Everyday Outfits + Friday Four 5/11/18

|
This week we had some very nice Summer preview weather and it felt amazing! The warmth and sunshine put me in a good mood, and I think the kids were in extra good moods too because they can sense that the end of the school year is in sight! I was in a pretty relaxed mood this week and that's probably reflected in my outfits. I didn't have to be anywhere dressier than Trader Joe's and Target, so it was casual vibes all the way.

Outfit Recap:

Striped Cardigan, Jean Shorts:

Sizes are selling out quickly on this striped cardigan (it runs true to size), but I did find this somewhat similar version with more sizes still in stock (on a good sale this weekend to boot). My Miller Sandals are the Sand Patent color and I took my normal size. If you're considering getting just one pair of these as a splurge, I would definitely go with a nude since they work with just about everything. The Light Makeup Color is another popular "nude" option, but it has more pink tones than Sand Patent. So one or the other may work better on your skin coloring (or your faux skin coloring in the case of my self-tanned skin color!).

Black Cardigan, Taupe Henley:

I really love the color of this taupe henley tank (I'm wearing a Small, which I usually prefer for fitted tanks),and I think I like it better the first way I wore it with a white cardigan, but I was trying not to repeat the exact outfit, and black was the only other cardigan color I liked with it. I do think it would be cute with a denim jacket and white jeans, too, I just wasn't feeling like wearing either of those pieces this day since I just wanted low fuss, high comfort. I could have easily worn the Miller sandals with this too (especially in keeping with my comfort goals), but I opted for these mules again since they make my legs look a little longer with pants than flat sandals.

White Tee, Camo Shorts:

All of these items are from last summer, but most of them are still in stock or have similar, current options. My tee is true to size with a relaxed fit (I'm wearing XS), and same for these camo shorts. Sometimes I size up in shorts so they sit lower on the hip and thigh, but that's entirely unnecessary with these. My pearl slides are from Target last year so I linked two very similar options still in stock. I wore this for my "long day at work," meaning my youngest gets out of school early that day. Short day for kids =  long work day for stay at home moms! We also double up on activities on that day (music lessons and basketball) so I like to be extra comfortable for all the driving, sitting, watching and waiting.

1. Instagram Story Challenge

I'm not as natural at sharing and connecting on Instagram stories as some people, so I decided to do a challenge next week (Sunday, May 13 through Saturday, May 19) with some easy, daily topics to share. If you have an Instagram account I would love to have you join me! Even if you don't have a blog, I bet your friends and family members would enjoy your responses to some of these topics. (Wink wink, nudge nudge to to my own friends and family members who read here!)
If you want to help others find your posts and/or search for other people sharing on the topic du jour, use #storiesonthedaily. And feel free to use and share these graphics on your own stories!

Here is the prompt with this week's topics:
2. Target Sale
I love a good sale at Target so I was glad Kellyann let me know about the 20% off Jewelry & Accessories Sale this week!

Straw Circle Bag ($22) | Earrings ($8)

Target has lots of on-trend straw bags for under $25 with this sale pricing. Jean Shorts are also 20% off this week. I have several pairs of Target shorts from past seasons that I still wear and love, and they have quite a few options for under $20 with sale code DENIM20.
Left ($14 on sale) | Right ($16 on sale)
3. Home Workouts
If you've read any of my fitness posts (see Categories > Fitness from the menu bar up top) then you'll know Cathe Friedrich's workout DVDs are my favorites for my home fitness routine. She just announced a new series this week, with a discount on pre-orders. The series is low impact (hooray for joint preservation), but it's also designed for intermediate exercisers...which makes it a gamble for me. Some of her intermediate workouts are pretty challenging or at least easy to make challenging by using heavier weights, but it's hard to know if that will be true for this. I do like the sound of her "6 pack abs" workout as well as the "Body Weight & Bands." And the Upper and Lower Body weights routines sound good too, if not on their on then as add-ons. So I think I just talked myself into pre-ordering this! It won't be in my hands until late fall/early winter, but I don't mind the wait for the cost savings. With most series that I pre-order, I don't love all of the workouts. But I usually love enough that it would have cost as much to buy each of them full price after the release date as it did to pre-order the full set.

4. Dancing with the Stars
Anyone else watching this season of Dancing with the Stars, the Athletes Edition? I'm enjoying the entertaining routines as usual, but I don't like how they are making the season so short and eliminating two or three contestants per week. I don't feel like we get as much chance to really know the performers and watch them grow in their skills and their relationships with their partners. I'm not sure why they made it such a short season this time but I hope it's not the new normal.

That does it for today! I'll try to do an extra post tomorrow with another outfit recap + some weekend sale news since I have quite a few outfits to post that haven't made it to the blog yet. And the best sales to shop are always on the weekend!

  1. Body bands are the rage these days and I say YES to joint preservation! Oh my goodness, I really had to cut back on running and so many of my HIIT workouts include jumping, my body is wearing out. I think I'll join your Instagram challenge next week - I have a hard time with posting things, I always feel so silly so prompts definitely help! Thanks for the shout out too, I appreciate it. The link for your self tanner is bringing me to a cardigan instead. I'm always interested in a good self tanner so I'm interested to know what you're using! Happy Mother's Day Gina!!!

  3. I just ordered some distressed jean shorts from Old Navy so if those don't work out I am definitely heading to Target! Those are great options for fantastic prices! Thanks for sharing! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and Happy Mother's Day!

  4. Love that second outfit! I'm happy I get to wear some cardigans at last now it's cooling off here, haha! The instagram stories challenge sounds like a good one - I'm struggling with using instagram at all, it's all ads and pics that are 2 days old in my feed, I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to, although I do try post my outfit each day, more out of habit than anything!

Hope that you are having a great weekend to end your week! :)
