Neutral Cowl Neck Sweater + Link Up

|
In the past, I've always shied away from any type of cowl neck or turtleneck top or sweater. I've always like them on others, but I just thought they would be itchy and irritating on my neck. I also thought they wouldn't be flattering on my body type, and I honestly don't know how or why I got those ideas stuck in my head in the first place. It doesn't even make sense anymore! But in the past year or so I've been a little more adventurous about trying new-to-me styles so I decided to re-visit this style. And I'm so glad I did!

Outfit Details:
I really can't say enough good things about this cableknit cowl neck sweater. It's only $24 and the material is very soft and almost silky...0% itchy. It is a loose knit so I had to wear a cami underneath to stay warm (the wind blows right through it), so on the plus side I think the breathable knit plus neutral color will make it transition well into some warmer spring days. The product description calls this a bell sleeve and I was a bit worried about that being impractical, but these actually do taper back in a bit at the wrist so they aren't as fussy as a true bell sleeve for me. I'm wearing a Small in this, which is what I almost always wear in SheIn tops, but they run more like an XS in similar styles of Express tops. It's pretty rare for me not to wear a necklace, but I liked the clean look of this sweater all by itself. For another thing, I was concerned about any kind of necklace snagging the material and ruining the sweater so I decide to be on the safe side!

In other outfit notes, my jeans and boots run true to size so there's not too much more to say about them!  Express jeans are currently BOGO 50% off, which is a decent deal if need them right away. I'm guessing the next big sale there will be President's Day Weekend so for the time being I'm just making a little wishlist there and practicing patience!

Shopbop Sale:
Speaking of sales, one retailer who isn't waiting for President's Day for a treat sale is Shopbop. They're currently running 25% off all sale styles with code GETLUXE.

Designer bags are my personal favorite category to check out during their sales since some of my favorites (e.g. Kate Spade, Rebecca Minkoff, and Tory Burch) get marked way down. This isn't a storewide sale so there's not a huge selection of options on sale for these brands, but here are a few of the styles currently available:

I am debating whether to get an upgraded red bag or a white bag next. Last time I mentioned white bags several of you commented that they were hard to keep clean so I'm keeping that in mind...but I still really like the idea and think it would work well a good portion of my wardrobe so I haven't given up on it yet!

  2. This sweater looks great on you, good thing you gave this style a go. A white bag sounds good but yea I would think it would be a hassle to keep it clean.

    1. Thanks Rachelle! And yes...I don't think I set my bag a lot of places where it would get dirty but it might be something I don't noticed until I have it!

  4. I think I've always had the same notions about turtlenecks, which is why I don't own very many. I hate itchy sweaters so an itchy turtleneck sounds like torture--but I need to find one that's soft and cozy like that one. I love it on you!

    1. Thank you Shea! I think it also helps that this isn't fitted around the neck so it doesn't feel restrictive.

  5. Oh, this is such a cute look! I LOVE this sweater. I think because it's a cowl neck it's not as irritating as a turtle neck can be. Those sleeves are just darling. LOVE the bag and OTK boots too!

    1. Thanks Laura! I also think it's been helpful that they've made their sizes a little more in line with US sizes! I've had much better luck with fit lately.

  7. Sometimes I have a fear of cowl necks too, but honestly, they're just so flattering. I have quite a few I adore. I think I associate them with the 80's & 90's. Your hair looks so cute in the pony!

    1. Oh that's funny...I did actually wear turtlenecks a lot more in the 80s and 90s. So I took at least a decade off from wearing them! Luckily I don't believe in the whole "if you wore it the first time you can't wear it again!" thing!

  9. Cute sweater! I think cowl necks are really flattering because they frame the face nicely :) I have a white bag and it's really easy to care for because it's faux leather. Just don't get suede - white suede would be killer to keep clean! But I think a nice lighter leather would be good. I'm itching for a new bag for Spring/Summer but am waiting for the perfect one - if it exists!

  13. You look good in a cowl neck. I know what you mean about itchy - I stay clear of those. I keep debating getting a red or white bag, too. I just stick with "basic/boring" black.
