Outfits on the Daily + Favorites 8/12/16

|
It's been a fun week of Olympics watching with the family almost every night, but I have to say this is my first time watching the Olympics where absolutely every event I was planning to watch has been spoiled for me by news or social media! Even when I try to avoid it, an event result will be randomly posted somewhere unexpected. It's taken a bit of fun and excitement out of watching the broadcast at night, but it's not the end of the world and overall the Games have been entertaining and inspiring. But enough chat about that, on with the Friday show here of outfits and recent favorites.

Express Jeans on Sale for $39.90:
Labor Day weekend is coming up, which usually means a big sale at Express. I checked my post from last year, and in 2015 their sale was 40% off Tops, Jeans and Dresses only (not storewide). Definitely something to keep in mind if there's an item on your wishlist there! That said, if you have a pair of jeans on your wishlist, this weekend all jeans are $39.90, which is closer to 50% off for most of their jeans, so it's actually better to buy them now than to wait for Labor Day.

All of my favorite jeans are from Express, so I rounded up four of my personal favorites that have a good selection of sizes currently in stock to share with anyone looking for a tried-and-true favorite recommendation:

Outfit Details: (Linking to currently available items only)

One:
Top: Express | Jeans: Express | Shoes: Forever 21 | Necklace: Express

Two:
Top: Express | Jeans: Express | Sandals: Nordstrom | Bag: c/o Danielle Nicole

Three:
Jacket: Maurices | Tee: Express | Bralette: Forever 21 | Jeans: Express | Boots: Amazon

Four:
Tee: Nordstrom | Jeans: Express | Shoes: Vince Camuto | Bag: Amazon | Necklace: Express

As for me, I can't say I need any more jeans, but the price is tempting and I've been very curious about the pull-on jean leggings thanks to Carylee. She has a pair (worn here) and swears they are amazing: the comfort of leggings but the look of jeans. There are three options currently in stock:

I don't plan to wear them like the models here where you can see that they have an elastic waistband! I'd make sure to cover that part, but I'm sure they did it so we can see that they are in fact pull-on jeans. If I do take the plunge on these I'll keep you posted on how they work out!

Fitness Favorites:
Over the past few weeks I shared my list of favorite home workout DVDs. If you missed it, here's a quick reference:

Weight Training Workouts: Here
Cardio Workouts: Here
Yoga + Stretching Workouts: Here

If you read those posts you may have noticed the vast majority of my favorites are Cathe Friedrich workouts. This week Cathe announced that she's working on her newest series, Strong and Sweaty for release in late Fall:

Right now you can pre-order the series and get the set for about $10 per DVD (digital versions are available as well). Then once the pre-order ends, her DVDs usually sell for about $20 each. I passed on Cathe's last new series (Intermediate Conditioning Extreme/ICE) because it was intermediate, but this one is billed as Advanced so I am all over it!

For those interested here are the Workout Descriptions, and here's the link to Pre-Order. (And to be clear there are no kickbacks to me for sharing this. I am not affiliated with Cathe in any way, nor are any of the pre-order links affiliate links. I'm simply sharing because I know a few of you are Cathe fans like myself and want to pass along the opportunity for a good deal on her workouts!)

And that's all for today, folks! One more reminder to enter the Tory Burch + MacBook Air Giveaway and then it's off to another weekend of, "Let's make the most of summer before it's gone!" Hope you have a great weekend and I'll see you back next week!

  5. I could definitely use a new pair of jeans since the Paige during the nsale didn't work out! But I'm losing ( or trying to ) lose weight so I'm not sure if I should buy any more until I do! Love your outfits so much, especially the dress! It's so cute!

  6. i'm sorry events and whatnot have been spoiled for you, i have definitely not been as into it as i thought i would be because of that as well, which sucks.
oh the jeans are so cheap! i am trying not to shop right now but i really do need a new pair of black jeans.... i love the look of the pull on jeggings (but yeah that elastic waist should not be visible in real life lol).
the dress looks so pretty on you :)

  7. First of all, you look fabulous in a dress and should wear more of them. I'll admit I'm one of those people who are not watching the Olympics and relying on social media to tell me when we win, but I've from others that they're getting a little tired of Yahoo alerts spoiling the action. I'm going to have to try those pull-on jeggings. I went back and forth on the Express denim leggings, but these intrigue me. Old Navy had some a couple of years ago that I bought and then donated pretty quickly, but the idea of them makes me not want to give up. I love pull on jeggings for my daughter, that's for sure. And ooo, new Cathe workout. I haven't bought anything new Cathe in a while.

    1. I'm so glad to hear that Laura! I really think their jeans can't be beat for the price (on sale, at least!) so I'm glad they worked out for you. I know everyone has different body types so I'm sure not everyone will love them, but it's nice to hear when they work for someone who is new to them!

  10. Thanks again for the jeans roundup. That really helped me last time you did it (and I got 2 pairs that worked well)! Cute dress pictured above; I have a similar one in rayon, too, and it's a GREAT choice in the humidity. It's almost cool to the touch in this weather--perfect!

  13. So I did end up ordering two pairs of jeans. Not the pull on kind which makes me sad, but we will see how the other two work out! I really do love that dress on you! A dress AND a print! Shut up! I almost got the baby doll cami in that print! It's a good one!

  14. Love the outfits, as usual :)

I'm about to preorder the new Cathe workouts. Not sure I want the cardio workouts, but love the descriptions of the weight workouts. I love the ICE workouts - I think with the addition of the blizzard blasts, they are a lot harder than intermediate! The only ones I'm not sure you would like would be the Chiseled Upper Body, and the Mat and Glute workouts - they are the most intermediate of the bunch, although with the added chapter/bonuses/muscle meltdowns, they can pack quite a punch!

I'm on my third week of doing the RWH weight workouts - how many weeks would you stick with them to see results? I'm just doing the upper body weight workouts, plus the leg workout and adding in walking/yoga/barre on my own.

    1. Hey Margaret! Thanks for the feedback on the ICE workouts! I'll definitely take another look at them if I feel the need to add to something new to the mix.

As for RWH...I personally do it for maintenance rather than to see results. I'm not sure how to be most helpful here - I think it depends a bit on what kind of results you want. Weight loss? Greater definition? For me with weight training I can usually see something measurable (either muscle loss, growth or maintenance) in about 4-6 weeks. If it's not what you wanted, I would go one more week at the most before starting to make changes. Depending on the results you want that would mean something where you lift heavier or possibly changes to your diet. *Take all that with a grain of salt because my only qualifications are experimenting on my own body!*

  15. I've been on a denim kick myself, of late, but I do not have a grey one. And, as clearly evidenced from your picture, Gina, a grey pair is quite necessary :)
