Weather or Not

|
In the past two weeks, Spring weather has meant high temperatures of anywhere from upper 60s to low 100s for me. I know I'm not the only one experiencing weather whiplash from day to day and double-checking the morning forecast before I get dressed. Do I need shorts or pants, shoes or sandals, etc.?

Naturally, there's an App for that. Just for fun I snooped the weather in various cities on Daily Dress Me to make a compilation of their recommended outfits for temperatures from 61° F - 104° F. (Or 16° C - 40° C for everyone outside the USA.) Their images come from Forever 21, so if you're looking to shop for any of these pieces that's probably the place to go.

On the top left of each image is the high temperature for the day, on the top right is the low:

Even if they aren't my personal style, for the most part I think I'd be comfortable temperature-wise in these outfits. A few of them...I'm not so sure. A blazer and cargo pants when it's 102? Maybe they're assuming I'll be indoors with the A/C set to 65. Even 82 and 88 seem like they should be switched.

Obviously a lot comes down to personal preference, so for comparison I arranged some of my own recent outfits by temperature. From left to right are examples of what I wore for weather in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s...all within the last month!

  1. I am constantly checking the weather each morning because I honestly don't know what the temperature will be like. This has been an odd month for us! You did a great job styling outfits for each temperature! You look great in the sea foam green color!

Hope you had a nice weekend!

  2. Cute post, Gina! The weather has been pretty crazy lately where I live too. You did a fabulous styling job. I love those striped shorts on you. Do they run true to size? I wanted to try them on last week but the store that I went to didn't have my size. Happy Monday!

    1. Thank you Sydney! They run true to size but slightly big. I'd mainly recommend getting your normal size, but if you're kind of between two sizes try the smaller of the two. (That was my experience, anyway!)

  7. It's been so hard to dress right for the weather lately! At least where I live, it's been freezing in the mornings and then it warms up in the afternoon. And the weather forecast is not always right. Anyway, I'm loving the mint in your outfits. I'm gonna have to check out those cute mint shorts at Express.

    1. Just to be clear, the mint shorts are from J. Crew. They're from last summer, and the Factory version I linked to seems to be a closer color match that what regular J Crew is offering this year!

  8. We haven't quite hit 100 yet but last Monday for example was deathly hot and humid- pushing 90. The next night we had our baseball game and it was fuhreezing and in the 50s! So I can relate for sure.
I love the mint and white combos the best because they make me happy! And stop flaunting the striped shorts in front of me!! Http://morepiecesofme.com

  11. That is such a cool app! I will definitely check it out although it does seem like it's a little crazy!!! Love your outfits above! They are perfect for each tempeture! Maybe you should take over that app! It has the word "daily" in it so it can be a smooth transition!

  12. I love Daily Dress Me! It helps me at least figure out what the weather will be like and what types of layers to wear! Love your mint pieces - the blouse and shorts are gorgeous!

  13. I'm perplexed by the leopard romper at 93/66. I get cold easily and this wouldn't work. We are getting ready to move North again and I'm not looking forward to the crazy bipolar weather. There are those striped shorts. I really don't need any more shorts, but if I'm near an Express, I may need to get these......Love the sea foam color too. I have been seeing it with citrus yellow and want to try this combo.

    1. Memorial Day sales are right around the corner...maybe a good time to try a few of those things! And yeah...the leopard romper. I was like...maybe it's for 93 degrees when you're in da club. Or just for someone much younger than me. :)

I love the pieces you put together for the changing weather, especially those striped shorts! I'm hoping they will still be available after my May shopping ban.

  28. Interesting...I signed up for another service that would send you outfit ideas based on the temperature...I loved the idea, but I rarely (extremely rarely) liked any of the outfits. I think I'd feel the same way with this one, but that's probably bc they do more casual vs. work outfits. I like your outfits though..esp the striped shorts (I know I say that all the time...I should probably just buy them) :)

Next time I am at the States and near an Express store, I will get my hands on as many Portofino Shirts as I can afford. All the Shorts are adorable too. =)
