Animal Instinct

|
I'm not sure how the fashion powers-that-be decided to call black and white a "trend" for spring and summer, but I keep seeing reports on this, like these articles from Refinery 29, Vogue, Glamour, and In Style. I'm going to take a stand and disagree with these articles because for me, black and white is not a trend. It's forever. It's animal instinct.

Aside from sharing my favorite color combo with some of the coolest animals, I also share it with some of my favorite stylish celebrities:

When I wanted ideas for styling a white blazer recently, a basic black tank came up again and again on Pinterest:

Blazer: H&M / Tank: Target / Necklace: Express / Bracelet: Express / Belt: AE (Similar) Jeans: Nordstrom / Sandals: Forever 21

I loved Alison's pairing of her black and white tee with crisp white pants and a fedora, so I did a summer-ized version of her look on a recent trip:

Tank: Target / Shorts: Old Navy (Current) / Sandals: Sam Edelman Ginger (Dillard's and Amazon have a few sizes each) / Fedora: Target (In stores) / Necklace: Forever 21 / Bracelet: Express

Last but not least, I did a little hybrid Pin-spiration. Erica has my exact striped shorts from Express and I loved her pairing with the red sandals, but opted for a little more black like the second inspiration photo:

Blouse: Express ( in Black) / ShortsExpress / Necklace: Target (Similar) Bracelet: Express / Sandals: Nordstrom /

I honestly didn't plan to do a black and white theme in advance this month. I just reviewed some of my outfit photos from the month and the theme presented itself, which could probably happen every month if I looked for it! And if nothing else, I finally have my answer narrowed down to four options for the next time I get that interview question about "What animal would you be?"

  7. You can never go wrong with black and white! Love all your inspiration photos. I've considered buying those F21 sandals because I have worn my Sam Edelman ones in tan sooo much. Do you like them? Thanks for linking up! It was fun to co-host today.

    1. I love the F21 sandals! They are really comfortable (with a ball of foot pad...which I always use for any kind of heel) and very, very easy to walk in. They're like flats to me. I doubt that the quality is amazing since they are Forever 21, but good enough for me considering the price. I have them in both colors- you can see the nude version in this post:

  14. I LOVE both of your outfits. Funny that one includes the white blazer. I was just organizing my closet (we're getting ready to sell the house) and I saw the white blazer I just had to have this past spring. I was thinking that I need to wear that more but it's just too hot right now in Florida. I'm sure I'll use it more when we move to Ohio. I also love your "incognito" shorts picture. I have that tank but opposite with white background and black stripes. Have a great weekend!

    1. Hee hee, I really don' t even have to try to be incognito. The camera just happens to block my face if I want the best angle. And of course, since I have no other photography skills to speak of, at least I need a good angle!

  15. Express is my favorite store in the whole wide world, so it goes without saying that I love your blog. I came it across it a few days ago and am so glad I did. Everything you post is great fashion inspiration but is unlike the typical "fashion blogs" where everything costs an arm and a leg. You feature awesome bloggers that I feel I can relate to. Looking forward to more posts!
