Messy Bun, Camo Jeans + Monday Motivation

|
In case I haven't mentioned it lately, I really do not enjoy styling my hair. At all. I don't mind doing makeup, but hair is something I dread. I try to make it as quick as possible, but living with three boys (not to mention growing up with five brothers), it always takes me longer to style my hair than everyone else I live with! So by comparison I constantly feel like my hair always takes me "too long." I bought this messy bun hair piece back in June and it's been my favorite "beauty" purchase this year (probably even this decade!) because it saves me so much time and frustration with my hair!

Up until now I've been trying to plan blog picture days around the days that I style my hair down, but since that's the minority of the time I decided to just go with the reality and take pictures when it's convenient rather than when my hair is "done."

In case you missed it when I first shared this in June, here's the before and after of how it looks from the back:
Before (all natural "messy bun") | After (with this hair piece in Platinum Blonde)

As for my outfit, I'm gradually working my way through the six outfit ideas I put together for camo jeans in this post. This is pretty similar to the third outfit option in that post:

I'm wearing my normal size in all of the pieces above. I do think she shoes run just a little bit big for me, and I possibly could have gone a half-size down. But I was lazy and didn't want to return/exchange them, so I kept them in my normal size and can't say for sure if a half-size down would have been better or not! But if you vary between shoe sizes I'd say go with the smaller of the two.

Monday Motivation: And I was like...
Last week, I listened to some blogger-oriented podcasts, and a couple of them had guests who were being interviewed by the main host. I listened to only three episodes in total from two different podcasts, but in two of the episodes, I had to turn it off because the guests were saying the word "like" sooooo many times it drove me crazy. And these were intelligent, successful people talking, not just a random Valley Girl off the street. It was frustrating because they were sharing useful information that I wanted to hear, but when "like" is used for every third word, it's like...really annoying and it was hard to get past it to glean the useful information. I'm not naming names because I don't want to insult, nor can I judge the guests or presume that I would do better. I've never done a podcast and I imagine it's very difficult to be interviewed and attempt to give thoughtful, eloquent responses on the fly.

Then at a separate time last week, I was having a conversation with my husband and I started to hear myself saying, "like"...probably as much as the podcast guests! That made me decide that for my Monday Motivation I want to work on "curing" myself of this habit ASAP! This week I am really going to focus on my speech habits and make a conscious effort to avoid saying "like" as a filler.

I have to apologize to you in advance because now that you've read all this, you're most likely to notice exactly how much people say "like" for the rest of the day and it's probably going to annoy you too! Let me know if you have experience correcting any of your speech patterns or if you've observed the same "like" epidemic as I have!

  1. You style your camo so well and love the messy bun. Lol I work with mostly men so I don't think they say like as often, but yea it can get annoying.

    1. That's such an interesting point that I hadn't thought of until your comment, but now that you mention it, it really does seem that women do this way more than men!! That is so bizarre!

  2. Love this look at you! and yes "like" is an epidemic. What blogger podcasts do you listen to btw? Always on the hunt for new podcasts!

    1. I like Hashtag Authentic and The Influencer Podcast. I've really enjoyed their content for the most part, minus the specific not-to-be-named guests who were like, completely over the top with the "like" usage! :)

  3. Oh Snapchat has made me very aware of how many times I say "like." It's super annoying. I don't talk like that in work settings during work meetings so I'm not sure why it turns on when I'm in a more casual talking setting!
Hair and blog photos is what I hate the most about photos to be honest. Especially when I'm trying to take multiple photos of different outfits in the same day and wanting to have different hairstyles for different outfits just as I would do on a regular day to day basis!
But back to you! Haha! The messy bun is adorable and you know I love the camo!!

    1. I love hearing other people's experiences with all of this from the hair to the "like"! I don't post it just to talk about myself. :P That's funny that Snapchat made you notice the "like" in yourself though! And yes, you do have a lot of great hairstyles so I'm sure that's challenging to get your photos to accurately reflect that! I hadn't really thought of that before but it makes perfect sense.

  4. I am so hoping those jeans are available in a few months because I want them, but am scared to buy them without trying them on. They are adorable on you!

    1. They've kept them in stock since summer (which is pretty amazing for Express!) so I think there's a good chance you can still get them post-baby! :)

  5. Haha I've noticed that with people before (saying "like")! I'll have to check myself! When I didstudent teaching a looong time ago, we were told to NOT use the word "ok", because it was overused. It's definitely helpful to be aware of your speech patterns! And I like the messy bun! Not to mention the cute outfit! I tried on Camo pants, but think I'll stick with a Cami t shirt. Where did you get your camo t shirt again?

    1. Oh boy...now I have to start listening for "ok" too?!! Ha! I think I can only handle one issue at a time! LOL! My camo t-shirt came in a 3-pack set from Shopbop (Find it here). It's on the pricey side (I got it during a recent sale), and I think you might find the v-neck deeper than you want. Target has a cute one for only $13! (See it here.)

  6. You look gorgeous Gina! I think you look amazing with your hair up! And that RM bag is such a beautiful color. I have to admit that I probably say like a lot. I often feel flustered when I speak to people so it's a nervous tick! Definitely going to try my best to curtail it ;)

    1. Haha, don't worry, I haven't noticed it on you. Maybe if you did a podcast I'd notice it! LOL! This is mostly something I want to fix in myself. :)

  7. As much as I adore these camo pants I just CAN'T in my town. Too many people wear camo gear for reals and I do not want to be one of them. (Think hunting/outdoors gear but as an actual outfit...🙄) But you make it look cute, that's for sure! Love the messy bun 'do. Glad you're photographing it because it looked super cute with the outfit! "Like" "um" "ok" "uh" ... lots of fillers that are bad habits for many people, myself included! I think it's funny you couldn't stand to listen to it! 😂

    1. Funny, your husband had a similar comment on Instagram about a camo tee that I wore (the same one your sister-in-law was talking about above!! LOL! #keepitinthefamily). I totally get it. It took me quite awhile to warm up to wearing it even here because I see military people wearing it all the time. Now I'm over it, but that's still different than your issue.

And yes...so many vocabulary fillers! I often wonder how difficult that makes it for non-native English speakers to understand us!

  8. My version of 'like' is 'gonna' I realized I say it waaaaaay too much! Even my talk to text adds it in because I say it so often! I'm gonna stop!

    1. LOL! In texting it doesn't count. But you HAVE done a podcast and I don't remember that being an issue at all so you're one step ahead!

  10. So cool that I have been seeing your pretty face more lately Gina. My hair is the same length now and it doesn't always look great in a ponytail or a bun, but yours does. Such a cute Fall look! Love thew booties and cardigan!

Welcome by today and then tomorrow babe, for a New Thursday Moda linkup, so link up with me. Thanks, Ada. =)

  11. that hair piece is so interesting. i might have to see if they have one similar to my hair colour because i also hate doing my hair. my hair is so thin and fine that when i do waste time on it, it never looks as amazing as someone with glorious thick hair.
every time someone brings up like and how often it is used, i pay attention for the rest of the day. it is impossible to not use the word though, when it is appropriate and to talk about similar things, or start a sentence, you know? i only think it's awful when it's every other word or used like 'um' or 'uh'. when i get nervous i say use more fillers like that than actual words i think haha.
