Outfits Take the Cake

|
Every now and then, I use Pinterest for something other than re-creating outfits. Most recently I've made some Pin-Spired cakes, and all the browsing of cakes gave me the idea to try something a little different with this month's Pin-Spired Challenge. I've said that copying outfits is a piece of cake, so this month I'm taking it more literally with cake-inspired outfits:

The actual Pin-spired cakes I made are not nearly as fashionable as the ones I like to look at, but my business manager advised me that I can't just say I made some Pin-spired cakes without showing them. So here are my "easiest-looking option I can find because it's always harder than it looks" Minecraft Pin-spired cakes:

And after reviewing some recent outfits, I think it's possible that I've been dressing a little like my own cakes too:
Left: Portofino Shirt: Express / Shorts: J. Crew / Sandals:  Vince Camuto / Necklace: Old Navy / Bracelet: Express

Middle: Baroque Tiered Lace Tank: Express / Shorts: J. Crew / Sandals: Macy's / Bracelet: Express

Right: Tee: Express / Jean Shorts: Target/ Sandals: Sam Edelman Ginger / Necklace: Old Navy / Bracelets: Nordstrom

My favorite is the navy striped with the pink bow and your corresponding outfit! So fun! You look great in each outfit! Love the mine craft cakes! Seems that you are talented in many ways my friend!

  10. Such a cute idea!!! I regularly participate in a Style Imitating Art challenge -- outfits inspired by artworks -- so why not cakes?! My fave is the coral and black stripes one. :)

  12. These cakes look delicious. This is such a fun idea! I really like the color inspiration you took from these cakes. Your Pinterest inspired cakes are also great. I'm not a good enough baker to attempt some these cakes you've shown.

P.S. I'm also wearing my first Express item that you inspired me to buy on the blog today! I'm sensing this is going to be a slippery slope...

  16. You need to be on Instagram, lady! I can't remember if you were a fan of the Bachelor or not... but Catherine Guidici (now Lowe) always posts these pictures where she takes two photos and "meshes" them together. For example, she will post an image and half of it will be an ocean and the other half will be an outfit inspired by those colors. This reminds me of it, haha!

  17. Gina, you take the cake for most original posts! Someone had to say it ;-) . It just goes to prove that inspiration is everywhere. I love the last two pinspirations in particular. And I'm impressed with just the fact that you even attempted to bake a pinspired cake. It came out pretty awesome. ~Cynthia

  20. Your post ideas are so clever! That chocolate mint cupcake inspiration is my favorite but is it because I'm partial to chocolate? Your cakes turned out really good. I have tried to decorate cakes in the past and it is so much harder than it looks. I can never get the right consistency with the frosting.

    1. YES - it's definitely harder than it looks! And I don't know how to use fondant (or I've never tried), so that really limits my options!

  24. As usual I love your post, super creative, and those cakes came out great. I love pinterest, it's super helpful, but all those perfect DIY's are always so hard to imitate, when I have tried mine don't even look half as cute as yours came out.
