute in a show on Friday, so I hopped on Amazon to see if I could get something for under $30 with Prime Shipping. I've wanted to have a date night dress on hand for awhile since sometimes I just don't want to put an outfit together...and this gave me an excuse to find one. You can't beat the convenience of one and done! Anyway, I looked around a bit and took a chance on this dress since the reviews were pretty good, and with Prime Shipping I could easily return it if it didn't work. Here's the thing: it feels like a $17 dress. You're getting what you pay for with this material. I also had to use two safety pins on the bottom to keep it decent. So is it an amazing quality dress that is a bargain price? No. But it's a bargain dress that looks pretty cute and can certainly work in a pinch! It does come in some other colors but I often find that with cheaper fabrics, black is a safer bet and does a better job of disguising the quality.

Did you notice that I wore my Kendra Scott Alice earrings with every outfit? Along with my Target sandals they're another date night staple. They are a splurge item but they do go on sale and you can get them 50% off in your birthday month. But for a budget option you can also try this pair for just $16, and it comes in the same metal options as the Alice earrings.

Well, I won't be going on a date night this weekend since I'm currently at my family reunion in Oregon. I'll be dressed way down in jeans, sneakers, and everything athleisure. But that's okay since fancy outfits don't necessarily make for fun experiences! Hope you all have a great weekend too and see you back on Monday!

    1. You are too kind, Andrea! And yes, I was all about the casual-comfortable style in Oregon. It was actually nice to take a break from caring about fashion at all!

  3. Girl your date night outfits are superb! I can't believe your husband took these photos with your phone - they're fantastic! Glad you shared your honest opinion about the Amazon dress, it looks great on you but I always hate it when I have to pin things to make them work. The skort is such a great idea, I haven't had one in about 20 years but they make such good sense, especially if you're getting a pedicure! San Diego sounds a lot like Orlando. Even when we go somewhere that's pricey and really upscale someone is wearing shorts! Ugh!!!
Have a great weekend, hope you're enjoying Oregon!

    1. Oh thanks Kellyann! The iPhone X has a pretty good camera! And of course, I gave them a generous dose of editing to make them bloggable! You should definitely try a skort! You'd get a ton of use out of it in your climate.

  4. These are lovely date night outfits! I wish we could do more regular date nights, but it's hard when the kids are so little Out of all the outfits, I loved the striped bow detail tank outfit the most, but they are all great! :)

Hope you are having a great week and enjoying your family time :) I went to a blogging event today, it was a lot of fun :)

    1. Thanks Mica! Your kids are quite a bit younger than mine if I recall correctly and yes, it was MUCH more difficult (and expensive to get out back then). We had a three year period with zero date nights when they were really young!

  6. It seems like you make date nights a priority which is wonderful! I'm hoping we can find a good babysitter once we move and start to have more regular dates. It's nice to be able to connect with you hubby without kids once in a while!

    1. Finding a babysitter in a new town is TOUGH! Hope you are able to find someone. It's gotten easier to do date night as the kids have gotten older, which is great since we hardly ever get time alone to talk during the week!
