Flat Lay to Real Life + Link Up | On the Daily EXPRESS

Flat Lay to Real Life + Link Up

Lately I've been trying to spend a little less time on Instagram, so I've found myself heading to Pinterest instead when I have a few minutes to burn and feel like looking at some outfit inspo. I kind of forgot how much I enjoy Pinterest! Lots of great outfit inspiration, but less time consuming and not nearly as many temptations to buy things right now. I also get reminded to try different color pairings than I normally do, like the black and cognac combo in today's outfit. I'll share the inspiration set for this look a little further down in the post, but first I'll give you the scoop on what I'm wearing here.

Another thing Pinterest made me realize is I pin a lot of outfits with striped tops...but I have very few of them and I had zero with long sleeves. I decided to remedy that ASAP with this tee for under $20 from Amazon. I am so happy with this purchase! It's very comfortable, a good medium weight (not thin) and a nice relaxed fit (I'm wearing a size Small here). For reference, I'm 5'4" and it would also be long enough for me to wear with leggings. I'm sure that won't be the case if you're much taller than me, but it should still work for tucking in with other types of pants or skirts like I've done here. It was a little stiff and starchy straight out of the packaging so I washed and dried mine before wearing. That helped soften it up a lot and I do think it shrunk just a bit in the dryer but not much.

I wouldn't have thought to finish this outfit with cognac touches if not for having seen this look by Daily Style Finds on Pinterest:

I opted for a red bag instead of cognac, but since I added the belt I thought it gave a similar color balance. And speaking of my Double O-Ring Belt, it's just been re-stocked in all sizes in both colors! I regretted not getting the black one too, so once I saw it back in stock I ordered it ASAP. It's a great alternative to the popular Gucci belt without being an exact replica.

The weather flip-flops a bit here between jacket/no-jacket temps, so if you need a jacket option for this outfit I liked a denim jacket with mine.

Mine is originally from Nordstrom and sold out, but I linked a couple of similar options under $40 above. My black ripped knee jeans are true to size, and my Lucky Brand ankle boots are also sold out, but I do own this similar option and they are true to size with nice foot cushioning. (I have the Taupe version of the similar option, but they also come in cognac.)

Since I've been having fun re-visting Pinterest lately, I challenged my blogger friends Rachelle and Amy Ann to join in me in turning some Flat Lay looks into real life outfits. I hope you'll stop by their blogs today and see the Pins that inspired their looks below:

And before I sign off today, just in case you haven't heard: Shopbop is having a big sale right now. Their sales are the best way to save on popular brands like Tory Burch, Kate Spade and Rebecca Minkoff. This sale has a buy more, save more structure where the discount percentage increases with dollars spent:
via Shopbop

I'm planning to share a few more of my favorites from the sale in tomorrow's post, but after a quick glance I can tell you that this is a great time to snag some of the top trends for Spring/Summer, like Straw Bags (see my round-up of Brand Name vs. Budget Options) and the ever-popular Tory Burch Miller Sandals.

I am tempted to try a pair of Miller sandals myself to see if they live up to the hype, but I'd love to hear from any of you who have them. Are they really worth it? They do look like a cute, easy to grab-and-go sandal, but despite all your warnings to the contrary I'm still hooked on the idea of a white bag for Spring/Summer, so this sale might make me take the plunge! I feel like I'm at a stage of life where I could keep it clean pretty easily, so we'll see what happens with that. As always, thanks for reading and if you have a blog I hope you'll join us and link up below for Style on the Daily!

  1. I used to be on Pinterest all the time and then I got hooked on reading so many blogs I didn't spend much time there, recently I've found myself scrolling through again and pinning away! I love striped tops but they don't always look good on me. I've been so pleased with everything I've gotten from Amazon but I need to remind myself to look around there more often. That double O belt is a great piece!
As far as the TB Miller sandals go, everyone seems to love them! I would love a pair but I need a more cushioned footbed. They are classic and I bet you'd wear them with everything - I say go for it!

