Grey Cover Up + Currently

|
It was another case of Pinterest to the rescue with today's outfit. Our weekends tend to be pretty hectic since the kids have a full activity schedule and we always seem to be running out of something or another that requires me to make a trip or two to the store. I wasn't feeling creative last weekend or like I had anything new I especially wanted to share on the blog, so I pulled up Pinterest on my phone and found this pin called "Fabulously Running Errands" saved to one of my boards. That described my goal for the day to a T, so I put together similar items from my closet and I was off!

Grammatical side note: the saying "to a T" is one I hear all the time but haven't written here as far as I can recall so I wasn't sure if it was T, tee or tea?! I went with the Grammarist-approved spelling. And while I'm on side-notes, I should also mention that I have this outfit set pinned to my board as well, and I sort of combined both for my outfit since those shoes are more similar to what I chose.

I've worn this grey cover up a few times over workout clothes (see an example in this Instagram Post), but I wanted to see if it could work as something other than athleisure to get more use out of it. Both of the Pinterest outfits that inspired mine used a t-shirt, but I decided to try my lace trim cami instead to dress up the look. I figured it would balance out the dressy/casual vibes to a nice middle ground, kind of like ordering a Diet Coke with a Big Mac to balance out the calories. Anyway, it wasn't my all-time favorite outfit but it was alright for Fabulously Running Errands.

For size reference, I'm wearing a Small in the grey cover-up (it comes in Small-Large) and an XS in the lace-trim cami. My black jeans and taupe espadrilles are both true to size. I mentioned not being used to this style of platform wedge when I first posted these, but I've worn them a few times now and I'm definitely getting used to them. It's hard not to love how long they make your legs feel! They were comfortable enough for a few errands, but I wouldn't wear them to an event where you'll be doing a lot of walking or standing.

On the first Wednesday of every month I love joining up with Anne for her "Currently" link-up. She provides the creative variety of topics, we provide the answers! (Sometimes creative, sometimes not!)

Celebrating...Mother's Day this month! It's May 13 and I'm starting the process of selecting a card and getting my siblings organized on a gift for our mom. I shared some of our usual gifts at the end of this post last week and have a few other sentimental gift favorites in this post. As for me, I'm hoping I can get my husband and kids to go to a "nicer" restaurant for brunch (they always prefer casual) and maybe I'll use the day as an excuse to justify picking something out for myself off my wishlist.

Creating...graphics for the blog and Instagram on Canva. Last month my favorite collage site was acquired by another brand and the collage capability was shut down (RIP Polyvore). It's been a blessing in disguise since it forced me to learn another program which actually has way more capabilities overall. Graphic design is not my forté at all, but if I can figure out Canva, anyone can. It still can't do 100% of what I need to do, so I'll probably still end up getting Photoshop Elements. I just haven't gotten around to it quite yet.

Wearing...See above or any of either of my most recent Everyday Outfits posts here and here.

Sharing...Full book reviews on the second Tuesday of the month, which means they're coming up again this Tuesday, May 8. If you're following on Instagram I try to give a quick Liked/Didn't Like review when I finish a book, but I always have more to say that I save for the full review. If you need a good book recommendation right now you can check out my most recent reviews from April or March.

Going...to my monthly Girls Brunch this Sunday. I'm not sure where we're having it yet since it's not my turn to choose the location (there are four of us and we take turns picking the restaurant) and the selector of the month hasn't made her choice, but it's always fun to try a new place and visit with friends. On the topic of friends, as someone who has moved a lot in adulthood I can tell you that finding that group of four friends for the brunch took several years and a lot of intentional effort. If you've moved to a new town recently or just not where you want to be in terms of meaningful friendships, I really enjoyed Chalene Johnson's Podcast on this topic. She had some good tips that I agreed with and some ideas that gave me food for thought on continuing to make more friends. 1. Yes, the blog is a pretty good reference point too! I especially find that when I've down X Ways to Wear a certain piece I go back to those for ideas for myself! Glad I'm not alone!

