Gray Blazer + Kendra Scott Color Bar Party

|
Last week as I was preparing for a Kendra Scott Color Bar Party with a few blogger and non-blogger friends, I have to admit my first reaction to the "what to wear" question  was to think that I needed a newer, trendier outfit than my usual everyday casual stuff. A special event calls for a special outfit, right? But then I took a step back for a minute and reminded myself of a few things. For one, the women I'm friends with (bloggers or not) aren't the type that base our friendship on what I wear. We get together to visit and connect, not to judge outfits. Second, I do have a solid base of wardrobe staples that I can dress up or down based on the event. So I settled on a pretty classic outfit formula of a blazer and jeans that felt comfortable and true to my own style.

I purchased this Express blazer last year and I think I've worn it more than my black blazer since that time! It pairs easily with any color of denim and the light gray just seems appropriate for Spring. There's only one size left in stock for now, but I've linked a few similar options below with more sizes in stock. Two of them are from H&M and very reasonably priced. I haven't tried those exact options but I have had good experiences with H&M blazers in the past. For references I usually take a 0 or 2 in Express blazers and a 2 or 4 in H&M blazers.

When my husband saw this outfit he said, "That's like...half an Audi symbol." It took me a minute to figure out that he was talking about my Double O-Ring belt, and now I can never look at this belt the same way! Oh well. I still like it so I'll keep wearing the heck out of it until the trend dies down.

After months of debating the idea and a little trial and error in finding one that suits my needs, I finally got a white handbag. This is the Tory Burch Half Moon Crossbody and the size is just perfect. Not too big, not too small with a thin, comfortable (and detachable) crossbody strap. It's almost sold out at Shopbop (and may be gone by the time I post this), but if you love the style you can order it from Nordstrom and have it in a few weeks.

Here's a snapshot of our group at Kendra Scott. We had a great time shopping and visiting. I picked up the Alice Earrings I've been wanting (sold out online) and I chose the Teo Necklae as my hostess gift.

I "won" my Color Bar party in a raffle that I entered in store, but I wanted to get some additional details for this post in case anyone was interested in hosting a similar event on their own that they didn't win in a raffle, e.g. are there minimum purchase requirements for attendees or a deposit to reserve the space? As it turns out, winning was kind of a ruse! I called the store and they told me anyone can host the same event, raffle winner or not. You just have to call your local Kendra Scott store, pick a date and time for your Color Bar Party, then bring in (at least) four people in addition to yourself and you can get the exact same experience as we did! The hostess/organizer receives one complimentary Color Bar item, and everyone in the group gets 15% off any purchase in store in addition to champagne (or a non-alcoholic beverage if you prefer) and a some cookies or cupcakes for snacks. It was a fun experience and perfect for a blogger get together so I may have to do it again sometime!

  1. For the record, I think your outfit was perfect for the occasion! But I get it - if I was going to an event my first instinct would be to look for something fabulous, even though something fabulous is hanging right in my own closet! My nephew has a Gucci belt and everytime I see it I admire it but I think your half Audi emblem works just fine and I LOVE that Tory Burch bag!
So I feel like we're living a parallel existence. I "won" a color bar party recently too. It took me awhile to read that what I really won was a chance to host a party and invite friends. Ultimately I decided against it. I was worried I don't have enough friends who'd actually attend and purchase. It felt like too much pressure for me so I skipped it but it had me kind of excited when I got the email! I won?! Wow! And then oh, I won, hmmmm. It would be nice if it had worked out though, I love Kendra Scott!
    Happy Hump Day!

    1. Ha! Funny that we "won" at the same time. I almost wonder if everyone wins the raffle? Anyway, if not for blogger friends I wouldn't have even been able to have the party since I only had one non-blogger friend who was interested. She's commented on a lot of my Kendra Scott pieces so she was familiar with the brand that way and interested in checking it out. But you need at least FOUR friends, and I wouldn't have been able to pressure that many into attending! Ha! At least once we were at the store we didn't feel pressured to shop/purchase. The sales associates were very kind, friendly, and easy going.

  6. I really like the look you ultimately wore and think it was perfect for the occasion. I am definitely trying to shop my closet more instead of running out and buying something new for events. Your light grey blazer is such a versatile piece!

  7. That Color Bar party sounds like so much fun! Good to know that you don't actually have to win anything to plan one! I love that you picked classic wardrobe pieces in lieu of something trendy. It's a good reminder that we don't always need those trendy pieces. Classic is always in style!

    1. I agree! Especially with blogging it's easy to feel like we *have* to show the trends to stay relevant, even though I don't really believe that.

  8. I love that you ended up shopping your closet, and you look great! You can't beat a blazer + jeans combo, and that gray one is fantastic. Your husband's comment about the belt cracked me up--I never would have thought of that!

Love the new crossbody bag, it’s unique and looks like it will be perfectly functional for everyday use. 18. I have a question about your blazer. I bought a blazer at Express yesterday in size 8, and I’m usually a size 6. I realized after getting home that I can barely button it and was going to return it. But looking at yours, can you button it? Yours looks like it fits just like mine - perfect through the shoulders but doesnt look like it would comfortably button. I’d love to know if I should send mine back.

    1. Hi! That's a great question. No, I really cannot button this blazer. Well. I could button it but it would certainly come undone if I tried to move my arms at all. ;) Since I only wear it casually and don't need to button it, I didn't mind that it can't be buttoned since it fit how I wanted through the waist (that's my main thing...I like a defined waist) and shoulders otherwise. If I did need/want to button I would definitely have to go up a size or two. For your case it probably just depends on if you think you'll have a need or reason to wear it buttoned at some point?
