Coffee Date with Liz of Sprinkles & Sequins

Every blogger has a story, and my nosy side always wants to find out what it is! Luckily I have my Coffee Date series to use as an excuse to get to know people better. This month I asked Liz of Sprinkles and Sequins to be my date. I have followed her blog and enjoyed her polished casual style for quite awhile (and she does dressy, too!), but I didn't know much else about her so I was happy when she agreed to a virtual coffee date with me.

Meet Liz:
Original Posts: One / Two / Three /Four

I host all of my virtual coffee dates at Starbucks, so what will you be drinking today?
Rachel Bilson / Starbucks / Kim Kardashian

Liz: I don't drink Starbucks, but when I did (which wasn't very often), I would get an Iced Vanilla Frappuccino or an Iced Passion tea with extra raspberry syrup.

Okay, well I'm glad you made an exception for today! So let's get to the real questions. I know absolutely nothing about you except that we both shop at Express.  Tell me a little about yourself: where did you grow up, where do you live now, what do you do for a living?
Liz: I was born in and have lived in the same house in the Northeast my entire life! I'm trying to move out but rent is so high! I work as a dietitian, and am going for my Masters in Nutrition.

I'm impressed that you are managing school, job and a blog! If you have any free time left after that, how do you like to spend it?

Liz: I love dancing, cooking, baking, hanging out, exploring, organizing, and cleaning!

Tell me more about your dance background, that sounds fun!
Liz: I danced for about 15 years- so basically all through elementary school, junior high, and high school. I quit in college because I didn't have time!

Do you ever have time to just sit back and watch TV?
Liz: Currently on my DVR is Survivor, Vampire Diaries, and Catfish (when it comes back- February 25- cant wait!!). I haven't watched live TV in ages!

It sounds like you have a well-rounded life outside of your blog, but let's talk blogging anyway. How long have you been blogging and what’s been the biggest surprise about it for you?
Some early outfit posts: One / Two

Liz: I have been blogging since March of 2013, so almost two years now! When I first started, I blogged every single day! But now that I'm working full time and still going to school for my Masters, it's been difficult to get three posts out per week while still maintaining a social life. That has probably been the biggest surprise to me. I do love blogging, and that it makes me put effort into what I wear everyday!

What advice would you give to someone just getting started in blogging or thinking about starting a blog?
Liz:  Make sure you have TIME! As much as I love the creative outlet that blogging allows me to have, sometimes you just need a chance to recharge and rest, and once you come back, the creative juices will flow! Also, stay true to yourself and your individual style!

Do you have any blogging tricks you've learned along the way?
Liz: One tip that I was super excited about was making my blog into an App! Well, not an actual App store App, but an icon on my iPhone's home screen... I wrote about it here.

Let's talk fashion: what are your top two favorite items in your wardrobe right now?
Original Posts: One / Two / Three / Four

Liz: Number one would have to be my BlankNYC pleather jacket. If you've been following along for a while, you've certainly seen a lot of it. My second favorite would have to be my J.Crew Factory turtleneck- I have been constantly wearing that thing!

Nails are one of my favorite fashion "accessories," so I like to know everyone's favorite nail color of the moment. What are you loving right now?

Liz: My friend got me my first Zoya nail polish for Christmas, and I've been obsessed! It's called Casey and it's the perfect deep purple! With Valentine's Day mere days away, Essie's Fishnet Stockings is awesome!

I'm also big on following celebrity fashion trends, so who would you list as your celebrity style inspirations?

Liz: I love Lauren Conrad, and Stacy London! I used to watch What Not to Wear just to see what Stacy had on! I love her edgy vibe!

Gina: Yet another coincidence! I recently did posts about each of these ladies because I also love their style. I shared my top lessons from Stacy London here, and a lot about Lauren's Aquarius style here.

Do you read any fashion magazines for inspiration?

Liz: People StyleWatch!

Gina: Same here! It's basically the only one that features products I can afford! Plus I love analyzing their "What's In vs. What's Out" Section (e.g. here and here).

Last but not least, I'm kind of into Fashion + Astrology, so apologies for the cliché pick-up line, but what's your sign, baby?

Liz: My birthday is February 23, so I'm a Pisces.

Gina: Oh! That's right around the corner! Happy early birthday! Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac and the only one I haven't profiled yet, but that will change next week we get into Pisces season. I can definitely see your style falling in line with the casual style of your sign mates like Jessica Biel and Olivia Palermo.