  3. How did we do anything without Pinterest? I swear, it is the answer to everything! Your grey cover up is so cute and looks great over the cami, maybe I need that for my trip this Summer. I love looking put together when I'm out and about but I also want to be comfortable, your outfit is perfect!
I can't wait for your book review next week!We are celebrating Mother's Day with my family this Sunday so I found myself in a bit of a rush to get some gifts. I ended up getting gift certificates to a nail salon for all the women in my family. Easy and useful! Brunch sounds nice, not sure how I'll spend my day yet!
    Happy Hump Day Gina!

    1. A nail salon gift certificate is a great idea! I think most women enjoy a little pampering. :)

  4. This outfit is quite fabulous for running errands, you don't want to see my errands outfit lol. I like the idea of monthly brunch with friend. One of my girlfriends and I started a monthly dinner. It has been so fun to meet up and catch up.

    1. Ha! Well, at least on the weekend, my errands day is also the day I have someone to take my pictures so I always try a little harder knowing it will likely end up on the blog!

  6. I love that you have a monthly girls brunch, that is so fun! Brunch is my favorite :) I'm hoping for a Mother's Day brunch out as well. If you do figure out Canva I'd love to hear more about your process/how you use it. I always hear about it but am also NOT great at graphic design so I haven't taken the time to try to figure it out.
Had to LOL over looking up "to a T" because that is totally something I would do too :)

    1. Honestly, I just started playing around with it! They have tons of pre-made templates and so far I always use those because I'm not creative enough to come up with my own ideas there! Plus the one time I tried, I just couldn't figure it out. But the templates are great!

Love the outfit, and it's one I'll copy too!!

    1. Ha, yes! I was the same way with Pinterest at first. It was just a lot of stuff and too random. Not that it's hard to use, but it takes some time to really make it work for you.

  9. Very cute look for running errands! I like the mix of casual and a little dressier. I've been using Canva for awhile and really like how easy it is to use. I received Photoshop Elements for Christmas and have yet to try to use it. Hopefully this summer I will have some time to watch tutorials.

  13. Pinterest is basically a superhero for moms. LOL Love the casual vibe. I try to do that with some of my Barefoot Dreams pieces and I'm always a little self conscious, but they are so wonderful I just don't care. It's funny, I signed up for Polyvore and never even used it. I'll say this about Photoshop...I don't know if the elements version is different from the Adobe Photoshop software I got years ago, but it is not at all intuitive. I was even sitting by a girl who was using it on my last flight and I asked if she was a photographer (no, she was a painter. WOW) anyway, she was using photoshop and I gave her my thoughts and she totally agreed, so I felt validated in my ignorance. HA! I only use it for collages as far as the pic portion goes and then I move to PicMonkey for text, etc...I can't even figure out how to add text in Photoshop😩. Well that was a lot of info you didn't ask for.😉 Happy Hump Day! XO

    1. I have heard the same thing about Photoshop not being very user-friendly! I have had the same issue with Lightroom and I'm getting by...just barely! Which is why I'm not too eager to learn another complicated product when I don't even have Lightroom down!

  14. Oh man not Polyvore!! I never used it that much, but I'm sad to see it go. I use photoshop to add text, but I know a lot of people use Canva, you can do it!! Pinterest saves me in so many ways on a weekly basis I think, haha!

  15. I always head to pinterest when I just can't think of what to wear, too. It's so nice to find inspiration easily. I know my husband appreciates it when I am able to get dressed faster, too! Haha! Your Girls Brunch sounds like so much fun! I was just talking to my friends about the fact that we need to set up something more regularly!

    1. Oh gosh yes, I'm usually the slowest one to get dressed in my family so I hear you on that! And yes to setting up a girl's brunch! It helps to be very intentional about it and just keep with it even if everyone can't attend every time. I think you would love it!

  16. I am wearing a similar outfit combo at the moment! My long grey cardigan, fave skinny jeans, and new yellow floral cami I featured on Monday. It's a great formula for running errands! I'll have to check out that pinterest board ;) Oh, and I'm using Canva too! I miss polyvore but I think Canva will do just fine!

  19. This outfit is so up my alley for running errands! The cover up is a versatile piece! And after my 6-hour brunch this Sunday with some girl friends, I think we are going to make it a monthly thing also, so that makes me happy! And good to know your thoughts about Canva!

    1. Yeah...the #1 thing it can't do is crop out a background the way you could in Polyvore. So my use right now is limited to products that are already displayed on a white background. I'm getting by, but I know it will be a road block at some point!
