Everyday Outfits + TGIF 12/22/17

Since late November, I've been feeling like everyone I follow on social media has way more holiday events to attend than I do. Fast forward to this week and there's been some kind of holiday event almost every day. None that required anything especially dressy or festive as far as outfits (unfortunately for me since I love a good excuse to dress up), but at least it helped me feel like it really is the holiday season and not just another average month! As usual I'm sharing the everyday outfits I wore this week along with a few notes on how items fit, plus my new-ish TGIF series! Oh, and it looks like Express is having another storewide 50% off sale! Most of the jeans I'm wearing are included in the sale so I'll note those below.

Outfit Recap Part 1:

1. Camel Sweater, Black Jeans, Leopard Booties:
Fit Notes: I've wanted a couple of options for fitted sweaters this year since I think they can look a little dressier and more polished. This is my second one from the Pattyboutik brand on Amazon (see the grey one in this post) and it consistently runs smaller than brands like Express or Old Navy. I'm wearing a size Small in this and it's still fitted. Some reviewers mentioned the arms being very small but I didn't find them any different than other brands in similar, fitted items. The side of this sweater has a cute lace up detail that I didn't capture well with this photo, but you can see it in the product photo. The material is nice and warm (it's actually warmer than the black striped sweater shown below even though it may not look it) and not itchy. Although I will say I rarely wear anything that touches my neck, and this does come up onto my neck, so that's not my favorite part about it, but it was tolerable. This comes in six colors altogether with several great neutral so it was tough deciding which color to get!

My black ripped knee jeans from Abercrombie run true to size. I think they're actually a bit more flattering than my black jeans from Express, hence the reason I wore them twice this week! They are called Low Rise but I don't find them much lower at all than my mid-rise jeans from Express.

2. Black Stripe Oversize Sweater, Ripped Knee Jeans:
Sweater (c/o) | Jeans (50% off) | Similar Boots | Necklace | Crossbody Bag (c/o)

Fit Notes: This black striped sweater c/o Romwe runs somewhat big and oversized. I'm wearing a Small here and it's plenty roomy. Even though it's thick, it's actually not as warm as you might think - it's kind of any open cable knits so the wind blows right through it. I actually had to wear a cami with it. But the fabric passes the test in terms of comfort (it's not itchy at all).

My Express jeans are true to size, and the distressing looks a bit different on me than in the stock photo, but this is the exact pair. I'm not sure if it just varies from pair to pair or if the threading didn't last past my initial wearing. Either way, I'm loving them for a medium/lighter wash pair of ripped-knee jeans.

3. Grey Sweater with Lace Trim, Black OTK Boots:
Lace Trim Sweater | Jeans (50% off) | Boots | Crossbody Bag (50% off)

Fit Notes: It's hard for me to believe it myself, but I've had much better luck with SheIn/Romwe sweaters this year than Express sweaters! While I do receive items in exchange for posting them on the blog (always denoted as c/o or courtesy of), I also shop there with my own money and this is one of my own purchases. I thought the lace neckline was a fun touch to an otherwise basic piece. The v-neck also comes up fairly high which is nice good coverage. This fabric is the thinnest of all the sweaters this week: great for warmer climates, but you'll need a cami underneath if you live somewhere cold. I'm wearing a Small in this and it fits as I would expect for a Small. The sleeves are just a little long and wide at the bottom for me, but I can live with that for the $15 price tag.

Outfit Recap Part 2:

4. Neutral Cardigan, White Tee, Charcoal Jeans:
Similar White Tee | Jeans (50% off) | Cardigan  | Shoes | Necklace (c/o)

Fit Notes: If you only get one pair of jeans during this Express sale, this pair is my top recommendation! They're comfortable, flattering, true to size, and you don't have to worry about fading like you would with normal black jeans because they're already perfectly faded. You can see a previous outfit with these jeans here.

5. Drape Neck Cardigan
Cardigan (c/o) | White Tank | Jeans | Boots | Bag (c/o) | Earrings

Fit Notes: My full post for this outfit (plus updates on my sugar reduction lifestyle and more) is here. In short this wrap cardigan is "One Size" but best for size XS or Small.  Jeans and boots are true to size.

