Mr. Rogers Cardigan + Monday Motivation

|
When I got this cardigan and put it on for the first time, it immediately reminded me of Mr. Rogers. I didn't think it was necessarily the most on-trend style of cardigan since I see a lot more oversized and duster style cardigans all over the blog world and in real life. But I was drawn to this piece anyway (more on that below), and as I was preparing this post, I came this recent article from In Style. It states that Mr. Rogers cardigans are in fact in style right now! Go figure! I'm not usually an early adopter of most trends but all of a sudden I feel like one.

For me, the general appeal of this button-up cardigan was that it's a completely different style from other cardigans I own. For one thing it's fitted to the body (in the stock photo the model is even wearing it buttoned up like a turtleneck), and most of my cardigans have a relaxed fit. I also loved the button detail, cable knit and functional pockets. It's comfortable and adds a lot of warmth but without a lot of bulk. I'm wearing a Small here, which is my usual size for PattyBoutik items but one size up from what I wear at Express or Gap. It does come in a few other neutral colors (black, olive green, and ivory) but I thought gray would fit the best with my wardrobe and pair well with other Spring colors (like my pink bag) in the upcoming season.

My $10 Leather Earrings are the 2" size. If you've never tried leather earrings, they are light as a feather no matter the size. This is my second pair from this Etsy shop (see the first pair here - same style, different color) and I'm sure it won't be my last. I love their service, reasonable prices, and selection.
I know most people are probably moving on to purchasing Spring shoes instead of shopping for ankle boots at this point in the year, but I really wanted a taupe pair with pointed toes so I have zero regrets about getting this pair recently. I know I'll be wearing them for another month or two and plenty next Fall/Winter. They're true to size and have a nice cushioned foot bed.

Last week I shared a Pinterest inspired outfit, and this outfit also had some Pin-spiration.

I went with a pink bag since it felt more appropriate this time of year, but I can easily see myself repeating this outfit formula again next fall with the burgundy accents.

Monday Motivation: Health Pep Talk
One of my plans for the New Year (I don't like to call it a resolution...more details in my original post) involved continued focus on my health and fitness. Quite honestly, I am much better at focusing on fitness than health. Mostly due to my genetics I've always had an easy time staying consistent with workouts. But when it comes to all the regular health maintenance appointments we should get (women in particular)...eek. I don't even want to confess how inconsistent I am. I get anxiety about going to doctor's offices for myself and it's so easy to just not go. If I don't feel like anything is wrong, things must be okay, right?

As much as I wish that were the case, obviously I know that's not true. I usually a little better with consistent checkups once I get comfortable with a doctor, but I have a new insurance plan this year which means I need a new doctor. And that's all it takes for anxiety to kick in and for me to avoid the situation altogether. I am hoping that by posting about it here I'll hold myself accountable and make an appointment. March would be a great month for me to do it schedule-wise, I just need to find the motivation to take the first step and make the call.

How do you all handle your regular health checkups? I know some people schedule theirs around their birthday every year, but historically that hasn't worked for me. If you have other suggestions on how you keep yourself accountable on health maintenance or especially getting over the anxiety of the doctor's office, by all means share your strategies and secrets with me!

  1. This cardigan is adorable, I looove it! I'm trying not to shop for the next few week but it's on my radar, I love the large buttons.
OH please schedule your checkups, Once I found my doctor it was easy because they make you schedule your next appointment every time. After my issues last year, I realized how quickly things can change once you're pass a certain age. It's unpleasant yes but I'd rather that than having them catch something late and having to go through surgery again. Also august is my yearly checkup month, I just have to do it then.

  2. I've been on a cardigan kick lately and love this one! My mom had breast cancer twice, so I have to keep up on my MRI and mammograms (one each a year) and pap smears. I want to catch it early so I don't have to go through what she went through as it is hard on family, etc. Now, if I could work on my fitness and less wine drinking. My nutrition has gotten a lot better over the last few years. Doing just the one Whole30 last year made a huge difference. There are definitely some foods that affect me negatively and positively.

  3. Having worked in a cancer center I know the importance of regular check ups so I don't even think about it - I just go. On top of that I had a breast reduction in college which left me with lots of scar tissue and it makes it near impossible to do a proper breast exam. So I've had yearly mammograms and sonograms for a very long time. That may be TMI sorry! I just do it like anything else and try not to think about it. I want to be healthy for me and my family and this is the best way I know how. So just do it and then plan something special for yourself afterwards. Anxiety is no easy feat to get past so treat yourself!! You deserve it.
I need to order those leather earrings - such a fabulous price. I'm thinking they'd make great Mother's Day gifts too!
Oh and p.s. Mr. Rogers went to the same college as me (where I got my master's degree - Rollins College) so I'm a huge fan!

  4. Cardigans have been my go-to lately. They make such a great layer for this in-between weather. This one is fun! I like that it is different than the typical boyfriend cardigan we are seeing everywhere (although I love that too). It looks great on you!

  6. Absolutely adore that cardigan! And I’m laughing at the Mr. Rogers reference! I would never think that! I like form fitting cardigans. The ones I have are mostly relaxed and sometimes I have a hard time keeping them on my shoulders! I constantly have to adjust them and that gets a little annoying.

  9. Loving this cute cardigan! Looks so cozy too! I think once you go to a check up it's easy to schedule your next one while you are at the Dr office. That way it forces you to go since it is already scheduled and you don't get the anxiety of having to call and schedule it yourself :)

  10. Lol at the title of this post... Mr. Rogers, but chic!

And I always schedule my main checkups (women's yearly, full-body skin check) for January-February; it feels good to kick off a new year by getting those boxes checked!

  11. that sweater is so pretty! i will admit i would never have looked at it based on the stock photo but it looks comfy on you. i do prefer my jackets/cardigans to be a bit oversized, or at least long (which generally means oversized for me lol) but i do love that brand so i might give it a go.
unfortunately i have no advice about the doctors. i am the same as you and i've only gotten worse since i've moved here because of all the changes and how different things are. i am okay at making appointments but i am fantastic at cancelling them. the only thing i am a stickler about is a pap smear. i should be better about everything, but at least 1 out of like 100 isn't bad, right? lol

  12. This cardigan is so cute and cozy! I really like it and how you have styled it here.

I schedule any future appointments before I leave my doctor's office. It is the only way I can remember and won't chicken out on the next appointment.

  14. Adorable cardigan! I wouldn't have associated it with Mr. Rogers, but it's adorable nonetheless! And ugggghhhh, this subject is tough for me. I was going to regular checkups when I lived in Michigan, then quickly found a doctor here who just as quickly retired. So. I need to find myself a new PCP. I tried going to the husband's doctor, but they're not taking new clients. Ugh. I need to get on it! This is inspiration to do so, so thanks for that!
