The BSC and a Giveaway

|
When Kristen shared her list of 10 Books that Changed Her Life, I was surprised to see that one of  my childhood/tween favorites made her list: The Baby-Sitters Club series. It sounds serious to call them life changing, but her reasoning was valid: it was the first series that really got her to fall in love with books. My experience with the BSC series was similar, and after her post, nostalgia ensued and a collaboration idea was born as we exchanged memories.

Kristen and I each took this quiz to find out which BSC member best represents us. When I read the books, I always felt like I was a Dawn-Stacey hybrid. According to my test results, I'm 40% Dawn Schafer, and we do have a few things in common like hair color, a California-connection, and we're both Aquarians. So why not see if I can create some Dawn Schafer-inspired outfits?

First up, I attempted Dawn's denim on denim from book #5. Personally, I think chambray paired with black is a little more foolproof, so I went that route. I also switched out Dawn's socks and loafers (because I do have some self respect) for my black Converse, and voila, meet Dawn Schafer 2015:
Chambray Shirt: J Crew Factory / Black Jeans: Express (Similar) / Converse: Nordstrom

I think I stopped reading the BSC series somewhere between book 25-30, so I haven't read this next book to know for sure, but I'm guessing Dawn's jacket in this picture belongs to her "older" boyfriend. Well, lucky for her it put her fashionably ahead of her time since varsity jackets are enjoying a moment now.
Jacket: Express (Similar) Tee: Old Navy / Jeans: Nordstrom / Converse: Nordstrom

When Kristen took the quiz, she found out she was most like Mary Anne Spier. Obviously these results are 100% accurate from a fashion perspective because they both wear blue striped sweaters:

And yes, that's the Striped London Sweater Kristen's wearing. I may have persuaded her to make that purchase but...#sorrynotsorry because she loves it and it looks great on her. I love it in gray and blue even when I don't want to dress like a baby-sitter (so....always):
Striped London Sweater worn with Leggings: Express / Burgundy Booties: Old Navy / Peep Toe Booties: Forever 21 / Silver Pendant: Stella & Dot / Gold Necklace: CCO

By the way, according to my calculations the original BSC members would be turning 42 this year. wouldn't it be fun to have a "where are they now" book? On Wednesday I'll be sharing outfits for the remaining original members (Kristy, Claudia and Stacey), but I had to save some room today for one more thing...

  9. LOL Omg I am totally Mary-Anne with the matching striped sweater!! I just need a cute ribbon in my hair ;)
I think I read all the way up to book 100 and I distinctly remember the bloody covers never matched the stupid story, so I doubt Dawn even wore a varsity jacket, you know? But on the cover she did, so... yep.
I laughed so hard my tea came out of my nose at: because I do have some self respect. LOL!!
I love this post so much girl!

  11. Holy crap- 42??! That was a time check for me! And I love how the chambray has been relevant for as long as we could dress ourselves. Except there was a good decade when I didn't wear them. Sigh. All that time lost! And now I gotta take the quiz!! Http://morepiecesofme.com

  15. I never read these, and will look into getting these for my daughter, who loves to read. I was a strange girl growing up because all the books I read was by R.L Stines. When I got older though I stop reading horror books and started reading everything.

Cute remake of these outfit. You added a nice modern twist to this outfits.

  19. I used to LOOOOVE the BSC books! My gosh... so many memories of staying up late reading those when I was little. Then I remember the tv show came out, but it just wasn't as good as the books of course.

Loving that striped London sweater, I almost picked it up last week but thought it'd be too warm here in FL. Maybe I was wrong!

  20. Gina I was so EXCITED to see this post as The Baby Sitters Club has definitely made its mark in my tween/teenage years!! I remember eating up the books, as far as reading one a day at one point. Loved they progressed over the years, got boyfriends etc. :-)) What a cool post idea!! You do have the Dawn look for sure, and love how you styled the casual/sportsy outfit inspired by her. I need to find and take that test now to figure out my BSC character match. :) Have a wonderful week, XOXO, Elif

  24. So I've read your blog for months now, and I think I've commented maybe like once ever, if even that, because I always read from Feedly on my ipad and it's just such a pain to comment via ipad. ANYWAYS. Today I decided to read from my computer so I could actually comment and lo and behold- best post ever. I LOVED the Babysitter's Club. Seriously, I idolized these girls. I wanted to be them so bad! And I'm pretty sure I thought Dawn with the coolest. I'm taking this quiz right now... ok done. The results won't load. Lame. I'll check later, haha. This is the longest comment ever, but I just also wanted to say that even though I'm a slacker on commenting, I love your blog and I definitely get so much style inspiration from it! Thanks!
