How to Style a Skort

|
Skorts don't seem to be an item that I see very often on other bloggers or even in stores. But I've owned a few at various times in my life and personally, I'm a fan. Shorter length skirts are usually more flattering on my frame, but they're not very functional for my lifestyle. A skort gives me the best of both worlds: the look of a skirt with the coverage of shorts. I just picked up this black skort and wore it for a full day of activities on Coronado Island, including an impromptu bike ride that wouldn't have happened if this were a skirt!

SKORT: This skort is true to size with an easy on/off elastic waistband. It does have a wrap front with a tie on the side, but the front ruffle flap is attached so even even if the tie comes undone, it doesn't fall open. I'm usually not drawn to polka dots but I think the fact that these were so tiny made them more appealing to me. If black and white is not your thing, this also comes in a floral version. And if this is just entirely too short for your lifestyle or personal preference, you could style similar outfits to the ones I'm sharing today with this similar knee length skirt or this midi-skirt option.

BRACELETS: Charmed Stacks inventory is constantly changing since each set is handmade. If you don't see something similar to what I'm wearing and that's what you're after, contact the shop owners for a custom set! They're incredibly friendly and would be happy to help. You can also use code: onthedailyx at checkout to save 10% on your next order.

I wore this for a hometown tourist kind of day when I took my youngest son to Coronado Island to see his saxophone teacher play in the Coronado Big Band at the Coronado Ferry landing. That was such a fun experience! They sounded great and their performance was the perfect accompaniment to a beautiful day. Lots of people got up and danced or just stopped for awhile to listen. If you're a local or planning a trip to San Diego, they'll be playing again at the Ferry Landing again on September 9 from what they said, but double-check their website closer to the date to confirm. My son also saw lots of people riding around on beach cruisers and covered multi-person bicycles and really wanted to try that, so I agreed that ended up being a fun part of our day.

And by the way, this outfit is one that my Echo Look preferred in Monday's post! Quick reminder that the promo code ECHOLOOK20 for $40 off is good through Friday, June 22.

If you're still not sure a skort will work with your lifestyle or wardrobe, I put together a few more outfit options to share and for my own future-outfit planning. I think this piece is going to be great for dressing up, down and in between.

Whenever I put the extra time into creating a few outfits for a new-to-me item in a post like this it always ends up saving me time down the road. If the weather cooperates, I'll be wearing outfit three for my next date night! I really love the contrast of the white blazer with the skort, and it might even work with my white denim jacket for a more casual look so I'll have to try that, too. And naturally I went with a lot of neutrals for my outfits, but I am sure this would pair well with plenty of colors, too. I can't wait to hear from you all if you already wear skorts or are open to trying them!

  1. Love the idea of the skort. I haven't had one in probably 20 years but I have seen a few Lilly Pulitzer ones that were very cute. I like this one because you can dress it up - your date night look is fabulous! A day in Coronado sounds terrific - we were there on our honeymoon when went to San Diego and I remember how beautiful it was! Lookin' great my friend!

  2. I had skorts 20- 25 years ago, about the same time as rompers, and loved them. I can't imagine why they are not popular like rompers again. You look great in this outfit!

  5. Your skort is lovely! :) I haven't seen skorts on blogs since the fun I think it was Zara cross over one? But they are a great idea for summer! :)

    1. Oh yes! I do remember when that Zara skort was popular. I think that's about the last time a skort was a "thing"...though even then I mainly saw that on blogs and not much in real life!

  9. I have not worn skort for a very long time. I need to get one. I used to love it because it feels comfortable wearing it.You know for sure if there is wind there is short underneath that would not reveal anything :).
    Love this skort.

  14. This skort is so cute! I love the ruffles and flowy fit of it. You are right, too. It's so much more versatile than a skirt, especially if you are moving around a lot or have young kids and need to bend down and pick things up (all the time)!

P.S. Welcome by every day this week because I am styling a new skirt each day and I think you will love what I come up with, thanks. =)