  2. I have 2 pairs of Miller sandals and I think they are worth the investment. I can’t remember the exact color names, but I have a patent nude color and a cognac like color. Reach for them time and again. They hold up well too

  3. Your striped tee is so cute and love this shade of blue. I say get your white bag, I've been wanting white footwear and I went for it and they are so cute. I just have to make sure to clean once in a while.

  4. Oh that's a great striped top! I have so many striped pieces in my wardrobe, they are the best print IMHO :)

Thank you for the link up!

Hope you are having a nice start to the week so far and you had a lovely weekend :)

  5. Love both of these looks. And you will NEVER regret the Miller sandals! I love mine.

  6. This is a great look and I love this concept of joining other bloggers and sharing a theme. So fun!

  7. Stripes are everywhere right now! I'm having to remind myself not to buy them all because then I'd never wear anything else! Ha but I do love them. I love how simple they are but they add a pop of interest. I am obsessed with that basket bag- so gorgeous! I have a vintage one I found last year and am trying to let that one serve instead of buying all the bags ;) <3 Jamie

  8. When I browse on pinterest I try to pin things I can recreate with items already in my closet. It's such great inspiration to look at my boards and see things I can wear instead of things I feel like I need to buy. I love the way you've made this look your own with a red bag. Black and cognac look so good together!

  9. Obviously I need to get on the Shopbop train. I'm feeling left out...LOL Love the black and cognac and I've been trying to get a little more Pinterest back in my life too. :)

  10. Since stepping back from instagram myself, I too have been on Pinterest way more lately and I love it! So much inspiration without the need to buy exact items. I think Insta has seen its day, I'm getting so over it!

Love the way you styled the flatlay and I prefer yours! The belt is such a cute touch! You ladies all look fab :)

  11. I love your look - and the pop of red! I think I need to get that belt (and a long sleeved striped shirt, too). I tried the Miller sandals, and they were not comfortable for me. I might have needed to size up a full size - but I gave up and didn't try them again.

  12. The Miller sandals are definitely worth the investment. I have a nude/tan pair and I love them so much! They go with everything. I've heard so many people advise to size up, but I found them to run TTS. Also, I wanted to let you know I ordered the Gucci dupe belt off of Amazon (because of one of your posts) and I have to say for under $20, I am so pleased! While it isn't the real thing, it sure is fun to pretend. :) Thanks for the tip!

    1. Oh I'm so glad to hear that belt was worth the $$! That's always the risk with suggesting products I haven't actually tried myself...they might not be that great. And thanks for the tip on the Millers! I'm pretty sure I will get a pair later this Spring even if I don't end up getting one during this particular sale.

  13. I love this idea of flatlay to real life outfit! I do a weekly Pinterest-inspired post and am doing an outfit for the first time in a while - doing that one and seeing your post reminds me that I should consult my Pinterest board more often! You can't go wrong with stripes, and I love the cognac accents too.

    1. I always enjoy your Pinterest series but didn't even realize until you mentioned it that you rarely do outfits! Off to check your post. :)

  14. I am super not careful and I got a white-ish purse at the Coach outlet in Hawaii almost a year ago and it still looks ALMOST brand new and I use it almost every day. It goes with everything!! Plus it’s the perfect size for me. Go for it! I think you’ll like having one!

    1. I need to see a pic of this purse! I think right now my big hold up is that there isn't a specific white bag I really love that I know will be functional enough. But sooner or later I will find one.

  15. I love pinning tons of images but I'm not really sure if they inspire me at the end of the day. I mean, obviously they do but I guess unconsciously! xx

  16. I love stripes and do have a few in my closet that I always reach for. They are just so easy to wear and their classic style is just so timeless. Love your outfit here and this is something I would totally wear. 😀

  17. I love the idea of this post Gina. You are always the flatlay queen. As always you put together a great, chic, everyday look without effort. Love the stripes!

Welcome by and join my special Celebration Thursday Moda linkup today! It is a good one, plus I think you'd like my look today. ;-) Thank you and have a great weekend! Ada =)

  18. I am so glad you inspired this post. It was so much fun, and I love how you brought this flat lay to life and styled it. I especially love the addition of the red bag.
