Burgundy Cami + Neutral Cardigans

|
Last week I had a fun blogger day date with Noelle where we met to chat about life and blogging, plus throw in a little outfit photo session for good measure. We only live about an hour away from each other, but that's just enough distance to make it tough to get together on a regular basis with our different schedules. So photo credit for today goes to Noelle, and you can check out her blog today to see how well I did (or not, most likely!) playing photographer for her!

We had a fun visit and a lot of laughs in our photo session since it was pretty much the blind leading the blind. I used her camera to take her outfit pictures and vice versa, but neither of us are that familiar with our cameras to be able to guide anyone else in using them. Noelle's husband usually operates their camera, and mine is new to me (as with all things photography in general) so I was totally clueless beyond telling her to, "point it at me and push this button to make it go. But wait for that guy to pas in the background!" I've since ordered a couple of books and watched some YouTube videos (like this one) in an attempt to learn more and improving since I feel way out of my league. This photography stuff is not coming easy to me at all so kudos to all the bloggers and photography buffs who've already gone through this steep learning curve. I've had a lot of feelings of being overwhelmed and thinking, "this is too complicated for me, I'll never be able to do this," but I'm trying to stay positive and just accept that with learning something new you have to start somewhere, and most of the time it's at the bottom!

Fit Notes:
All of the pieces I'm wearing ran true to size. The cami runs on the bigger side of normal, so if you're between sizes I recommend sizing down, but it's not big enough that you necessarily need to. It also comes with adjustable straps which I really appreciate since I can control how high/low it sits on my chest that way.  If burgundy isn't your color preference it also comes in Black, White and Light Blue.

Neutral/Oatmeal Cardigans
One of my year round closet staples is a neutral cardigan. I tend to reach for this "oatmeal" color more often than any other because it goes with almost everything. I have a couple of different options now because I like having lighter weight and heavier weight options depending on the weather, plus slightly longer or shorter silhouettes of the cardigan depending on the proportions of the outfit. If you don't have one yourself yet or are ready for another option in your closet, here are a few options from high to low-end price points that are currently in stock with good size selections.
1. Shop Joie  ("Bryna") | 2. Shop Pam & Gela ("Shredded Cardigan")
3Abercrombie  | 4Abercrombie | 5Old Navy $35 | 6Target $25
7Budget Cardigan $23 | 8Budget Cardigan $26

Hope you're having a great week so far and I'll see you on Friday for my everyday outfit recap!

  1. Oh my goodness the photography part of blogging is so overwhelming! My husband and I have no idea what we're doing, definitely learning a little (very little actually) as we go but there's just so much that seems foreign to me. I've thought of taking a class and I still might. I'm glad you linked the YouTube video, I'll definitely check that out. I need all the help I can get, lol!

    1. I'm thinking the same thing re: a class! I think I'm going to need some hands on, in person assistance.

  2. Noelle did a good job, honestly youtube is all you need and get in the habit of practicing. Even if it's on random objects at homes, it is not difficult, just a new skill. Love this look, I have an oatmeal cardi and I reach out for it often as well.

    1. That's a good point...I think I just need to practice on stuff in general aside from just outfit photos.

  4. That's a cute burgundy cami! I like pairing camis and cardigans together, I did it a little in our autumn a few months ago. It's starting to warm up a little too much now for cardigans, but I haven't packed them away just yet!

Thank you for the link up!

Hope you are having a lovely start to the week :)

  5. It's great that you had a blogging friend available to take your pictures. When I could, I would ask my husband/non-blogging friend and they would take like one picture and hand my phone back to me. I was like, no, you don't understand. You have to take like fifty pictures. I love the look of the cardigan over a cami and thanks for all of the links. I never think to buy clothes from Amazon and you linked one cute cardigan I'm going to have to give a try.

    1. That's too funny! I don't know what took me so long to think to ask blogger friends about this. I guess I just figured everyone else had their picture situation figured out. And good luck with the Amazon cardigan! I've had lots of great luck there. Hits and misses like anywhere else, but the hits make it worth it!

  6. Photography is overwhelming and I more often than not default to keeping the camera on automatic. Your photos look great! An oatmeal cardi is a staple for me too and I'm loving it styled with your burgundy cami!

    1. Thanks Jill! So far it's "automatic" for me too because the other settings don't seem to cooperate with what I want! But hopefully I'll get there!

  9. Great color combination for fall! I really like the pretty shade of your cami.
Learning your camera and how to use it properly can be very frustrating. I enrolled in Shoot Fly Shoot and it really helped me get the basics down. I take all of my own blog photos with a remote and tripod and enjoy the flexibility it brings.

  10. How have I never thought about watching YouTube for photography?? Hello! I watch it for makeup tutorials, may as well brush up on how to use a camera Lol! You looked so cute! I actually did recreate this look on Saturday, I just forgot to take an insta story of it. Love that cami so much! The colors here are perfect. I'm happy you liked these because I was so worried you'd hate our photo shoot! We can only improve from here :)

    1. Aw, if I hated the photos (which I didn't or I wouldn't put them here! LOL!0 it wouldn't be your fault by any means! It's on me for not knowing how to use the camera and not knowing how to pose and look normal. :)

  11. I have two neutral cardigans and they get so much wear! I am working on building my boyfriend cardigan collection because I reach from them time and time again! Great idea about watching YouTube videos for photography too! I need to try that!

  14. I love the color of this cami and think I need one of those cardigans. The photography definitely gets easier with practice. I'm no expert, but I think I've learned enough to be dangerous. I found A Southern Drawl's Photography series helpful: http://www.asoutherndrawl.com/category/photography. It is older, but the basics of photography don't change. I hope your week is going well!

  16. Yay for blates! Love the color of that cami, and of course the pics! Blog photography is hands down the trickiest part of the whole process, so it's huge when you can have a day out with another blogger who understands the process and has an eye for it <3

  17. I almost always shoot my own photos without a remote or tripod for that matter, just on auto. This outfit is so chic with a slight edge. I need a pretty burgundy camisole for Fall, Gina. Always a pleasure stopping by here. =)

Welcome by and share your awesome style with my new linkup this week, which goes live every Thursday. =) Thanks and enjoy the weekend!!
