Summer Favorites and Modest Alternates Part 1

|
It's the first official day of summer, and the weather around here has been sure to leave no doubt about that! With the heat lately I've been wearing my usual summer staples of shorts, tank tops, and camis because I have a casual, stay-at-home mom lifestyle that allows me to do that. But in thinking of the majority of my friends and family members in real life, what I wear is only realistic for them on the weekend, or not at all if they prefer more conservative styles for various reasons. So today I wanted to try something new-ish and share some alternative options to pieces I've been loving lately. I specifically tried to choose more modest pieces that fully cover the shoulders and the cleavage, and they can be worn with a regular bra (no strapless!).  Oh, and they needed to be under $35 since I don't really like to pay more than that for tops myself!

These are some of my recent favorite tops, and as you can tell I've been trying a lot of the current trends in top styles this summer (e.g, cold shoulders, off-the-shoulder, and peplum details). I'm sharing three alternates below for each one of these. They either have a pretty similar look or are just an alternate item with a similar detail that could be styled the same way.

Blue Cold Shoulder Top:
Top: c/o SheIn | Necklace: Stella & Dot (Similar, Gift) | Shorts: Target (Similar) | Sandals: Target | Bag: Sole Society

Alternates:

One $15 | Two $27 | Three $22

Peplum Cami

Alternates:
One $35 | Two $10 | Three $18

One Shoulder Top:
Top: Abercrombie | Shorts: Target (Similar) | Shoes: Target | Bag: c/o Charming Charlie | Necklace: Pictures on Gold (Gift) | Ring: Stella & Dot

Well this was definitely an eye-opening experience for me so I hope it was helpful to some of you! It ended up being more difficult than I expected to find similar pieces with more coverage than average given the current trends and season. On Friday I will share Part Two of this theme with three more pieces I'm loving this summer along with their "more coverage" counterparts so stay tuned! 1. Being a Catholic in a Muslim country, I was surrounded by women who dressed modestly for the outside world but behaved incredibly wantonly which was in direct contradiction with the overall concept of modest dressing. So my resentment for the term "modest dressing" knew no bounds :) now, a grown woman, and having seen variations of how modest dressing can be interpreted, I value it for what it is - an alternate way for women to outfit themselves.

  5. I love that pink peplum cami! It looks like such an easy item to wear because it's dressy on its own but also easy to wear casually!

  8. Such cute summer tops. I had no idea it was the first day of summer. We've been enjoying cooler weather here in Wisconsin.

  9. This is great Gina! Love seeing the more modest versions of your fun Summer tops. I think a lot of women struggle to find the right balance. I actually hate showing cleavage but as I get more comfortable with my body, I'm finding that sometimes showing a little skin feels good! Especially when it's oh you know, 105 in Temecula! Eek!

  10. I tend to dress more modestly just for ease and wearing a regular bra, but I like short sleeve options too because then I don't feel so chilly when I am running errands in the cold air conditioned stores! These are all very cute alternatives!

  11. Great series! In all honesty I think I like your "less coverage" original outfit choices the best but understand how they aren't practical for everyone in all situations. I prefer more coverage for many reasons but you certainly are rocking the cold shoulder, one shoulder, etc looks you have shown here (and in general with summer weather). It is a fun and insightful exercise to recreate outfits using similar, but different pieces. Keep it up!

  12. Love how simple your outfits look but they're sophisticated at the same time. This is definitely what they mean about less is more.
