Olive Cardigan + Currently

|
Well friends, I hope you all are surviving the week! I think that's about all I can say for myself this week. I don't really like to schedule more than two doctor/dentist/orthodontist/hair/car repair appointments per week, but the last few weeks have all had 5-6 of these things per week. When it rains, it pours! As much as I wish I could control the schedule, I've accepted that it's just the way it goes sometimes. Needless to say Spring Break can't get here soon enough! I've been grabbing easy outfit formulas like this lately due to lack of creative energy in the clothing department. Plus, I tend to like basics like this regardless of how many appointments I have in a week!

I first shared this olive J. Crew cardigan in this post, and I didn't waste time wearing it again. It's true to size (I'm wearing an XS), very well made and the perfect weight for Spring. I also think it will be a great A/C counterbalance piece in the summer. (You know how it is...hot outside but freezing inside thanks to the Air Conditioning, so you need a light layer everywhere you go indoors for optimal comfort.) I liked this so much I ordered the striped version (shown below) over Easter weekend since it was an even better price than the solid version.

I'm seeing a lot more of this shorter style of cardigan in stores this Spring as evidenced with the options below. I'm not planning to replace all of my longer cardigans, but a little variety is nice.

My Z-Supply t-shirt also runs true to size with a relaxed fit (I'm wearing XS). While I do have this exact three pack which includes my favorite camo tee (shown here), you can also buy an individual Z-Supply t-shirt via Amazon, and they have even more cute colors.

Here's a little behind the scenes tidbit for you: I've been working on getting more side shots of outfits I wear so that you all can see the heel height of my shoes better. It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult, yet somehow I always end up looking awkward in side poses. I rarely end up getting a picture worth sharing, but this one wasn't terrible and it does show the heel of these boots a little better. I have been wearing them a lot since I got them since I love the pointed toe and neutral color. They're true to size and have a nice cushioned foot bed.

On the first Wednesday of the month I like to join Anne for her "Currently" link up to share a few random lifestyle topics based on the prompts she creates. So here's what I'm currently Showering, Cultivating, Expecting, Buying, and Cooking.

Showering...with these staple products:
I've used lots of expensive, salon-brand shampoo and conditioner lines (e.g. Pureology, Bumble & Bumble) and while some were very good, the Pantene Sheer Volume line works just as well for my fine hair at a fraction of the cost. I guess my affordable shampoo is how I can justify my more expensive shower oil, but at least the refill package is saving me quite a bit on the cost.

Cultivating...this was a tough one! I googled the definition of "cultivate" to see how else I could interpret this prompt, and it said "try to acquire or develop (a quality, sentiment, or skill)." I guess could say I'm trying to cultivate a calm demeanor despite feeling overwhelmed lately.

Expecting...to post my April Book Reviews on Tuesday. I'm trying to wrap up my posts for next week (see above about feeling overwhelmed) since I really don't want to miss book review day while I'm out of town.

Buying...Hiking shoes and a hydration pack for my trip next week. They aren't really exciting purchases for me but I think they'll make the entire experience more comfortable. (You can see last month's book reviews for the book that inspired our trip.)

Cooking...as little as possible! Cooking is really not my forté nor something I enjoy much (though I do love to bake), hence why we use a meal delivery service (Fresh & Fit Meals if you're local) to supplement our food variety. I do cook eggs one (hard boiled, scrambled, over easy or over medium depending on my mood) just about every day for breakfast though.

That's it for current happenings around here! Here's to making it through the rest of the week and I'll see you back here on Friday!

  1. Love to solid version of this sweater, I am wearing mine to work today. Yea I don't believe in expensive shampoo and conditioner, I really don't think they make a difference. Can't wait to see your book review and take a deep breath :)

    1. Loved seeing the pic of your striped version on Insta-stories today! Glad to hear from someone else who's not sold on high end shampoo and conditioner!

  2. I really like the shorter cardigan. It's funny because it seems cardigans either need to be long or cropped lately. As a short waisted woman the cropped version is better on me for Spring. I try to turn to the side for photos too and have the time I practically fall because I'm pivoting - my "photo shoots" are probably comic relief for the neighbors!
I use Pantene volume shampoo and really like it, still need to order that shower oil refill - such an awesome find! Looking forward to your book review next week, you've given me some good ones in the past and I'm always looking for more!
    Have a great Wednesday Gina!

    1. Thanks Kellyann! Glad you can relate to the "photo shoot" (and I use that term loosely!! LOL) struggles. I'm sure we'll get better in time. :) And so glad to hear you've had some good luck with my book recommendations in the past!

Sorry to hear things have been so hectic for you, hope they calm down soon!

Thank you for the link up!

Hope you are having a great week so far! It's been a little rainy here but not too cold so I'm still enjoying wearing shorts, haha! Such a strange autumn!

  6. I always use drugstore brands for my hair too, and usually skincare as well. Although I could definitely see why splurging on that body oil would be worth it--I bet your skin feels amazing after using something like that. I've used L'Occitane products a few times and am always impressed. I hope you get some time to relax and recharge during this season of busyness!

    1. Thanks so much, Shea! And yes, I always used drugstore brands for all of those things, too...until I got the shower oil as a Christmas gift from friends! I probably would never have splurged for it on my own, but now I'm hooked!

  7. Ohhh... I am going to have to come back Tuesday to see your book review. I am always looking for more to add to my BTR list. Have you read, "Girl, Wash Your Face?" I am just finishing that one up and LOVING it. Happy Wednesday!

  8. I'm such a creature of habit and so averse to change (LOL) I have a hard time going from long cardigans to short. #issues I was just looking at that shower oil this weekend. I need a good hostess gift for some friends who are throwing a bridal shower for my future DIL and I thought that might be a good thing to get (in the bottle of course😉) Happy Wednesday!

    1. Ha, yes, in the bottle is probably best for a gift. I actually received my bottle as a gift at first, otherwise I probably would never have splurged on it. But now I'm hooked!

  9. Cute look! Love the jacket! Even when you claim to just throw together a look, you always look so put together.

    1. Thanks so much Amy! We always take these photos on the weekend when I usually have the least amount of time to get ready (due to kids activities and what not) so I do always feel rushed and thrown together!

  11. Omg I’m dying laughing because we sound like twins with the prompts this time! I literally googled “cultivate” as well! Anyway, the shower oil refill is amazing and I’ll continue to purchase it that thanks to your advice! I can’t wait to see and hear all about your upcoming trip! You’ll have to do a recap ;)

    1. Thanks Noelle! Depending on how the trip goes and how much energy I have after (ha!) I'll try to do a recap. At least a mini recap for sure. :)

  12. Cooking as little as possible - ha! I wish. Looking forward to seeing your next batch of book reviews, and I love the cardigan. What a great color and silhouette.

  13. Oh gosh, I wish I could just hire someone to cook all my meals. It would be so much easier. LOL I'm really not a cook, but I need to find more healthy things to eat!!

Loving that cardigan. The color is great!

  14. There's no shame in saving a few bucks where you can! I have been using the Redken Pillow Proof blow dry spray for years and recently ran out. I grabbed a L'Oreal version for under $4 and it works BETTER than the high dollar stuff. Never going back!

  16. Too funny! I was googling 'cultivate' when I was writing my post too. It was hard to think of a good one for that! I love that they keep us on our toes with the prompts!
