What's Up September | On the Daily EXPRESS

What's Up September

Today I'm joining What's Up Wednesday for an end of the month, behind-the-blog life update. You can view the prompt questions for this post here, or just read on to find out what's been going on around here lately! I'm also co-hosting Style on the Daily with Amy Ann and we'd love to have you link up with us at the end of the post.

What I'm wearing:
My go-to combo of cami + lightweight cardigan or jacket is back on repeat this fall. I have this long cardigan in the rust color (as seen here) and it's the perfect weight for early Fall here. It's only $25 and comes in size Small - XL. I normally wear XS in cardigans at Express, the Small in this worked great, but I don't think you need to size up if your normal size is available.

What I'm loving:
Now that it's officially Fall, I switched from my all-white summer nails back to my standard Pinkish-Whites and Whitish-Pinks. I'm not very loyal when it comes to the brand and color, so anytime I see an option that looks good, I try it just in case it's better than what I'm already using. I have been loving "Beyond the Pale Pink" and "It's Pink PM" from the OPI Infinite Shine line. They go on easily and are opaque in two coats, and they last longer on my nails (paired with my favorite top coat combo, also shown below) than my previous favorites did. The two shades are very similar in real life. Beyond the Pale Pink has more white, and It's Pink PM has slightly more pink. I'm actually wearing "It's Pink PM" in my outfit picture above, but it always photographs a bit more white than I think it looks in real life.

I also switched my pedicure back to my longtime favorite, Essie Flowerista (shown above), my favorite for early Fall and all of Spring.

What I've been up to:
September has been equal parts fun and challenging. Getting into the swing of things with school and kids activities has been hectic and the Middle School homework load is no joke. But we also had some really fun and exciting things this month that you may have caught on my Instagram Story. From a trip to Phoenix, a fun horseback ride through Wine Country, and an amazing experience at a U2 Concert, all in all it was a good month.

What I'm working on:
Photography. Ughhhh. I really didn't think it would be this difficult to learn how to take better blog photos! I thought you just needed the right equipment (DSLR + Lightroom!), but I grossly underestimated how difficult it would be to learn how to use that equipment properly. If I can get a handle on the camera situation maybe I'll think about learning Lightroom, but the camera is all I can handle right now. I'm currently doing the photography Mini Course from FroKnowsPhoto. This graphic should pop-up on the right hand side of his home page if you're interested in signing up for it yourself.

I found him on YouTube and really like his teaching style. I find the videos a bit easier to understand than the books or blogs I've read, particularly when it comes to explaining the difference in camera settings. The mini course is free, and it's 11 days of instructional videos. Each one is only 3-5 minutes long so it's nice that it's not a major time commitment. I'm halfway through and so far they've all taught me something worthwhile. I'll probably purchase his full course when I'm done with this just because I need all the help I can get, plus I appreciate the time and effort he already put into his free content.

What I'm excited about:
My ShopBop sale order! You can see my picks and get the discount code in this post. I ordered the asymmetric jacket and this bag I mentioned in the post, along with this 3-pack of T-shirts. Rachelle swears by this brand and the camo shirt just looked perfect. I love that it comes with Amazon Prime shipping, so I should have everything by the weekend! If you don't have a Prime account and are thinking about getting one/wish you had one for this sale, you can try it free for 30-Days! Just click here to get started.

What I'm watching:
Dancing with the Stars! I've only watched the first episode, but so far Lindsay and Jordan are my favorites.

What I'm reading:
The Happiness Hypothesis on Audible (loving the book but not liking the narrator) and The Alibi by Sandra Brown (struggling to get through this!). Full reviews will be in my October Book Reviews on October 10!

What I'm listening to:
Haim's latest album, Something to Tell You. It's been four long years since their last album (which I also loved) and I'm glad to finally have some new tunes from them.

What I'm doing this weekend:
Right now my only official plans are chauffeuring kids to their practices and lessons plus a coffee date with a friend. But it's only Tuesday as I'm writing this so I'm sure a few more blanks in the calendar will get filled in by Friday.

What I'm looking forward to next month:
The new Colleen Hoover book being released on October 3! At this rate I should be able to finish my current book by then so I can start it the day it's released. I've never tried to plan my reading around a book release before so we'll see how it goes. I guess it's pretty dull that my big excitement of October is a book release! Not too much on the calendar beyond the ordinary stuff right now so I might have to plan something fun to change that!

Thanks for reading today and have a good week!

  1. Loving the jeans and booties combo, I need to start wearing my booties again. Now that it's "Fall". Hope you love the tees as much as I do.

  2. You've had a fun month! The horseback ride through wine country sounds amazing! I love your polish colors! Hope you are having a great week!

  3. Photography is challenging. It has taken Russ and I a long time to get where we are, and I feel like there is still work to be done. You are doing great! I love that cardigan. Excited to see your sale purchases in action.

  5. I love this fall look! Long cardigans are so flattering.

  6. You picked a great spot for pictures! It's fun to scout new places for outfit photos, although challenging!

And yay, you got the bag that I thought would be perfect for you! That shape and style is so versatile. I didn't take part in the sale because I ordered a new bag from a French company :) A new handbag is probably the most satisfying way to spend money on your wardrobe, at least for me!

  7. I am always looking to up my photography game. Thanks for sharing the course you are taking! I will be checking that out!

  8. Photography is a work in progress for me too. Its not as easy as it looks for sure!

  9. Essie Flowerista is also one of my faves! Such a good, saturated color! And I can't even imagine the homework situation! Good luck with that! Excited to see how your shopbop order turns out!

  10. Yeah for the shopbop sale! Any tips on photography help me!

  11. i can't wait for the new colleen hoover book! i haven't read a lot of her stuff because i feel like by the time i get to them, there's too much hype or good/bad reviews from my goodreads friends, so i am excited to get this one and read it before i can be swayed by other people's opinions lol

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! I sincerely appreciate each and every one and always do my best to answer questions promptly!