6. Mohair Sweater Jacket

Fit Notes: My full post for this outfit (along with my top three favorite new beauty products for 2017) can be found here. Shortened details: This "One Size" sweater jacket is best for sizes XS and Small. It's very soft and comfortable and also comes in pink. My pumps and jeans are true to size.

I recently started a new Friday post series where I use the T.G.I.F. acronym to share whatever random words and topics come to mind for each of the letters. Here's my list this week!

T- Time...
...off for the holidays. I'll be taking time off from the blog and social media on the Monday the 25th to celebrate the holiday and focus on family. Most likely my next post will be Wednesday the 27th. If I find myself with some down time over the break and feel like blogging, I may try to put together my favorite books of 2017 for next Tuesday's book linkup...but I'm not making any promises!

G- Game...
...night! On Thursday night (so last night if you're reading this on Friday morning) we're taking the family to a San Diego State vs. Gonzaga basketball game. Basketball is one of my favorite sports to watch in person, but I haven't been to a game in years, so I'm possibly a little too excited about this!

I- Interrogate...
...your Children. I loved This Pin with 29 ways to ask your kids "How Was School Today?" and get more than a one-word answer! It is tough for me to get any kind of info out of my oldest, but I tried some of these questions on him and learned quite a lot about his school life that I didn't know. I wouldn't say he enjoyed the interrogation, but at least it was less predictable than "how was your day?" so he was more cooperative than when I ask the same thing for the ten millionth time. I'm honestly thinking about trying some of these with my spouse. Not that he doesn't communicate, but we both run out of things to say about our day besides, "it was fine."

F- Four...
...words to make it count on Instagram. This article says that for a comment to count towards your engagement on Instagram, it needs to have at least four words. Mind you, this article is a year old now and no source is given for that statistic so take it for what it's worth, but it does make some sense. Like everyone else, since all of the algorithm changes engagement has been a struggle for me. I'm trying to help support my friends by making sure my comments are four words, e.g.: "That's such a cute top!" vs. "Cute top." It's not difficult per se, but it does take a bit of conscious effort! And you know...I wouldn't mind at all if my friends did the same for me! (Subtle hint! Ha!)

And that's it for today! Have a wonderful holiday if you celebrate and if you don't, have a great extended weekend and I'll "see" you here next week!

  1. First of all, I love that camel sweater on you and the fitted look is perfect on you. I love them with the leopard boots as well. I've been on the fence with getting leopard boots. I have shoes..do I need boots. They look great on you. I've seen that article on "interrogating" your kids before and after taking its advice, I completely agree. I'll ask them more direct questions like what's the funniest thing that happened today? What didn't you like in your lunch today? It does get them talking more. And although I've been a little absent on instagram these days, I was always suspicious of the "perfect!" and "nice" one word or one word plus emoji comments. Have a nice weekend Gina, and a Merry Christmas.

    1. Thank you so much Megan- leopard boots are definitely a better option than shoes in late fall/winter. I got mine a couple of years ago and and have used them every year since...so I say they're worth it. I hope you had a great Christmas!

  2. Hope you had a great time this week going to all your holiday events ;) I am loving all these sweaters!! The camel sweater with those cheetah booties is an outfit you can totally wear for holiday gatherings!!

    1. Thank you! The events were mostly for kids but luckily there were some nice adults to visit with too. :)

  3. I am loving your two Romwe sweaters! The striped one is so cute and looks perfectly cozy! I really like the lace detail on the grey one too! You've definitely had some great luck with sweaters from there this year! They look fabulous on you!

    1. I really have! And it's not for lack of trying at other stores. I've bought and returned more than I could count.

  4. Your sweater collection is starting to become just as diverse as your bag collection! The lace trim is my favorite of this bunch! And I’m enjoying your TGIF series. I had not heard of the four word rule so I will definitely be reciprocating!

    1. Ha! I was really lacking in the sweater department and just wanted some easy throw-on-and-go warmer tops that don't require the thought and effort that goes into layering! And thank you in advance for your reciprocation! :)

  5. I love your everyday style! So chic and comfy looking!
