Up to Date

One of my favorite quotes from the movie Miss Congeniality is this one:

I missed the boat on a Perfect Date post since it's already May 5 today, but I thought I'd share my Miss Congeniality-inspired, top three trends that are the most date appropriate (of the calendar variety, that is), along with a few shopping options for each one, mainly from Express.

1. Floral

You know the saying...April showers bring May flowers! So if you want your outfit to say "Hey, it's MAY"...floral print is my top choice.

Shopping Options:

Rose Print  Skort  / Floral Print Portofino Shirt /  Embellished Floral Print Tank / Floral Print Cover-Up

Wear it like...Lauren Conrad:

2. Baseball

Technically baseball is still America's favorite pasttime (sorry football fans, see here), and since baseball season is well underway, May 5 is a great time to wear the trend and fit right in.

Shopping Options:
Baseball tees

Space Dyed Baseball TeeSlub Knit Short Sleeve Baseball Tee / Lace Sleeve Baseball Tee /Space Dyed Baseball Tee

Wear it like....Ashley Greene:

3. Rompers

I'll be honest: it was another case of working backwards to fit this item into the list. I didn't want a spring trend list without them because their popularity seems to be surging, but I wasn't really sure how they relate to May 5. Here are some possibilities:

1. Lots of animals give birth in the spring, which leads to baby animals romping around in May.
2. It's Cinco de Mayo, so there will be lot of romping going on after a few margaritas tonight.

Choose your favorite option or feel free to suggest another reason why rompers are so May 5!

Shopping Options:
Express rompers

Ruffled Zip Front Romper / Sleeveless Portofino Romper / Striped Strapless RomperPolka Dot Portofino Romper

Wear it like...Kate Hudson:

So how many up-to-date trends have you tried so far?  As for me, I'm 0 for 3 and feeling a little behind the times. But I'm still shopping for the perfect piece in these categories, and I'm thinking maybe I just buy a floral print romper and wear it with a baseball cap to nail all three trends at once!

  4. I have not made it to Express yet since my shopping ban was lifted, which is probably a good thing cause I want that floral portofino. Lauren's outfit is soooo cute. In other news they just opened an Express factory store by me and of course I thought of you :) I am totally freaking out over the portofino rompers

  8. Hahah I love your justification for Rompers! I ended up buying the one I said I would in your post recently.(You have it above in purple.) Although I loved the blue, I chose black since it is my first romper and I want to be sure I can wear it a lot! Hope you had a good weekend!

  10. Oh the romper. I don't know if I can pull it off. I'm worried that my legs are too short and I have a long torso but maybe I can find one that works. I absolutely love Lauren Conrad's outfit. And you keep showing those peep toe booties so now I have convince myself I need a pair....

  18. Pretty ideas! I love the rompers. I'm not sold that my body will look great in one, but I need to give some a try! I love how easy they look.

  19. I'm 2 for 3! The rompers don't fit my body type because of my long torso. Maybe I find one made for tall women.

  23. So first, the quote made me think of a Family Feud question the other day:
-Name something that's hard for people to say (i.e. I'm sorry, I love you, It's my fault, etc)
The contestant buzzed in and yelled "Peter piper picked a pack of pickled pepperssss!"
    Hahaa! Kills me
Second of all - I'm warming up to rompers. I bought a couple for Jamaica, and they were actually quite comfy, though I was never really in the "bathroom" situation. I really love Kate Hudson's look though!!
And yay - can't wait to wear my new floral portofino!!

    1. Yeah, I'm super worried about the bathroom issue with rompers...I think when/if I get one it will be limited to beach/pool attire where you mainly just take it off and leave it off.

  24. I always love your humor!! I look forward to what spin you'll put on your posts next!! Aside from that....I LOVE that polka dot romper!!! I think I may need that! I also love wearing red and purple together...something very rich about the combo. I'm thinking I need a baseball shirt...loving the way they are styled. I have the floral for spring, so that's good, but I really like pairing it with the scuba pants! Will do for sure! Thanks for all the ideas...my husband probably won't thank you tho (cha ching!)

  25. I think rompers are so cute - but pretty sure I'll never wear them. Florals on the other hand - I can't get enough! Especially those with white or cream backgrounds.

    1. I can definitely picture you wearing soft and feminine florals. :) I'm a new convert to liking the romper trend myself so I understand the hesitation!

  26. Hahaha..I've seen Ms. Congeniality several times, but never got that joke. :) Kate Hudson looks awesome in that purple romper...I'm kinda mad at her for being so cute. So far I've done none of your trends either...as a petite, I'm wary of florals. I feel like baseball tees make shoulders look bigger. I would love a romper, but haven't found a good fit yet. Oh well, we'll keep working at it...

    1. Exactly...I feel like it's going to be a lot of work to find the exact right romper. Someday I'll get unlazy enough to try a bunch on. :)
