Everyday Outfits + Friday Four

|
Another week down and another round of outfits to share today! It was actually pretty cold in San Diego this week - several days in a row it didn't get over 60° and the clouds were so dark I really couldn't take any decent selfies. Luckily I had some leftovers from last month that didn't make it to the blog to add in here. This is pretty much the only situation where I'm interested in using leftovers from last month!

Outfit Recap:

Grey Cover Up, Camo Tank, Leggings:
Grey Cover Up (c/o) | Camo Tank (c/o) | Leggings (c/o) | Similar Shoes

This is the same grey cover-up I wore in Wednesday's post, just dressed way down as a throw-on-over-workout clothes piece for going to/from school drop off in the morning when I'm not properly dressed yet or from my once-a-week group exercise class. Inevitably I have to stop for gas or to grab something from the store on the way back so I like to have a a quick and easy cover up for those errands. Both the leggings and the camo tank I'm wearing here are extra soft! If you like really comfortable pieces don't hesitate to get these. The camo tank (I'm wearing a Small in the tank and cover up for reference) is only $10, and the leggings are only $18. One of the reviewers for the leggings said they sagged on her after a 14-hour flight. I didn't have any issues with that when I wore them (for well over 14 hours...I may have slept in them too) but your experience may vary. They're meant to be loungewear more than fitness/shapewear leggings, and I can assure you that I lounged extensively in them and they were great!

Taupe T-Shirt, White Jeans:
Taupe T-Shirt (c/o) | White Jeans | Tory Burch Miller Sandals (c/o) (Budget Option) | Charmed Stacks Bracelets (Similar Set: Use code onthedailyx for 10% off any order)

I'm a big fan of Z Supply t-shirts and I was happy to discover awhile back that Amazon sells individual colors like this taupe version. They're true to size with a relaxed/slightly oversized fit. They are somewhat expensive for a t-shirt, so if you don't want to splurge you could try this brand with a similar fit similar taupe color option. I actually like that the similar option doesn't have a pocket on the bust, because sometimes that pocket annoys me when I have a jacket or cardigan over the t-shirt. (I just noticed you can't really see the bust pocket since my arm is in front of it, but you'll see it in the product photo.) My white jeans are true to size, and I also took my normal size in the Tory Burch Miller Sandals. I know quite a few ladies who went a half size up in theirs, but I didn't need to this time. I linked one similar budget option, but my favorite similar pair is this version that a reader mentioned. The only reason I don't always link to it with my outfit is because they don't currently have a similar color to mine, but they do have a lot of other cute colors.

Pink Blazer-Cardigan, Black Jeans:

Alright, I am loving this pink cover-up! It has the comfort of a cardigan with a little bit more of a structured blazer look  It's the perfect dressy/casual balance for my lifestyle. It came in a black version before they came out with pink this Spring, and now I really regret not getting the black one! It's true to size with a relaxed fit so don't size up! (I'm wearing an XS.) I'm wearing a Small in this tank (but it only runs Small-XL so get your normal size if possible) and my pics don't do it justice since you can't see any of the lace/crochet detail on the black version of this. My favorite black jeans are true to size, and same for my Neutral Cork Mules. I'm really glad I trusted the reviews and got went for these because they really are comfortable! Yes, there's a bit of that clompiness going on when you walk in them, but they're comfortable, on trend, and a great neutral shade so they were well worth the under $35 price.

On Fridays I like to share four random things here...from recipes to new articles to weekend plans to beauty products I'm loving. Basically anything that doesn't make it into the other posts of the week is fair game! Here are my four things for this Friday:

1. Teeth Whitening Strips
I've tried a few different products for teeth whitening over the years but I always come back to this, and I don't think I've shared it on the blog before:

These are from Target and relatively affordable and easy to find - two of my main criteria for this sort of product. I don't use them for 14 days straight as directed. Instead, I use them about twice a week, every week. They don't make my teeth sensitive  this way, and unfortunately I've had that issue with some of the faster acting/stronger versions. I drink a fair amount of coffee and red wine and I feel like this does a good job of keeping my teeth looking nice without a lot of hassle. Maybe it's not as white as a professional treatment but for the convenience and price, it's good enough for me. Also, the "new, easy-to-use thin design" as described on the box makes a big difference! They changed the design about a year or two ago and these really are much easier to use than the previous version.

