Floral Statement Boots + Monday Motivation

This fall, there have been so many trends that I've wanted to try. Velvet, chenille, hot pink everything, and statement boots to name a few! I don't know if I've changed and like more trends than usual, or if it's just a coincidence that more of the trends this year appeal to me! Either way, statement boots were on my list to try and even though I'm not usually into floral print, I thought maybe a small dose like these boots might be doable as a gateway item for me.

Fit Notes: I normally wear a 7.5 in shoes and ordered a 38 in these floral statement boots. At first I thought they were going to be a little too snug, but they seemed to stretch a bit with wear and the size didn't bother me by the end of the day. I will say they were very warm on my feet, but that might also be due to the hot weather we had last week!

This cardigan is very soft and comfortable. It's more casual and more like a sweatshirt material than the other burgundy cardigan I shared in this post. I'm wearing a small here and the bottom of the sleeves are wider than I prefer, but so far just pushing them up seems to work for me.

My faux black dress is actually a Target tank and Express stretchy skirt (both options no longer available). It's probably easier to just wear a tank dress to create this look, so I linked a couple of options for that. I did also find a couple of separate pieces too if that's more appealing to you.

I'm 100% sure these boots won't become a wardrobe staple, but it's fun to try a few trends like this, especially when they're easy to throw into an outfit with all of your other basics!

Monday Motivation: The not-so-sweet life
Last Wednesday I mentioned a book I've been reading (The Obesity Code) and how it made me re-evaluate my daily sugar intake and start taking steps to reduce it. Several of you commented how you've been on the same track, and it wouldn't be far off to say that misery loves company in this case! Ha! My first week of Operation Sugar Reduction was tough, so it was encouraging to hear from those of you with similar goals.

My first step was cutting out the obvious offenders like cookies, baked goods, and candy. I usually allow myself some of those things every day, and I'm trying to change that habit to only having them as occasional treats, e.g. 1-2 times per week and holidays. That change alone was tough last week! I didn't enjoy it, I wanted to bake all the fall things, and I kept asking myself, "Can I really keep this up as a lifestyle?" I honestly don't know the answer to that, and I think I picked the very worst time of year to do this with Halloween and the Holidays upon us! But I do know that even though I missed the sweets, at the very least I felt less guilty about my sugar consumption. Thanks to that tiny feeling of victory, I'm motivated to keep moving in the right direction!

  2. Oh it was hard for me too, not only I stopped the sugary daily treats but I'm trying to choose good carbs. Like more brown rice, whole grain rye bread and veggies and no pasta. During the week I was fine but come the weekend I had pasta and ice cream. So to maintain my sanity I decided to save a couple of treats for the weekend. I love this look and your booties are so fun, also love the location of your pics.

  4. Those boots are the cutest! I have a hard time with sugar too, especially this time of year. I try to drink a glass of water when I get a craving or set a timer for 15 minutes to focus on something else. It doesn't work every time but I guess it's better than just grabbing a cookie!

  5. I love sugar, so it's hard for me to limit it too. For a few years I've tried to stick to only allowing myself treats a couple times week and holiday, like you're gojng for. Sometimes I stick to that just fine and sometimes I totally fail (like this time of year lol). I have major respect for people who cut sugar all togrther!

  6. Ohhh man, I have such a hard time with sweets. Really diet in general. I just love food. I try so hard to be healthy. In general, I try to be really good during the week then allow myself way more freed than I probably should on the weekend. I feel like lately with Ivy being sick, I've been allowing myself more treats during the week though. Not good! Loving these fun boots and your cute dress! Oh and seeing your pretty self! :)

  7. You look so pretty! This is definitely a departure from what I'm used to seeing on you but I really love this whole look! The colors are gorgeous :)

    Good for you for eliminating sweet treats! I need to do the same but with dairy. I'm not really into sweets but I eat wayyyyy too much cheese and I think it's messing up my system because I get bloated easily. Oh and I need to cut back on wine too, which is basically all sugar so there you go!

  8. It's so much fun to try out trends. I like that so many trends this season are wearable to work or for my casual lifestyle which makes them appeal to me more, too. Those boots are adorable and I love how the burgundy cardigan really helps bring out some of the color in them!

  11. the holidays are the hardest time for me with eating, especially now that all the halloween candy is everywhere. the girls at work know what candy i like so they are always filling up the office candy jar with starburst. i lost my sweet tooth a bit after australia, don't know why, but i can't resist starburst. work is my downfall, i can normally behave at home. it's easy because i do not bake at all. that's good that you felt less guilty though! for me, replacing with something 'sweet' but not fake sweet helps a lot. like honey in my tea or honey on toast. or even having a smoothie for breakfast - full of natural sugars, sure, but it's not candy!
