Olive Ruffle Hem Jacket + Monday Motivation

|
Well, I am not feeling ready for another Monday at all, but Mondays are a mandatory part of life so here we go again! I spent a good part of the weekend doing a seasonal closet sorting and managed to get my husband and kids to go through theirs, too. It wasn't anybody's favorite weekend activity and it doesn't have me feeling rested and ready to take on a new week, but it felt good to be productive. I'm sharing a little more about the struggle to stay on top of everything in my Monday Motivation series today, but first, let's talk clothes.

This outfit might look very familiar from this post...the only difference is I'm wearing jeans here instead of shorts. The pictures were actually from the same day, just taken at different times when I alternated shorts/pants as the weather fluctuated throughout the day.

Fit Notes: My jacket runs true-to-size with a roomy/boxy fit. My jeans are from Express earlier this year and I'm sorry to see they are already sold out. I'll keep an eye out for a re-stock, but in the meantime this pair looks fairly similar and reasonably priced. My bag looks to be sold out in my color, but the black (which I also own) is still available.

Monday Motivation: Balancing it all...or not
Lately I've been feeling like I am never going to be caught up on things around the house. Despite the fact that we did a good closet cleaning this weekend, staying on top of the other stuff like pictures (we take so many in this day and age with our smartphones always in hand, and blogging on top of that takes the picture load to a ridiculous level), files, mail, paperwork, and de-cluttering is exhausting if not impossible to keep up on all of it. It's the whole "shoveling snow in a snowstorm" feeling. I love a clean, organized space, but wow is it a time consuming and never-ending project!

I'm also finding that two of my New Year Goals/Values this year (posted here) tend to conflict with each other. It's tough to strike a balance between effective time management (including productivity) and building strong relationships. If I'm killing it on the domestic front and staying caught up on household chores, paperwork, picture sorting etc., it probably means I'm not spending much quality time with friends and family!

I wish I had some solutions or helpful hints to share here but unfortunately that's not the case today. Maybe this week I just needed to commiserate because I'm pretty sure everyone can relate to this in some way. I am motivated to keep trying and making what little progress I can rather than give up entirely, but I can't help wishing for a better solution and a point where I truly feel caught up. How do you all stay on top of things? Or how do you stay at peace when staying on top isn't an option anymore?  As always, I'm very much looking forward to your feedback on this one!

  1. This outfit is perfect, love it with the ripped jeans. I think we all face the same dilemma, like this weekend I spent time with family and it was good but I'm behind on everything else. Next weekend I'll prioritize getting organized, it's about finding balance. We cannot do it all.

    1. I like your idea of sort of alternating weekends to balance productivity vs. fun and family time! I know life doesn't always work that way (where you can make your plans alternate like that) but it's a good "big picture" perspective.

  2. I constantly feel like I am trying to find a balance between everything in my life and something inevitably suffers no matter what I do. I love those distressed jeans! I hope they come back in stock! I feel like I have such a long list of things I want from Express when I am back to my normal size!

    1. Yes, Express has so much good stuff this season! You're at the finish line with pregnancy so you'll be there soon. :) And glad to know I'm not alone in the balance struggle!

  3. I agree that you cannot do it all! So I just do the best I can at balancing. Usually that means household stuff gets set aside for later unless it's an emergency! And I've decided catching up my photo albums can wait a bit longer til they're my main focus.

    1. I like the idea of just mentally setting some things aside entirely as "not a priority" right now. It seems like that might reduce the stress a bit if it's categorized differently...even if it's only in my head! LOL!

  4. Love those jeans! I'll have to keep an eye out for them too!

I constantly feel like I'm behind on organizing, even though I clean everyday throughout the week since I'm home. Not sure what the right thing to do is either! I think just tackling one area at a time helps ;)

    1. Saaaame here! I am home and feel like I spend time constantly sorting and organizing but it's never really enough. And certainly never done! I do like the idea of doing one area at a time so at least that one area can be done!

  5. These are huge issues for me: trying to keep my home organized and manage relationships and work. I agree with you on the need to keep trying. And Rachel's focus on family one weekend, home organization next weekend.A few times I have hired a personal organizer- the positive impact lasted a few years. Sometimes spending money on an expert organizer frees the mind. RG

    1. Thank you for commenting! :) How cool that you've you had success with a home organizer! I would love to hear about that process! I always loved watching "Clean Sweep" with Peter Walsh on TLC. And I loved his book "It's All Too Much" just as much. His organizing tips were so helpful and motivating. I can imagine how nice it would be to meet with someone like that for your specific situation!

  6. I do really love this jacket on you! And girl, you know my struggle with balance. It's so hard to be good at and ONE thing without something suffering as a result. But great that you were productive with the closet this weekend! That was such a big feat for me two weekends ago and it's STILL organized now which makes me so happy. It feels good.

    1. Hopefully when your Pilates training is complete you'll feel like you can find better balance again! It's just been such a huge time commitment I know it would throw anyone's life out of balance!

  7. I love olive green anything, so I'm quite smitten with this look.

Balance is SO hard- I feel like when I throw myself into making something work (creating content for the blog, building my social following, or relaxing with pals in real life), something else suffers. Plates spinning in the air, always!

  8. Oh, I love your jacket here!! Too cute.

I think it's difficult to balance everything. It's like the statement about women doing it all - yes, they can, but all at once. And I think that's true for everyone. We can get things done, work on relationships, etc. but we sometimes have to juggle or prioritize one over the other at times.

  9. The peplum hem is such a nice detail on that jacket! Definitely makes it a little more feminine than your average olive jacket. I did a seasonal swap of my closet this weekend, too, and it was such a project! I can believe that doing it for your whole family in one weekend must have been rough.

  10. Such a great fall look. I really need to find a shorter utility jacket. I like the length and shape of this one.