2. Thai Crystal Deodorant
Based on all the studies about the potential dangers of using regular anti-perspirant/deodorant (this Time Magazine article explains it in a fairly objective way), we switched to this natural spray version a few years ago and haven't looked back:

It works well and lives up to the statements on the label in my experience, especially the Fragrance Free and Non-Staining claims. I do recommend this if you've wanted to explore natural sunscreens. They also have a stone/crystal version, but I personally don't like that formula as much because I find it harder to apply.

3.  Blogger vs. Influencer
I thought this article on using the term Blogger vs. Influencer was interesting, but I also felt confused about my identity when I finished it. Ha! I've always considered myself a blogger since my blog was my first platform and is still my main platform. But I don't always write the magazine-style articles that she considers blogger material, e.g. tips, tricks, and how-tos. I think most of my posts fall under her Influencer label. I suppose the name doesn't really matter in my case (as Shakespeare said, "What's in a name?"), but it was interesting food for thought nonetheless.

4. Angelina Jolie
I'm not a huge Angelina Jolie fan, but I really did like this quote she gave in Elle magazine:
“What sets you apart is what you are willing to do for others. Anyone can put on a dress and makeup. It’s your mind that will define you. Find out who you are, what you think, and what you stand for. And fight for others to have those same freedoms. A life of service is worth living.” I thought that was poignant, and it made me pause and think for a bit about my role in the fashion blogging industry, which rewards people precisely for "putting on a dress and makeup." I'm always looking for ways to connect more deeply than that, and generally I've had more luck doing that with fellow bloggers than with everyday readers. If any of you all have feedback on that I hope you'll send me an email or message me in your preferred way to let me know the ways you like to connect beyond a dress and makeup!

  1. You take the best selfies my friend. I have such a hard time, no good lighting and a mirror that isn't really big enough - boo! That grey coverup make be a good one to wear over my swim suit. Although it's not beachy looking it seems functional. Over the years I have compiled quite a collection of cute cover ups but they don't really function well over my current suits.
I've used the terms influencer and blogger interchangeably but wondered what the real difference was, I guess it's clear as mud, huh? Before I started my own blog I rarely commented. I did on a few blogs but mostly just read and of course clicked and purchased! Once I started the blog I realized the importance of the comments to building relationships.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend Gina!

    1. Yeah, I don't even know if the correct term matters at all! I just keep doing my thing regardless. And thanks for the selfie comments! Lighting is everything for me!

  2. I love all four of your outfits here and that camo shirt is a favorite! We have weird weather here on my end too though we are also in California. It's been in the 80s but feels cooler? Weird right?! Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

    1. It's strange, isn't it? When we went to Southern Utah for Spring Break 70 felt like 80 here!

  3. Love that quote from Angelina! And I love using crystal deodorants when I can - I even use the rock one - although there is a trick to applying it

    1. Well now you have to tell us the trick! I certainly cannot figure it out.

  4. That pink cardigan is so pretty--I love that it has a little bit of structure but is still open and casual. Once I get around to replacing the blush pink cardigan I have (it's old!) I might look at that one.
I'll have to try those Target white strips--I'm a pretty devoted coffee and red wine drinker too. So anything would help I'm sure!

    1. Definitely give the whitestrips a try! They're pretty affordable too as far as those things go.

  5. I really like the color of your taupe tee! It's a great shade that looks like it will go with so many things and it's dark enough not to blend in against my pale skin! I'll have to check out those whitening strips too. I only do one or two a week because of my sensitive teeth too. I've been doing an overnight one, but it still sometimes leaves my teeth sensitive. Thanks for the recommendation!

    1. As much as I love in the taupe/beige neutral family for shoes, tops are an entirely different story! I was very happy to find this particular shade.

  6. These are really fun and easy-to-wear outfits! My fave would be the 3rd, cute combo of black top and jeans and pink blazer-cardigan!
